Well now that the Dallas season is over, Miami's off season can continue...we might have had to wait till the Super Bowl, thank God Parcells can get back to business now.

With the outstanding job he did with that O line with all the missed blocks and penalties miami can have him.

He could be good as gone tomorrow, but the Tuna could throw a curve ball out there yet.
Jerry Jones may just whack out Wade Phillips and promote Sparano.
lol Wade is staying put and Sparano is on his way to Miami. and as far as the false starts go, I think Joe Buck is right - Floz may have a lot of false starts, but he allows very little sacks on his side. He kept Umenyiora in check pretty much all game as he did with all the top tier defensive ends Dallas faced this season.

Mike Tice is scheduled to interview with Parcells today.

I'm hoping this is just to satisfy the "idiot quota" in the Rooney rule.

One would think it will become "official" in 24-48 hours if it's indeed been in the works for a few weeks as conjectured. Sparano would have to go to Miami for another meeting, hammer out contract details and then make the announcement.

Realistically, it would be hard to imagine he won't take the job IF Parcells really favors him. His reputation is gleaming right now b/c of the way the Cowboys offensive line jelled, and the running game produced. Parcells knows him personally and, in typical Parcells ego fashion, has probably convinced himself that Sparano was a larger part of THIS year's success than the reality. Sparano isn't that young yet he was never really on the radar until getting the co-coordinator gig under Tuna in Big D. And, let's face it, there's no way Sparano is going to be given the credit for what happens in Dallas by most people as long as Jason Garrett is there.

Seriously? Why is Miami bringing in Tice? Great guy and all, but he is not a Parcell guy. Why is Parcell doing the interviewing? Isn't the Gm doing the hiring

Tice has ties to the Tuna from what I read. Tice went to Parcells for some advice while he was running the Choke Vikes.

"Ireland on way to Dallas to pick up Sparano

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland is on his way to Dallas to pick up Cowboys assistant and future Dolphins coach Tony Sparano."

Wonder what other coaches will be leaving with him, and if Garrett leaves for the Ravens? Wade could be looking at huge turnover in his staff. Does Cam Cameron become the OC for the Cowboys if they have an opening?

Depends on whether Wade and Cameron got along in San Diego (can anyone confirm that one way or another?)

"While Parcells is raiding the Cowboys coaching staff, he might also pilfer secondary coach Todd Bowles, defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers and linebackers coach Paul Pasqualoni. Their contracts have expired."

The Dolphins made this decision the day Parcells was hired in my opinion.

Any idea who they will target at QB? Parcells was able to win with a QB WAY worse than Lemon, in Quincy Cocainer. f

Code:
The Dolphins will be a 10 win team in 2 years in my opinion as well.

I think Jeff Ireland will have a mandate to be creative in the QB department. It stands to reason the first order of business is evaluating Beck and Lemon to see if either pass muster. Remember, Tony Romo was an undrafted free agent buried on the Cowboys bench when, incredulously, Parcells started saying he might give the Cowboys a better chance to win than Drew Bledsoe (a guy that Parcells drafted 1st overall mind you). The next order of business will be drafting at least one young QB to groom. Whether the team will look at free agency likely comes down to serendipity. There aren't too many veteran QB options expected to be available, but as cap casualties start emerging, that could change quickly.

It's official - Miami fans can breathe a sigh of relief at Mike Tice not being hired to be the HC

"FOX Sports has learned that the Dolphins have tabbed Dallas assistant coach Tony Sparano as their new head coach, replacing the fired Cam Cameron.

Dolphins officials this morning phoned the other candidates who interviewed and informed them of the team's decision.

Sparano was thought to be the heavy favorite from the day Bill Parcells was hired and that speculation mounted when Parcells hired Jeff Ireland away from Dallas to be the team's new GM. "

I'm glad they went with Sparano - at the very least Parcells will give him a little more rope than someone he does not know and a little more time to get "their" players in town and their scheme in place.

Miami will have a top-10 defense again within 2 years and will have a 10-win season in 2010. This will NOT be a fast turnaround, IMO. I expect another tough year next year, then mediocrity, then the Parcells bump in year three.

P.S. - good link ooofffaaa. In the papers up here in Beantown, they only reported that he was in town again for a 2nd interview and was the front runner for the job.

So long sparano, hope you bring that same blocking scheme you had going for you against the Giants. Dont let the door hit you in the rear on your way out the door.

:moneybag:I'm sure Jerry Jones will implement his own blocking scheme next year.

Agreed. It will be another tough year next year but at least now we're heading in the right direction. I'm hoping for some stability over the next few years. It might be time to take the bag of my avatar's head.

Next year, I think the Dolphins could be a "terrific looking" 6-10. They really just needed some positive direction and a sense that someone upstairs and someone else on the sidelines knows where they were going with the team and they could have had at least 4 or 5 more wins this year.

There is a core of about 30-35 players they will keep, maybe less if they ditch old wood this year (something they may do given their need for cap space and parcells' desire for vets at key spots). They are another offseason away from being able to make a free agency splash and when they do, that is when they will make their run. I am not sure what Parcells will do about QB, but I am sure he will pursue a veteran. If available, a last-legs smart QB like Steve McNair is not outside the realm of possibilities.

Finally, waiting for the Pats to age two or three years might also be in the team's best interest

Dolphins hire Sparano as head coach, replacing Cameron

By Len Pasquarelli

ESPN.com

Updated: January 16, 2008, 11:00 AM ET

Dallas Cowboys assistant head coach Tony Sparano is the new Miami Dolphins head coach.

The two sides on Wednesday morning completed work on what ESPN.com has confirmed is a four-year contract worth about $2.5 million to $2.7 million per year.

Not counting the interim tenure of Jim Bates in 2004, Sparano becomes the sixth head coach in franchise history. In his first NFL head coaching job, Sparano inherits a team that won just one game in 2007; has obvious holes on the offensive side, including uncertainty at quarterback; and an aging defense.

On the positive side, the Dolphins own the top overall selection in the 2008 draft, and can either exercise it to choose a top-shelf prospect, or perhaps trade the choice for additional picks in the lottery. Sparano also will be surrounded by a strong support group of front-office executives he knows well.

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland, who most recently worked in the Dallas personnel department as vice president of college and pro scouting, is familiar with Sparano and his coaching style. And Dolphins vice president of football operations Bill Parcells hired Sparano as an assistant when Parcells was the Dallas head coach.

Sparano, 46, also interviewed for the head coach openings in Atlanta and Baltimore.

Although he has worked in the league only nine seasons, Sparano is widely respected for his offensive acumen and his demeanor with the players. Before joining the Dallas staff in 2003, Sparano was on the staffs of Cleveland (1999-2000), Washington (2001), and Jacksonville (2002).

Before landing his first NFL position, Sparano worked 15 years in the college ranks and was head coach at New Haven from 1994 to 1998.

He worked primarily with the Cowboys' offensive line this season. But when Parcells was the coach, Sparano had much broader responsibilities. Although he didn't hold the title of coordinator, Sparano called the team's plays in 2006. Parcells is known to hold Sparano in high regard.

Sparano is expected to pursue several current Dallas assistant coaches, some of whose contracts with the Cowboys have expired, for key positions on his staff.
