Constantine the Great. (1 Viewer)

Thank him for your day, or days off. Nearly 2000 years later and his legacy lives on. Constantine.

CtG is a fascinating human and one of the all time most influential rulers ever. It's likely Christianity would have caught on officially anyways, it had a large movement. But CtG helped usher in not just a new era away from Judaism and more traditional Greek Mythology to what would become an institution almost like no other. The supreme power of the Roman Catholic Church through the Dark Ages, Crusades, and the entire run of the Byzantine Empire was unmatched. Even as Islam and Mohammed were whipped up in 632, the Catholic Church had a good head start to spread the word.

Thanks CtG for Santa Claus

Last night at the Lutheran service I attend (for my father in law) the minister told us that Constantine's mom went to Bethlehem and scientifically proved it was the birthplace of Jesus Christ. He said that modern secularists have been trying to disprove this ever since but that Constantine's mom proved it irrefutably for all time.

I can't remember her name but yes Constantine made that claim. His mother also claimed to have found The One True Cross, complete with nails. Of course the first thing they did was break it up to be dispersed as relics.

Funny to hear a Lutheran talk like this though, I'm sure Marty Luther would be chagrined.

Empress Helena, or Helen. Celebrated together in the Orthodox, Catholic, Lutheran and Anglican faiths.

Constantine also holds a special place in the hearts of Brothers of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

how much are indulgences going for these days? I may need a few.....

He's a real son of a ##### in my book. I just saw my family a month ago. He couldn't have set the date in the summer?

Great way to get the pagans to accept his religion. Use their holiday, insert central figure of religion he wanted to use as his national religion, wala Christmas.
