Convince me that Tiki Barber is truly worth a top 5 pick (1 Viewer)

The injury to Clinton Portis has made me re-examine my thoughts on the RB position after the big 3 are off the board.

I've had Tiki many years in the past (pre-2002), but I never drafted him above the 3rd round. Can anyone remember another top 5 pick at RB who was all but guaranteed to never get a handoff inside the 3-yard line?

Tell me why Tiki has no possibility of pulling another 3 TD year like he did back in 2003.

That season Tiki finished 15th in non-PPR leagues (higher in PPR) leagues. Since then he's finished 2nd and 4th in non-PPR leagues. His 3 TD season also coincided with a) Jim Fassel as head coach, b) terrible QB play, c) even worse defensive play.

In the two seasons since that 3 TD season he's led the NFL in total yards (in both seasons), scored 26 TDs, caught 106 receptions for 1,108 yards and oh yeah, rushed for 3,378 yards.

Thanks, Jason. I'm just making sure I'm not overcompensating for underrating Tiki last year.

Tiki Barber fell to 2.04 in my initial dynasty draft. Given that it was dynasty PART of the fall was that he's stated he's thinking of retiring after this season, however there is alot of thought that he's just not going to play at a high level and that Jacobs will cut into his TDs

My principal concern is the lack of short TDs due to Jacobs. In 2004, Barber had 15 TDs:3 of 50+ yards2 of 4-9 yards4 of 3 yards (1 receiving)2 of 2 yards4 of 1 yardsIn 2005, Barber had 11 TDs:2 of 40+ yards4 of 12-21 yards4 of 4-6 yards (2 receiving)1 of 3 yardsThe fact that Barber went from 5 TDs of 4+ yards in 2004 to 10 TDs of 4+ yards yet his TD total dropped shows just how important those short TDs are to fantasy value. I'm thinking it is unlikely that Barber maintains double-digit TD's from outside the 3-yard line.Granted, with his yardage output, he could drop to 6 TDs and still reach Top 8 RB level unless his yardage drops more than 20% from the year before.

Jason, if I may follow up, why do you have Steven Jackson ranked one spot ahead of Tiki?
Because I expect Steven Jackson to score more fantasy points? ;)In all seriousness, I believe Scott Linehan will unlock SJax' vast potential and be the breakout star this year potentially.

Again, thanks. I'm jumping all over the place on this one. On one hand, I worry that Tiki cannot do it again. On the other hand, I'm concerned because Jackson has never done what Tiki has done 3 out of 4 years.Drives me crazy...

It's a tough spot to be sure...I've flip flopped Tiki and SJax all offseason. Also, in PPR leagues Tiki is clearly ahead of SJax, in my opinion.

I have the 5th pick, I will just let the #4 guy settle it for me.

I'll take either Tiki or Sjax.

But I am having trouble keeping Sjax over Ronnie Brown who I think is about equal to Sjax

If he can stay healthy , that s a big if . I mean he was nt even the starter in his first two seasons and got injured in both.
