Cosell Draft Tease - Mindbending Already! (1 Viewer)

NFL Films guru Greg Cosell does not have USC LT Matt Kalil among the first 10 picks in his mock draft.

Cosell has cautioned that the "explanations (will be) more important than the actual picks" in the mock draft he's set to release on Monday, but it's still an extremely interesting opinion from one of the football media's biggest film junkies. The odds Kalil falls out of the top 10 on Thursday are near, if not, zero.
Going solely by "on-field play," NFL Films guru Greg Cosell ranks LSU's Morris Claiborne as only the third-best cornerback in this season's draft class.

Cosell made the revelation as part of a tease for his mock draft, which will be released on Monday. He didn't divulge whom he had ranked ahead a player widely considered this year's top corner, but our best guesses are South Carolina's Stephon Gilmore and Alabama's Dre Kirkpatrick. North Alabama's Janoris Jenkins is also a possibility. Despite the surprising opinion of a highly-respected draftnik, Claiborne remains the overwhelming favorite to be the first corner off the board.
Gonna be fun to see.

I won't be surprised if Cosell puts Jenkins ahead of Claiborne. He already tweeted that he thinks Jenkins is better based solely on on the field play. If Jenkins is really falling out of the 1st then all the reason more for the Vikings to go with Kalil.

I can buy that Jenkins is the #1 CB based on game tape. He is an elite player but has loads of baggage. No way he goes in the top 10, but he is a steal at 15 or later IMO.

Kalil being outside of the top 10 is silliness. Even if you aren't sold he is the best T in many years, he is still easily the best T in this draft and one of the elite players as well. I just don't get that ranking at all.

:lmao: at Gilmore with the 3rd pick and Dontari Poe not even going in the 1st round
what a valuable post. thanks for that.i don't see how the guy going out on a limb and sticking to his guns in what he sees in players is hilarious... would you rather have another mock just like the rest of them? also, did you read his reasoning behind the picks? did you read the preface? i really don't understand the humor, at all. many people are are skeptical about poe's production in college. a workout warrior with a nice skill set doesn't always equal production... you're probably right he'll go in the first but i think it's beside the point.cosell isn't the only one high on gilmore - as we get closer to the draft there's talk of multiple scouts and teams (Jags) that have gilmore as the best CB in the draft.ETA: mock drafts are a matter of opinion... if you disagree with them, how about instead of :lmao: or  we actually discuss it and add some value to the stagnant board.

Disappointed that he didn't offer any explanation as to why he has M.Floyd going ahead of J.Blackmon.
He thinks he's an all around better receiver that has more explosiveness and can beat coverage on the outside better than Blackmon. And it seems like that belief is held by a decent number of the draft gurus that I follow on Twitter.

I agree with him about Poe.

Off the charts combine numbers coupled with horrible production playing against way under top level competition = huge risk of bust.

The Dontari Poe craze reminds me of the Jarron Gilbert thing. Too bad there aren't many pools to jump out of on the football field.

:goodposting: After taking the time to read Cosell's criteria, it was refreshing to see a mock that isn't just regurgitated duplication based on dream scenarios where these so called experts are picking based on the juicy story it creates instead of what a team needs. Getting a mock from a guy with bonafide expertise is insightful. Seeing people call the guyout who has the Hands-Down most credibility in evaluating players based on film is puzzling.

What makes him Hands-down the most credible guy evaluating players based on film?

What makes him Hands-down the most credible guy evaluating players based on film?
cosell is a (the?) senior producer of NFL films - he makes films of the game and has access to likely the most expansive NFL tape collection on the planet. nfl film is his life. i think if there was anyone who could recognize NFL talent it would be him... just a hunch.ETA: but again, i think it's beside the point. mock drafts are a matter of opinion... no one can predict what teams are going to do with 100% accuracy. i think it's great when some people think outside the box and mix things up a bit. we all know there will be surprises this weekend.
