Coronavirus impact on election (1 Viewer)

This still strikes me as rife for fraud - the signature aspect seems either very time consuming to check several million signatures, or subject to error if done by software, and in either case no chance to appeal if a vote is thrown out for non-matching signature.

But, I don't really know how secure other voting systems are - in terms of verifying every valid vote is counting.
Here in Florida you can validate your vote was processed via website.  In my previous states (NC,OH and SC) I did vote in person and never had any feedback in that process that things were valid and good to go.

NEWS:
@GovLarryHogan announces the April 28 Maryland primary will be postponed to June 2. A special election to fill MD07, the seat of the late Rep. Elijah Cummings, will be held using vote by mail, my colleague @DianneG reports.

I am coming around on the idea that vote by mail, should be part of the 2020 election preparation for every state (and the federal government).

Hopefully, there is no need to eliminate in-person voting, but the lack of preparation for such an eventuality would be criminal.

I agree. I also hope that it does not become a partisan issue. My understanding is that there is no clear evidence VBM benefits either party. Given that many older voters are being told not to leave their homes, this year it may well benefit Republicans more. We should do it regardless.

Maybe a better way of saying it would be that there is no rational reason it should be a partisan issue. You’re of course right that it will be

Looking back through the early pages of the corona threads. You have made a giant change in opinion regarding the seriousness of the virus. Is there anything in particular that changed your mind?

Universal vote by mail would be the end of our republic as we know it.

Georgia Democrat @GeorgiaDemocrat

UPDATE: Every registered Georgia voter will receive a vote-by-mail application for the May 19 Primary Election. #gapol

For some reason, I'm down on vote by mail.  I don't know why.  Just a gut feeling I guess.  I'd rather see competent resources put into making in-person voting better/efficient/universal/etc.  National Holiday to start.  More polling locations.  Easier access to locations.  Etc.

I was you until I had the option.  It's one of the greatest thing ever to happen to our electoral process IMO.

"Universal vote by mail would be the end of the Republican Party as we know it."

To paraphrase Mitch McConnell.
