Correll Buckhalter fumble return for TD. (1 Viewer)

I just saw one replay, but it looked like it was a lateral to me. Any chance they will change this, and credit McNabb w/ passing yards and a passing TD instead of a fumble return.

What did it look like to everybody else? Was it a lateral or was it a fumble? How is the ruling determined? Intent of the one who possessed the ball, or what?

Yes, there is a chance that the NFL will change it. These types of reviews are done all the time, but it will take a few days. Wednesday, maybe.

The QB and original receiver get credit for a completed pass, but the second receiver (Buckhalter) receives rushing yards and the TD.

I don't think McNabb will get the TD even if it's ruled a lateral.

Is fumble and fumble recovery TD the correct stat? I wasn't watching the game at the time but I heard from a friend that the announcers believed that it was a designed play. Even if it wasn't designed, it was clearly a lateral.

Remember the Moss to Mo Williams TD couple of years ago, how about the Holt (i think) to Az Hakim lateral 3, 4 years ago? What were those counted as?

I really need that TD from McNabb to have a chance to win this weekend, so I'm very interested

Looked like a clear fumble and maybe at the last second he tried to tip it to CBuck. It was definately a fumble though.

It really does depend on the official ruling, a lateral and a fumble are scored differently.

Sure didn't look like a lateral to me. Just appeared to pop out of Reggie Brown's hands and Buckhalter was fortunate enough to get it without it hitting the ground.

It was a fumble. I think Browns motions in trying to grab it looked just like it would if he was making a lateral. A little deceiving to the eyes but it was clearly a fumble.

make up your mind buddy. either he never had possession, or he had possession and it was a fumble. if brown never had possession, it is just a passing td.

a lateral by NFL rule is a continuation of the play, so if it were a pass from McNabb, he'd get the points for the total yards of the play and the TD, if they rule it's a lateral. R.Brown would get the receiving yards to the point he lateralled, then Buck would get a receiving TD and the yards from the point he got the handoff.

I didn't think it was completed until Buckhalter caught the ball. It should be overturned. It was not a fumble. If it ended up hitting the ground, I guarantee they would have ruled it an incomplete pass. I'm hoping McNabb gets the TD.
