Concern over S. Holmes' # of targets? (1 Viewer)

Hey Sharks, I know it's early but I drafted this guy hoping he would ascend to Big Ben's number one target. First week he was a distant third behind Ward and Miller. Do you expect a repeat like last year--feast or fammin with him? I can't afford too many 2 point games out of him.

I'm not so concerned that Santonio won't get his, it's just being able to predict when he will.

In a short field, and with that o-line, I'm not sure whether he is one of the first 3 options. (RB, Hines, Heath)

Basically he could be used mainly as a deep ball threat, and I don't know if the Steelers will need to rely on that much this season as their offense looks like a juggernaut.

As a Texans fan and a Holmes owner, that game was painful to watch. However, the Steelers got out to such an early lead running the ball that they didn't need to go deep to Santonio. I'm not panicking about him after one game.

I will not panic and drop Holmes for Royal.

I will not panic and drop Holmes for Royal.

Pittsburgh jumped ahead to an early lead and only threw the ball a few times. Holmes will be fine. Maintain high expectations.

Ben threw it 14 times.

The Steelers were never behind.

No need to go deep.

Holmes will be fine, but if you're not a risk taker, you would be better off with someone else.

I don't want to panic either but say you got a guy like Cotchery on your bench. Not to make this a WDIS start thread but I'm curious what the patience level with Holmes is...I'm pretty sure I'm gonna keep him in against the Browns but I went through this last year and just kept missing the boat. It's probably better having the number 1 on a crappier team for consistnecy than a number 2 (or3) on a better team. Last year, I eventually supplanted Holmes with R. White (but I was alreadt out of the playoff picture at that point  )

When they need him, he will provide.
I was going to say will they need him though? Which of course is an exaggeration but my point was the Steelers O looked really good and might just blow through their schedule. Then I looked at their schedule and realized that they will definitely need him, so I agree, he will be fine.

He was extremely consistent last season. Only two games out of 13 below 49 receiving yards. You're making mountains out of mole hills.

Yeah...I drafted him for the big games.Having LT and Wayne helps because I can take the risks for the big games from Holmes...but too many more 1 pointers and Driver will be in there as my #2.

Apparently Ben's shoulder was banged up by a Mario Williams sack, so if it's his throwing arm, maybe there is cause for worry next week.

People expecting Ward to go away are going to be disappointed.
:goodposting: I have been saying this for months now. Ward played through tears of his MCL and PCL and miniscus last year. He's healthy again, and obviously playing pretty well. 6/76/2 TDs is pretty good. Also that 75 yarder PI call against him was highly sketchy. Easily could have been 7/151/2. Can he stay healthy for a full season is the real question with Hines at this point.

You're being VERY generous calling that sketchy. It was a blown call, plain & simple. I sometimes wonder if some refs just feel the need to get involved? ;)Ward will continue to be a big part of the Steelers passing attack, and will likely see more targets than Holmes. Holmes will probably have more yardage & TDs at the end of it, but Ward will have a smoother points graph.
