The Grandfather of Pain (1 Viewer)

I'm likely to change the title a bit although I was going to ask if anyone knows of another grandparents thread with advice and tips

-We want to be the ones in the family that open up more lanes for her to excel in until she finds what she loves
Example is musical instruments. She won't be ready for quite some time but I want to put a guitar in her hands as early as possible, keyboard even if it's Fisher Price to start
There is a child's version of a DJ set up, we want to make sure she gets music exposure, I'm a big believer in the ability to read music. Many people suddenly understand math when you work in timing and beats and all that jazz.
Opening up new things, ideas, activities for her is a great thing to do, it absolutely is. At that point, though, you have to check yourself to see if you're pushing things on her or if you're watching to see what she takes to and then following her where she's going.

Also think it's exciting and awesome. I'd be annoyed if my parents had such a strong agenda and didn't discuss it with me. I'm raising my kids - I'm thrilled they're excited and grateful for their partnership ..within the parameters my wife and I set.

Nothing you've laid out as a desire seems insane in any way - but I'd talk at length with my son about how I hope to grandparent and ask (and mean it when I ask) what he hopes to get from me and for the kids.

Please don't buy a bunch of useless crap the kid has to lug around. Let the kid find what she wants to collect, if anything. Otherwise, it's look at the gift you don't get to play with.

Oh, that's "gift".

Also, buy some blocks or lego or something, not just girl stuff. She might like that and become an engineer.

This one is kind of meh, but it's something I did for my best friend's kid (who we treat as our niece). When she was born I bought her $200 worth of Litecoin figuring it'll either be worth zero by the time she's older or it could buy her first car or pay for a chunk of college. 5 years later it's worth $300, lol.

Hence the balanced, no-load mutual fund brokerage account.
