Cop shoots dog at wrong house. Leaves a note. (1 Viewer)

Reminds me of that cop in FL a few month back that stopped at a house because the car door was open on the vehicle in the driveway (the residents were loading up bags to go somewhere). Cop rings the bell, a dog comes running out of the front door, cop puts 3 shots in him. The owners come out and see their pup laying there bleeding out, wagging his tail. The security camera caught it all on video, it was heartbreaking to watch.

Thanks Posty!

Link in case anyone wants to get depressed on this beautiful Friday afternoon.

What the heck is wrong with people.  At a minimum both of these officers should be suspended without pay for a long time.  I would probably file a civil suit against the cop and the district.  Despicable. to say the least.

Broke my heart with that part

No suspension, no disciplinary action, no dog sensitivity training...just a strange distress call to an alley and a lead pipe to a knee.

Geez.

I might have gotten myself shot if that had happened to my dog in front of me.

I was thinking this was going to be another story where people rushed to judgment and the real story was nowhere near what was stated. After watching that interview though and reading more about this it sounds like this is actually what happened. Can't believe they said that they tried calling and the dog wasn't really bleeding that much. WTF???? I would have excused the situation completely had they taken the dog to a vet or the humane society themselves. Nothing wrong with defending against a dog that was left outside with nobody home. But once you shoot the dog and are out of danger, how do you not take action? That is inexcusable.

It seriously doesn't seem like these particular cops have an understanding of what it means to pull out a handgun and let bullets fly.

Every bullet that comes out of that gun could potentially hit a human.

If you're firing a gun, it had better be for a probable life or death situation.

Sounds like the deputies tried to help the dog but couldn't safely get near it.

P.S. Records indicate that the dog had been involved in two prior biting incidents.

I am the first guy to stand up for cops. I am also one of the first guys to bash aggressive dogs and their stupid owners. This dog may have been an awful creature. The fact that it was left outside with nobody home shows the owners suck.

All that said, I dont care how evil the dog was. Once the dog is shot, you cant just leave it there bleeding and leave a freaking note. Call the humane society. Call animal control. Call the ASPCA. If it was so aggressive couldn't it have been a danger to other people? What if a girl scout walked up to the door?

If this story had gone where they left a note that their dog was dead and the body had been taken away, I wouldnt be upset at the police at all. They have a right to defend themselves. Once they are safe, they have a responsibility to the suspects/victims/animals/etc involved.

Lighten up, Francis.

You would give someone a free pass that shot your dog and left him/her on the porch suffering?
Did you read BigBottoms post?

He said there were no “Beware of Dog” signs. Logs show that when the deputy shot the dog, multiple deputies came to the scene and spent over an hour trying to help the dog before leaving the note

Yeah, this dog has already bitten two people in the past, and those are just the documented incidents. And according to the neighbor, the dog is hyper aggressive and the owner ordered it to attack her. So I tend to believe the officer's account that he was defending himself, and the other deputies' accounts that they tried to for over an hour to get close to the dog and it wouldn't let them.

So you either assume that a) dealing with dogs is not part of a cop's job or b) cops don't need training at all.

Both assumptions are wrong.
I mean, I'm all for the cops not killing animals.  If there's a newsletter, sign me up.  But I can think of better ways for a city or state to spend its citizens' money.  How many of these cases are we really looking at a year?

This was justified.  As someone who rarely sides with cops I would have shot that dog too.  Homeowner has no case. Besides being a ####ty dog owner.
