Comatose Sleepers: The Wide Receiver Edition (1 Viewer)

I tried to lobby for a staff position however there wasn't much interest. (and the crowd goes awww)
Sorry pal, the name just doesn't have enough oomph. It helps if it sounds like some weird food dish."Yes waiter, I'll have a Tefertiller salad followed by the Rudnicki pasta in Pasquino sauce. Appetizer? Oh, the Bloom'n onions of course!"
I couldn't agree more....Yours TrulySteven Manzerotti

Guys I'm keeping an eye on... Some of these guys were talked up in past pre-seasons/training camp too.Tennessee Titans - Biren Ealy. Had 3 catches for 50 yards vs. Oakland.Houston Texans - David Anderson. 3 catches for 61 yards (long of 43) vs. New Orleans.Minnesota Vikings - Martin Nance. 3 catches for 74 yards and 1 TD vs. Baltimore.Baltimore Ravens - Ernie Wheelwright. Had 5 catches but only 37 yards.Washington Redskins - Billy McMullen. 3 catches for 53 yards and a long of 37 (Happened on the winning TD drive).
Applicably updated!

McMullen will likely be cut - I believe he was just mopping up in the second half.

Ah! All fixed, thank you.

Rashied Davis, Antonio Bryant, Eddie Royal, Jordan Kent
Rashied Davis, Antonio Bryant, Eddie Royal, Jordan Kent
I gotta hunch about Bryant as well...
So does Jon Gruden from what I heard during the beginning of the Pats/Bucs pre-season game. The list is all updated and with a new name!
Well, Bryant just made Jerod Mayo look like a fool with an impressive catch and run.

He has usually been the most talented receiver on every team he has been on. There are clearly questions about maturity, but I was holding him for a long time last year, expecting him to be signed. There was some talk of a lawsuit for a blackballing/illegal suspension from the league. In my mind I think Gruden will realize his talent and look past his history. I don't see why he couldn't end up a top 20 receiver considering Galloway's injury history, or even possibly with Galloway.

Rashied Davis also looks like a clear starter in Chicago. He was injured last night, so did not start, and you can always argue a Wide Receiver nightmare with a bad offense and a bunch of other receivers to choose from Booker, Hester, Bradley, Bennett, Hass, Monk etc. However being at camp, it looked like the coaches had Davis running #1. Most fantasy players will not be real excited with these prospects, but having watched him throughout his career, I would not be surprised with a Bernard Berrian type breakout. Berrian was another coming out of a large group, with a questionable offense.

Antonio Bryant is good one watch. I think he's got immense talent, but he seems to have trouble getting along with others. He's already been shipped out of the top place for reclamation projects in Dallas, but Tampa's a pretty good reclamation project spot too. I'm willing to give them a mulligan on David Boston.

I know it's been covered in some of the rookie threads, but I'll throw in a vote for Adrian Arrington. He looked have good potential as a possession receiver in their first pre-season game and really attacked the ball well in the air. If he can ride out his current injury long enough to make the team, he could battle Meachem for a starting WR spot in a very good offense in the next few years.

Officially added. Good call and well put!

Eddie Royal (DEN) - With Javon Walker’s departure and Brandon Marshall’s suspension, opportunity knocked on Eddie Royal’s door, dragged him out the house and threw him onto the football field. He couldn’t have asked for a better situation. If he can prove that he’s NFL worthy early on then he could end up one of the few rookie WR’s to get a significant amount of playing time his debut year.

Outlook: Although Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall already have a well-established rapport, Royal would offer Cutler a quick, agile slot option. Unless it takes Royal longer then expected to acclimate to things, he should challenge Brandon Stokley for the slot heading into next year.
In Denver, Stokely is entrenched in the slot. Royal is pushing Darrell Jackson for the #2 spot opposite Marshall. And if anybody in your league follows the Broncos, he's definitely not comatose, and probably not even a sleeper.
I thought Shanny has already dubbed him as their starter opposite Marshall.
There was an early depth chart(Royal was backing up Marshall), but is it written in stone? Royal wasn't opposite Marshall he was backing him up and starting if the suspension goes through(according to the depth chart).
FBG has him as a starter and the FBG Blogger has quotes of Shanny saying Royal has earned a spot as a starter. That being said, I can't tell if he means for the preseason or the regular season, but it does site that he has passed Jackson and Colbert. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
One of the Denver papers (Post or RMN, not sure which one I saw it in online) had an article on the non-competition from D-Jack and Colbert. The original thinking was one of the two would start opposite Marshall. Now it looks like Jackson takes over at the Z for the 3 games Brandon misses, then shares time in the slot with Stokley. Royal starts the season as the Y and stays there. Parker might make the team, and they love Russell as a special teamer. Will they carry 6 WRs? Colbert seems like the odd man out.

I think Patriots WR Chad Jackson qualifies since most fair weather fantasy fans have completely forgotten about him. His ADP is beyond round 16, so he's going undrafted in most leagues. This guy could take over the Donte Stallworth role from last year. So that's a low risk high reward WR pick at the end of any draft, if he is able to earn the starting role opposite Randy Moss. Welker is going to be the slot WR, so it could happen.

Cincy drafted Simpson and Caldwell, Palmer summer fluff pieces on Maxwell, and talk of re-signing Henry but...

quietly it seems A Chatman is the 3rd WR

don't know much about him but he is definitely one to watch simply due to Cincy passing attack

You're talking about 2009, correct? Because right now the guy can't line up in the right place or run routes correctly.Awesome talent, but doesn't seem to have the right work ethic to learn the nuances. Maybe he'll change his ways someday.

roscoe parrish and jordy nelson.

everyone in bills camp gushes about him, especially trent edwards, calling him the best route runner on the team and the most explosive... turk schonert has definately said that they are going to make it a prority to get him the ball more this year.. he has a lot of potential to be a wes welker type guy.. and he is undrafted in most leagues.

jordy is battling james jones for the number 3.. but if there is an injury there.. he could be the best of the rookie wrs.

I'm going to have to agree. I follow the Patriots even more obsessively than every other team and he has been a disappointment in the past and has unfortunately been a disappointment this year, too. He needs everything to click and it doesn't look like it may happen this year. In the first game, he caught a screen that could have been broken and ended up with 1 catch for zero yards. He also dropped a pass that he was trying to catch on a slant route that could have netted him big yards. The play summed up his situation thus far rather nicely:He had the talent to get the ball and get some big yardage after the catch. But he juuuuuuuust missed it. He's going to juuuuuuuuust miss it this year because Jabar Gaffney is clearly the better option. He's still a year away and a big if at that since he hasn't really shown to much to the contrary. He's got talent but that will only take you so far in the NFL, especially on a fundamental-driven team like the Patriots.

I like Utecht as the 3rd passing option.

They like Jordy because he is versatile. They move him around as an H back, in the slot, outside. I think it'll be more about production than #3 or 4. They do like Jones though because in close to defenders he owns the ball(has large hands and is very strong) and can get space near the line of scrimmage.
