This is my league 16th season we had our draft yesterday and the draft is starting to go to long. We started at 1 finished about 6. I don't wanna skip people when they taking to long to make a pick but I don't kno what else to do. You guys got any ideas on speeding things up or does this time sound about right?

Both my 12 team, 16 round drafts last about 3.5 hours. Some people whine that others take too long but i dont get the complaint. The draft is supposed to be a great time to shoot the #### and relax, drink some beers, eat, and draft. Anyway, neither of my leagues uses a clock.

I def agree with that but I think what happens over the yrs instead of it just being a bunch of friends a few of the guys are just there for gambling purposes don't hear from then til draft time so of course they ready to go. But you make a good point

3 minute timer for the 1st half of draft, 2 minutes in 2nd half. Once time expires, pick not skipped but both teams are on the clock. As long as owners know this is how it is before draft day things should go fine.

Only a few guys will even need the timer, but it keeps these guys from taking 5 and 10 minutes because they are goofing off or unprepared.

A draft timer is always a good idea. I really like the 5 minute draft pick timer, with a warning at 3 minutes. Sometimes, you can't really help taking a minute to argue with yourself over a pick, but most of the time the timer doesn't even get close to going over. However, it does keep things on track, and the ones that I have done usually go about 2 - 2 and half hours.

If its live amongst quasi friends then no timer. Heckling is the way to go.

"Doesn't matter how long you take for the guy if you're going to drop him week 1."

"Ben Coates is still available."

"Did the hamster fell off the wheel over there?"

And then there's always the timeless reminding him who's turn it is every 10 seconds.

12 team redraft, 25 years in. Live draft. No timer. Usually takes 3.0-3.5 hours. When the same couple teams really start taking too long, we heckle them mercilessly. Two picks before their turn someone will tell them to start talking about their pick. I don't see any reason someone should take 5 minutes to make a pick or a draft should be 5 hours long.
