NFL suspends LaVon Brazill four gamesPosted by Josh Alper on June 24, 2013, 4:11 PM EDT

It’s been a busy day for suspensions of wide receivers who violated the NFL’s Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

The NFL announced that Colts wide receiver LaVon Brazill has been suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season. Brazill will be allowed to take part in training camp and preseason games before starting the suspension, which will end after the Colts play the Jaguars on September 29.

Brazill, a sixth-round pick in 2012, caught 11 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown during his rookie season. He was slated for a reserve role behind Reggie Wayne and Darrius Heyward-Bey this year, which will stretch the Colts’ depth in the first month of the season.

It shouldn’t stretch it to the point that the Colts offense really suffers, however. They have T.Y. Hilton as a third receiver and they’ll make good use of tight ends Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener as well as newly signed running back Ahmad Bradshaw to make up for anything they might lose with Brazill out of the lineup.

Word of Brazill’s suspension comes on the heels of the news that Giants wide receiver Brandon Collins also earned a four-game suspension for running afoul of the substance-abuse policy.

The Indianapolis Star reports Colts WR LaVon Brazill's four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy was for testing positive for marijuana.
There are worse things to test positive for, but you have to fail multiple tests to get a four-game ban. Columnist Bob Kravitz believes the immaturity should cost Brazill his roster spot. Brazill's suspension is unlikely to cost him his spot in and of itself, but he'll have no room for error in camp. He's off the redraft-league radar.

Suspended Colts WR LaVon Brazill admitted he has to decide between "money or marijuana."
Brazill was slapped with a four-game ban for multiple violations of the league's substance-abuse policy. He seems to understand he's on his last chance while competing for the No. 4 wideout job at camp.

I'm calling it now, Brazill will be cut. Maybe I missed news of an injury, but he was not dressed today at camp. Griff Whalen is better suited for the WCO.
