MFL isn’t awful. Perhaps their mobile app is, but I don’t use it anyway. From a configuration perspective it is quite good. I say this as a commissioner.

The MFL app is awful, the site isn't slick but it's highly customizable and incredibly robust. I like the website much better than Sleeper. It's in the app experience where Sleeper shines.

I totally agree with your first sentence. Have never used Sleeper so I can't speak to that.

The MFL app is only useful for three things: submitting your lineup, checking live scoring and checking player news. It's awful with everything else. I use the desktop interface for all commish functions and all other team management functions.

Also an ESPN league for an extended family league where most aunts and uncles don't know what they're doing.

MFL is incredibly customizable. The backend is really solid, but their user experience design is stuck in 2004. They really, really need to give the site a facelift and create a native app. The two apps out (at least on android) are 3rd party.

Agree here. We have debated the merits of MFL vs. Sleeper in many threads. The Sleeper app and interface is light years ahead of MFL's app. Where MFL has a big advantage is customization and scenario analysis (i.e., seeing how scoring rule changes may affect your league). Just a matter of what is most important to you as commissioner and your league.

I've heard a rumor that the recent repeated fee increases are leading to a major overhaul being released in 2026.

I've never used any MFL apps. The browser on my phone works well. I've never heard anything good about the apps and have dealt with people in my leagues constantly complaining about things that must be only app related.

My biggest gripe about MFL is some goofiness in the live draft window. I never experienced those issues on other software so I am hopeful they get those eradicated finally.

I could not agree more with this.

My decade’s old home league I commission is still on CBS, mostly because we have a bunch of luddites who need the training wheels interface.

But MFL allows for so much more customization. Especially for IDP leagues. Everyone in my league wants SFL & TFL yardage points. CBS refuses to add this. It’s bonkers - they have distance scoring for FG and allow points per range - it seems like they have the interface for it.

Gah. Maybe one day.

I’ll believe it when I see it. MFL was acquired in early 2024 and IIRC they indicated a big upgrade of their software/app for this year.

MFL is absolutely terrible. But it's absolutely terrible in a specific way; it's a site that's built by and for serious fantasy geeks. No one else will ever provide the level of fantasy customization that MFL does. But the interface is astoundingly bad in ways that are really unfathomable in today's technical environment.

Agreed... the least intuitive user interface imaginable. I've been using MFL for well over a decade as league commissioner and I still have to search to find things because nothing is where you'd expect it to be.

But easily the most customizable site for complex leagues, as has been mentioned. A great fit for leagues like ours.

For the more simple leagues, though, it just doesn't make sense. I used to be fine with it, if for no other reason than it kept pretty much all of my leagues in one place, which is convenient. That said, for $100/league (a little less with the discounts), I can no longer justify that argument. This is at least the third time that they've raised the price in the past decade, and for what? There really has been no improvement to the site. In fact, I would argue that, in some ways, it's gotten worse, not better.

Put it this way.... I shut down a long-time keeper league last year that was on MFL, and I'm replacing it with a very straight-forward redraft league this year. Mostly family and close friends. There is zero chance we will use MFL for that. There simply isn't any reason to, and for beginners (of which we will have a couple), it's extremely confusing to use compared to the alternatives (Yahoo, ESPN, or Sleeper). I'm not anti-MFL by any means, but it has its niche, so to speak, and it's not for everybody (or for every league, I guess).

I don't doubt that. As a staunch MFL supporter/defender for many years, I guess I'm just to the point where I'm not going to insist that a new league consider using MFL if the format is fairly simple/straightforward. I'd rather have bad for free than bad for $100. And, while MFL seems (mostly) easy to use for those of us who have used it for years, I can see where it would be overwhelming in some ways for someone new to the site. Sometimes less is more, and I could see where it would be easy to get "lost" in MFL if you've never used it before.

I honestly have no idea. They might, but it sounds like the consensus is still that MFL has the best customization options by far. For that reason (and all of the saved history, even if it's not perfect), my dynasty leagues have never taken the time to "shop" around for other options. If I was starting a new one, I'd certainly take a look, though.

Good point... for a long running league, the history alone, is a nice retention consideration.
