The love for Jags WRs is a little too high right now. I'm waiting for the pads and hitting and first string D to bring it. I feel like I could paste an article in here where Jones, Reggie, Wilford, Walker, Northcutt, or(now) Sharon are doing great and probably a starter. It's a little too thick right now, we need some reality added to these reports.Thanks for posting. It is nice to hear about such a guy

What bothers me is that Wilford is probably their best threat, but they don't use him enough. When he sees the field and is thrown to, he puts up far superior stats than Jones, Williams, etc.

It's nuts here in Jacksonville. 7 guys playing for 5 roster spots and only Nothcutt seems a sure pick. Beyond that who starts is completely up in the air because Northcutt is likely wr3 in the slot. Preseason should be fun.

Impact: When asked where they stood at this point, the coach answered "they don't stand at the front of the line." He went on to mention that they won't have an advantage simply because they're former first-round picks. It sounds like Del Rio could be trying to motivate his young wideouts.

I like Reggie Williams a lot for this season. Just look at his stats with Leftwich at QB. Walker is a project still coming back from a knee injury, Broussard probably won't be a factor. I see Jones being the same guy as last year too. Brossard and Wilford are the two that clearly look like they are on that roster bubble. I think Sharon will be cut for sure.

Again, I think Williams is the only of those 7 worth owning in most leagues.

That's what happens when you get a punch of young average receivers with so called potential. You want to hang on to them so that you don't throw away anything that turns out to be a star one day but in the meantime you need to be better so you entertain more. After a handful of years of doing this you get a bunch of mediocre players.

To me, this sounded like one of those things a coach tells the media to motivate his players. It tells me that more likely than not, the two guys he is expecting to step up are in fact Jones and Williams. This is intended to send them a message. Do you really think some guy who was an undrafted FA last year and has never seen the field is going to start over Williams, Jones, Wilfort, or Northcutt? It is so implausible that I can only assume he is trying to motivate the real starters.

I don't think it's really *THAT* muddled.

Wilford - Mediocre player. No reason to think he leapfrogs Jones and Williams this year.

Northcutt - Never been more than average. Probably a slot guy.

Walker - Has a third round WR ever had a good rookie season? Even in the age of Colston and Boldin, I still think it's best to expect limited returns from this guy during his first year.

That leaves Jones and Williams as the only Jag WRs worth drafting in a redraft. Neither guy has been in the league long enough to prove he truly sucks, so I think it's possible we could see a 1,000 yard season from one of these two. I personally prefer Williams. He's a decent gamble as an FF WR5 in 12 team leagues.

That said, keep in mind that some teams don't produce a single consistently startable FF WR (Minnesota, San Francisco, Cleveland, Miami, Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Tennessee in 2006). Jacksonville could be one of those teams again next season.

Don't get to worried yet. Both of these guys Williams and Jones are to talented and to young to be cut and given up on already. It is not as if they have been busts in their young careers; sure expectations were higher, but to be cut would mean they are giving up on young first round WR's who haven't been all bad. I think this is more scare tactics than anything. With the exception of injury problems, I can't see how Jax would be down on Jones. The guy played QB in college and has had a descent start to his WR career learning as he goes.

"Dennis Northcutt was brought in here to fill a role (slot receiver), and he's exactly what we thought we were getting. Tony Pashos was brought in here to fill a role (right tackle). We think he's exactly what we thought we were getting,'' Del Rio said. Among the other players Del Rio mentioned in a positive light were wide receiver Ernest Wilford, cornerback Dee Webb, defensive end James Wyche and tight end Greg Estandia. Conversely, wide receivers Reggie Williams and Matt Jones, first-round picks in 2004 and 2005, respectively, were hurt much of the offseason and are under pressure to stay healthy and perform well in camp if they're to make the team. He didn't play in a single game last season but he seems to have caught Del Rio's eye in a big way. At least for now.

Unless a light goes on for Leftwich this season, all the talk about the Jags WR's will be a bit of a waste. Even their #1 will be, at best, a fantasy #2 WR. More likely a WR3.
