Commish Question for Keeper League (1 Viewer)

We protect 2 players. But a team wants to protect only 1. Where would that extra draft pick fall? We are 12 team league with 14 roster spots.

ESPN Fantasy is forcing it to be #1. That way each team has all the same number of players on the roster before the official draft begins. That just does not seem right. The team thinking about it is #6 in our draft order and this move would give him basically the #1 pick.

In our keeper league the players that are kept are based on the round they were drafted in. If an owner decides not to keep a certain player they get that round back. Also we don't allow first rounders to be kept.

But as far as espn goes, that's one thing I hope they fix (picking where keepers go). But when we draft we make sure everyone selects their kept players in the correct round. Ex i'm keeping Antonio Brown for a fifth. When my pick in round 5 comes up I just select AB.

its a bit of an annoyance but it works for us.

If your rules are written such that every team must keep 2 players, then he must keep 2 players.

Since it appears you have not addressed keeping less than 2 players in your rules, then I would say that he can choose to not keep a 2nd, but he does not get any extra draft pick, he can just add a player after the draft. Then it should be a rule change that your league considers now to implement next offseason. Making a change to the rules at this point in time for this season simply is not fair to the league.

You have to define these things before they happen.

Here's how we set ours up.  You can keep between 0 and 3 players from your previous roster (keep any players, but they can only be rostered for 3 years before they go back into the draft).  Everyone gets their 1st round pick no matter what.  If you keep 1 player, you give up your 2nd round pick.  if you keep 2 players, you give up your 2nd and 3rd round picks.  If you keep 3 players, you give up your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks.  We also do not start the serpentine until after the keeper rounds.  So that bad teams are not penalized for not keeping anyone.  Round 1 (1-12), Round 2 (1-12), Round 3 (1-12), Round 4 (1-12), Round 5 (12-1), Round 6 (1-12), Round 7 (12-1), etc.

This arrangement has worked out very well for our league!

We allow teams to keep less than the 6 permitted. If they choose to keep less, and don't have enough picks (via trade/original) to field a complete roster, they recieve make-up picks at the end of the draft. No change otherwise.

Noo way I let him get the first pick. If it says two he has to keep two. Than you can vote to change the rule for next season later.

If the rules don't expressly require keeping 2, the way I would handle it is that he designates 2 "keepers" and then is allowed to drop one of them the end of the draft, and replace him with whoever is left. That gets around ESPN wanting to give hem a pick before the 1st round.

I'm just commenting here so I can come back and look at a later date.  My league is evolving to keeper next year and want to refer to what I see here.  Thanks!
