Commish Question (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Final playoff spot comes down to whether Team A wins or not. Team A is up by 10 against Team C, and Team C has Matt Bryant left to play (who is averaging about 9.5 points). Team C is out of contention. Team C has benched Matt Bryant and is blackmailing Team B, who would make the playoffs if Team A loses, for a case of beer. Only rule for not starting a complete lineup is taking a 0 for the week, which would be the same result. He can choose to start him anytime up to kickoff.

As commish, I think I'm going to allow it.

By the way, I have a side bet with Team A as to who finishes ahead, and I would win $100 if Team A loses, so it would be in my interest to force Team C to start Bryant.

You are a terrible Commish. Any Commish worth his weight would get in on this action and claim a case of beer for himself also.

this is valid criticism.

That's 2 votes. Only thing left is to figure out what beer you'll be drinking tonight.

Sounds like a great league
yeah, those leagues where people don't have fun and screw with each other are so much better.
my league does both those things, but blackmailing someone like that is complete BS ... it amounts to collusion if Bryant ends up benched in exchange for anything"umm Team A ... i need a win this week against you and I see you have the #1 seed locked up, so do you think you could bench your entire team against me so that you totally screw over that guy you hate (you know, Team B)?" ... yea, that's how to run your league :hey:

Fun league with friends, definitely allow - but try to get in on the action.

League with strangers, don't allow.

League with strangers who have violent tempers and access to guns, definitely don't allow.

Trading anything in a fantasy league for non-fantasy value is blatantly BS in my book and the kind of thing you really shouldn't have to have a rule against. If guys in your league can't see how bush league that is, I wouldn't want to be a part of it.

Why not just auction off your league title to the highest bidder on draft night and forget about running a team all season? It amounts to the same thing, really. Everyone involved in the fix loves a rigged game; everyone else, not so much.

Do the RIGHT thing, end of story. If you dont know what that is than you shouldn't be a Comish.

Utterly ridiculous. That fact that you are actually considering allowing this tells me you have zero business being a commish.

Since I would lose the $100 side bet, I've demanded Team C's used Ping driver that I hit way better than my own if Bryant's benching ends up costing me.These guys all know each other very well. It's a $500 pot, but nobody really cares about the money. It's all about bragging rights. I'm pretty sure the ransom on Bryant is going to get paid.

in conclusion: :fishing:
not at all. just because it isn't a "someone traded steve slaton for chris johnson--should I tell my mom?" thread doesn't mean it isn't a topic worth discussing. I've gotten valuable input from people that understand the difference between a fantasy league and work.

The blackmail part is sheer horsecrap, but rules are rules.

If you guys all can laugh it off (assuming the whole league finds it amusing) then let it go.

Update--deal was finally struck. Owner of Team C gives 2 tickets to Seahawks/Jets to owner of Team B. Team B keeps his driver, but I get an option to purchase it. Except for the downside of having to watch the Seahawks play, not a bad deal for Team C, considering Bryant probably won't score 11 points and it won't make a difference.

So Bryant is back in the lineup? Team C might have done better with a case of beer rather than be subjected to a Seahawk game.

Agreed. I'm just glad I was able to parlay this whole debacle into a better chance to own that driver.

Now announce to the league that you would not have allowed Bryant to be benched, but didn't want that tidbit to influence the deals made.

this is some of the funniest #### i have read in awhile...don't think you could actually make it up......  just what kind of owners do you let in the league? :goodposting:

Most of the above posters are amateurs.

If team A has a hot looking wife, I sense an indecent proposal coming on.

Didn't you mean "owner of team B gives away the tickets to C, who keeps his driver?

You had me confused there for a minute.

Yes. Thanks for following along. It's attention to detail like this that made me confident I could get help for this dilemma here. Bryant's missed field goal and blocked extra point made the whole thing even better.

Ignorant thread winner of the day.

It's collusion...and if you're a commish...not only are you too ignorant to understand the definition of collusion...but too ignorant to avoid writing ignorant posts on a FFL forum condoning collusion.

it's blackmail and unethical, but it certainly isn't collusion. there aren't any teams working together here. there was one team trying to gain from the fact that another team needed him to win in a game that he no longer had a stake. that's not collusion under any definition. there weren't any secret agreements or deception. this was done openly and solely for the benefit of one team, whether ethically or not. before you call people ignorant, maybe you should check to see if you have any idea what you're talking about. but congrats on taking a lighthearted thread so seriously.

My rules state that each team, no matter the situation, do the best they can to win each week(we play to win the game). if I feel strongly that a team is intentionally tanking, I will take over the team and kick out the offending owner.
