Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (6 Viewers)

Queen was sensational. Top 3 concerts ever for me. Perfect amount of homage to Freddie Mercury including Adam Lambert addressing it head on. “I’m not Freddie, I’m a big fan too, just carrying the torch for him,” etc. Brian May did a cool song with Freddie on video next to him. Looked like they were playing together live. 

Lambert is brilliant. Voice was spot on and man what a showman. Killer Queen was especially good. Stage, lights, video were all huge as you’d expect for this tour.  30+ songs. No opening act. Total pros in great form

I agree they are very good. I saw them a year ago. I am jealous you got Dragon Attack. That is one of my favorites.

 
Gonna snag tickets this morning to see Chris Stapleton this fall in Madison.  Saw Luke Combs earlier this year.  Dude is awesome.

 
Saw Potugal. The Man last weekend.  Good show.  Started off with Pink Floyd The Wall straight into a Metallica song (can't remember which one).  :suds:  Opening act was Quinn Christopherson, he was decent but kinda depressing and not a great opener as he basically mellowed the crowd.

Going to see Vampire Weekend in a few weeks and Mumford in October.  May go to Stapleton also, but have a conflict that we're trying to get out of...   :wall:

Anyone seen Judah and the Lion in concert?  Debating on that show, the opening act is Flora Cash, which we really like, but so much of Judah music just seems repetitive.  I like it in small doses but a whole show may be a bit much.  

Wife also wants to see Cold War Kids, but it is a Tuesday night and we're not young.  

 
I saw John Mayer with the wife last night.  People can feel free to mock Mayer because he’s a mainstream pretty boy, but he’s also exceptionally talented.  Guy has an incredible ability to convey emotion through his lyrics, voice, and masterful guitar playing.  And he really shredded on his guitar solos.

Plus, I loved his stage design.  He kept it real simple with the lighting and backdrop; then had large screens above with close-ups of the performers which had a slight psychedelic effect, but nothing over the top.

Great show.

 
Don't get to see much any more, but wife and I are going to Lord Huron and Bully on Saturday night in Minneapolis.   I think in a couple months it's Phantogram.  

 
Ok give me your top 3 Cage the Eephant songs.  Maybe I’m just missing something....  don’t want to write them off unnecessarily 

 
Hitting My Morning Jacket at Red Rocks next week. Love MMJ and never been to Red Rocks before. Kind of a bucket list trip for me. Beyond excited for the experience.

Going to Tedeschi Trucks tomorrow and Saturday at the Rocks. If prices drop Im considering MMJ on Saturday

Will be the 12th show of TTB I will have seen at Red Rocks over 8 years

Pack a backpack with layers to wear - a good to great rain suit is the best - a good poncho is second best - the cheap plastic $5 ones aren't the best. Be prepared for anything.

Not sure where you are sitting but if you go down to the lower right(as you look at stage ) and even with the stage you will see a beer stand and a mens room and womens room flanking it - and they will have a line. If you look across from that you will see a metal rail stairs - take those down below for the bathrooms and usually there is little to no line.

Get in early if you can and visit the museum at the top. Spend a bit of time upstairs after sunset to see the city lit up - it's best after row 35 or so.

Personally I like sitting around sound booth at row 13-18 if you are in GA - you get the best of the PA sound  and a good look at the stage. Closer works but the sound is more amps and monitors. GA ends at row 25. If you have a Reserved seat and get up there early enough before GA fills in - take a better seat in GA.

My favorite parking is South Lot because it empties faster - only one other lot has to merge. It empties into Morrison and you take it through Morrison and jump on C470 to get back to Denver quickly. Others like the upper North lot because there are cool rock outcroppings in the lot and they like to tailgate up there with the better view. You are coming into the Amp at the top - which means you climb up after show.  It merges with 3 other lots on the way out to Alameda and it's a slower drive up to I-70. 

There are busses from Denver that work nicely - my brother likes them- I've never taken one. You can't really hang out a bit after a show. Uber picks up at the lower lots - it's a long hike down past the trading post.

Saw Iron Maiden last night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Have not been to a proper metal show in years, and haven't seen Maiden since 1983 (wow, has it really been that long?)

Fantastic show. Band sounded great, stage show was incredible, and easily the most enthusiastic crowd I've seen for a show in years. If you like them, go see them this tour. Band isn't getting any younger (Bruce is the youngest at 60), and I don't know how long they can keep this up - they really bring it. 

Note: I'm a "want to drive there myself" guy, and getting to and from Brooklyn from upstate is a royal pain. That's the only part that wasn't great.

So jealous.  I should have dropped some coin and seen them on this tour.  

 
Saw Martina McBride at the Ventura County Fair last night.  Not bad for free, or the cost of a gigantic corndog. Seriously, have seen her 3-4X and she can belt.  Good show.  May go back and see Brothers Osborne Monday night for free.

Saw her like 3 times at the Houston rodeo. When she sings out Independence Day ... well, I don't think anyone can sit on his or her hands and not have a good time.

 
Bully had some great energy.  Unfortunately we got there a little late so we didn't see the full set.  Lord Huron was also very good.  They seem to be breaking out of their shell a little.  The first time we saw them they seemed to be playing to themselves, but the last couple times there has been more banter and energy from them.  

It just seems like every show I go to I turn into grumpy old man and ##### about people around me talking through the whole damn show.  I don't get what the point is of paying for tickets just to talk like you are at a bar.  

Anyway, right now I am looking into Sleater-Kinney tickets.  I didn't know they had a new album coming out, and it looks like they will be in Milwaukee in a couple months.   :wub:

Was introduced to his music while doing FEMA work in Houston by his cousin of all people. Super talented.

Might be going to see Touche Amore in Anaheim on the 14th. It depends on if I feel young enough...

They're performing their ...To The Beat of a Dead Horse LP in its entirety. Really about to go see this. 

eta* Tickets purchased. Should be an interesting show.

I'm not a country guy but came across some Stapleton songs and became a fan of his. He's got a hell of a voice.

This summer I've done Judas Priest and free concert of REO Speedwagon so far in Los Angeles. This coming weekend going to free concert for Blues Traveler. At the end of the month, going to festival with The Cure, Pixies and Deftones, and the following week to 80s night with Flock of Seagulls, Dramarama, Wang Chung, Missing Persons, The Tubes and others. I'm tempted to see Bryan Ferry and there's another coming up with Brian Wilson and the Zombies, but it feels like too many concerts.

 
I did indeed catch Touché Amoré last night. Such a quality band, quality show. Lots of stage diving, dancing, sing (shout) along lyrics and vox. Just a good time and it's good to see a punk/hardcore band with the staying power they have. Saw them in Anaheim and they're from L.A., so that added a cool vibe to the proceedings.

Some good free shows in my city this weekend. 

There's an outdoor summer concert series that is mostly crowd pleaser tribute bands and classic rock I'm not too interested in but tonight it's The Rural Alberta Advantage. 

It's also our local folk festival all weekend, with Kathleen Edwards, Matt Mays, Tim Baker (Hey Rosetta) A Tribe Called Red and a bunch of other Canadian folk types. Unfortunately Tim Baker and ATCR conflict with the RAA but still hoping to bounce between the two events :thumbup:

 
Doing a Texas Hill Country weekend.  Saw a crazy old guy at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels Thursday . He was great.  Must have been near 80 and wailed on the guitar.  I saw Lyle Lovett and His Large Band Friday night at the Moody Theatre (Home of Austin City Limits). Right now worrierqueen is putting on makeup for Ray Wiley Hubbard at the Luckenbach Dance Hall tonight.

Saw the same show on 7/26 Friday night - fantastic.

Took the L.I.R.R. and traingated into Broooklyn.

will see Maiden every time they are in the area.

 
Saw the Avett Bros. this past Saturday at the Greek in Berkeley.  Always love seeing a show there, not a bad seat in the house.  It was weird because it wasn't all GA (all of the other shows that I've seen there have always been everything GA). 

The opener was Lake Street Dive.  They put on a good performance.  I had never heard their stuff before (other than Spotify on Friday), so I was impressed. 

The Avetts also put on good show.  I was bummed because a buddy of mine went Friday night, and they got "Ain't No Man", so I wasn't expecting it.  But, we got it too.  Love that song. 

Next up is DMB in Sac on 9/7 and again in SF on 9/10, then Hardly Strictly Bluegrass the first weekend of Oct.
