Combined Rookie Draft Board (1 Viewer)

Jene Bramel

Footballguy
Here is the first version of my rookie draft board for 2011. It includes offensive and defensive prospects split into tiers vertically by position, then compares the tiers side-by-side horizontally (including the approximate time/round I'll consider them in the draft). There's some strategy and player discussion following the draft board.

I've attached the PDF version below, which shows the tiers of the first three rounds a little better than what we're able to do with HTML. It may also be easier to print and use, if you find the board helpful or close to your own thoughts.

Hopefully, I proofread better than last year, when I dropped Toby Gerhart in a cut-and-paste error.

Discussion and suggestions welcome.

ETA: Some have had trouble with the spreadsheet font on the original upload. The second PDF is in Arial and seems to be working for everyone.

Not sure why Gabbert is round 1 and Newton round 2, I assume it's that you don't like Newton, but Gabbert isn't 1st round caliber IMO.

Same, but a round later for Locker/Ponder. Both are 3rds IMO. Hendricks or Quinn up depending on scoring.

I assume DT not required? Tackle heavy?

fantastic job! i love the layout to help visualize where the tiers are.

ps i thought that i was crazy thinking Carter having a good shot at starting in IND in the next year or two.

My extended thoughts, separated by position, come after the spreadsheet. You've gotten the gist of those comments, though, I think. I agree that Gabbert is a borderline first rounder, and noted that I'd take him there only if you aren't enamored with your RB7/RB8/WR5/etc. Locker and Ponder are mid-third round picks on the sheet, so I agree there, too. I didn't mention Hendricks as a PPR bump, but did suggest bumping Quinn's grade in big play IDP leagues.

It looks like the title line above the sheet was inadvertently cut during the conversion to HTML. There should be a line that reads: 12-14 team PPR, expanded IDP lineups, balanced IDP scoring. The section on defensive tackles noted my thoughts on the grades for Nick Fairley specifically and rookie DTs in general.

Good job. TE Virgil's last name is Green though, not Carter.
 Thanks. I thought I'd had a Bengal brain fart for a second, but I think that one got muddled in the conversion, too. It's correct on the PDF.I'll try to get any errors corrected for the web version. Appreciate any and all fact-checking.

Great read. Definitely gives some perspective compared to the "normal" rankings. Would like to see more breakdowns like this. Definitely feeling better than I did a week ago about my late first rounders.

 somehow my computer only showed the spreadsheet, it stopped loading before the comments. Now that I see them, I appreciate this even more.

Appreciate the comments, everyone.

Looks like the database is ready for us to submit rookie rankings, so the individual and consensus FBG rankings should be up soon. And judging from an early draft, Waldman and I might be fighting over Delone Carter all summer long. I read his Rookie Scouting Profile -- you should, too -- so it wasn't a major surprise. The last time we did that, it was over Ray Rice, and he got him more often than I did. Hopefully it works out similarly (kind of, :P ) this time.

Great job Jene.

Not sure why, but the PDF doesn't work for me (no text in the spreadsheet, just weird symbols). Must be a font?

Same thing here.
Glad I said something then. Maybe someone can figure that out.
Strange. I just downloaded it again and it opened fine. The sheet is a different font (Estrangelo) than the text, though. Let me try to fit the names in a more traditional font and upload a second PDF for those having trouble.

Second version added to original post. Spreadsheet font is Arial, was harder for me to read in Excel but it looks pretty good on the PDF. Please let me know if that one looks funky. Thanks.

Great work Jene. I liked how you tiered your players in each round. I differ a little bit on a few players but most of them are actually really close to how I would rank them.
