Super close one last pick up until the end. Edmunds ends up taking it.

I don't remember much about Gruden's picks years ago, but it does seem he had luck with the secondary.  And the Raiders have a need there.  So I went Derwin James.

Seems like a no brainer with Edmunds off the board. Raiders are desperate at LB, Roquan is a highly talented LB that has the athleticism that is needed in the game today. My only hesitation is:

- A non edge rushing LB isn’t a highly valuable position so maybe they go a different direction like CB or OT. Also Gruden is old school so he might care about positional value so much

I went with Maurice Hurst. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but Gruden has always had interior lineman who are more expected to get upfield. Warren Sapp and Booger McFarland in Tampa, Darrell Russell and Rod Coleman in Oakland. Hurst is on the Aaron Donald-Geno Atkins-Gerald McCoy spectrum of a guy who is maybe a little smaller than you'd like a DT to be, but excels at everything you'd ask him to do.

I think the media is way too low of Hurst, and Harold Landry for that matter, as they are both excellent pass rushers, better than Bradley Chubb in my opinion(strictly at pass rushing) and I think because of that, a lot of people are going to be surprised when both of those guys go top-10.

Of course, I don't have Edmunds or Fitzpatrick in my top-10(top-15 is debatable) so I'm clearly looking at a lot of these guys differently than the consensus.

Suggestion to put the NFL team by the previous picks in the recap on the each pick voting post.

every one is mocking R Smith to the Raiders, which means it won't happen. But everything I've read about him makes me want him to be the pick here.

They better not take a freaking LB in the top 10.  CB or pass rusher.  Carrie gone, Smith gone, Amerson gone - this one's easy, it's Ward.

In general, yes, CB is a more valuable position than LB. But given the Raiders desperate need at the inside linebacker position to help stop slot receivers and TEs as well help up front with the run, I'd prefer filling that hole. In my opinion, I don't think Ward is that much more special at his position than Smith is at his own, and CB is a little deeper this year than ILB, so I lean Smith.

Smith has his downsides in terms of his non-ideal size, but I think he's more of a versatile player. Ward is solid, but I think he's also undersized and understrength and would be better as a nickelback than potentially useful in all situations in the backfield.

I voted Vea. The interior defensvie line position is one of the few positions the Raiders haven't addressed this FA after adding a gazillion free agents. It's also arguably one of their weakest positions. Gruden has said several times he needs someone next to Mack on the line that will help collapse the pocket and put some pressure on the QB. I also could see Hurst being an option here as well. He would be good in Guenthers 1 gap system I believe.

I voted for Vea as well but maybe Hurst is better than him? I am not sure, both are good players.

Looking at who the Raiders drafted on defense when Gruden was the head coach.

Charles Woodson and Derrick Gibson were the only 1st round picks on defense. Both were defensive backs. I do not remember Gibson or what his career was like.

2nd round picks on DE Tony Bryant and DT Leon Bender. A 3rd round pick used on DE DeLawrence Grant.

Grudens first season with the Raiders the selected 5 defensive players  4 offensive players. Two offensive linemen a FB and a TE.
