Cowboys : a colossal disappointment (1 Viewer)

Many things can be pointed to, but the blame lies on several critical errors made throughout the entire game. Mentioning them at this time will only make me feel worse so please spare me spelling it out.....

The Giants even gave them a sporting chance to win, but the Cowboys continually fell short.

I am also left wondering why Owens wasn't more involved in the game in the second half as he appeared healthy.

As a Cowboys fan I must say I was hoping for more.

I could have even taken a loss from a team with equivalent talent, but to lose to the NYG's adds embarassment to the disappointment.

It kills me how long it's been since this team has won a playoff game. The last two playoffs have been nearly unbearable.

What can we do but hope for improvement next year?

it sure looks like they just peaked too early this year. The last month they have not been very impressive. Still, they had a nice season overall.

I thought TO was still hurting, but he played better than I expected, so maybe he's ok? Or maybe he's just among the most competitive players in the league?

Indianapolis was the bigger disappointment today. The Giants are able to beat anyone if they aren't beating themselves.

So what do you think will happen if Jason Garrett gets a head coaching offer ? Does Jerry Jones fire Wade Phillips using this game and the play of the Cowboys in December as a 'reason' ? I would think it would be ridiculous to fire a coach after a 13 -3 season but then again this is the NFL and Marty was fired after a 14-2 season.

Some of the print and radio media here in DFW thinks Jones will just throw enough money at Garrett to make him stay with the understanding he is the next head coach at some future date. I don't think Garret would go to a team that did not have a good, young QB already.

I dont know how the cowboys are anymore disappointing then the colts. Cowboys had played poorly the last month so its not suprising. Hell, everyone predicted the Giants to win the game anyway. The colts were predicted to blow SD out? So who is more disappointing?

Since I'm a Cowboys fan, THIS was the most disappointing to ME.Both were equivalent "shockers", the lines were similar.I also don't like Phillip Rivers, so I guess now I will root for NE to play GB.

I agree but i had a bad feeling about this team the past month, Dallas playing this bad was easy to predict. All those penalties at home and giving up a TD drive with 47 seconds? you cant over come that. Go NE!!

As a KC fan, this loss by Dallas reminds me of several 13-3 teams KC had in 1995, 1997 and 2003 and got beat @ home by lesser teams. Dallas will now be 12 seasons and no playoff wins -- pretty similar to KC actually.

I will say this - to the real Cowboys fans you showed a lot this year. I have never been more impressed with Owens as a teamate, Romo did a lot of great things (though he came up a bit short in this game, the guy was mashed on every play late in the game) and the team was one of the leagues best.

To the Johnny Come 1990s'leys, I'll enjoy every minute of this.

They DO have a great team, and I expect them to be back in the playoffs next year. Hopefully as a team who can finish well. Most of their important stars are young with the exception of Owens, so they should be around for awhile. :ptts:

Lack of discipline was their undoing today.
That's Wade's specialty too....Id
Cool, is this where we start pointing fingers? lolLets just give the giants some credit here.
The NYG's are over their head already. Next week will prove it.
The Giants are not that much less talented a team than the Cowboys, and their Pass Rush proved to be enough of a difference maker come late along with making enough plays on offense. The Giants never looked "over their head" today whatsoever.

The extra week(s) off seems to be hurting the top teams. Dallas and Indy both loss, Green Bay gets behind by 2 TDs immediately and NE had a tough game. I use to think the extra week of rest was a benefit, but with the talent of NFL today, the top teams are not that much better than the next tier of teams, so by not playing for 2 to 3 weeks (weeks 16&17 are a rest week for some of the top teams too), the #1 seeds are not playing in sinc and the results are showing. I know if would be foolish to loose your top players in a meaningless game, but losing in the 1st or 2nd week of the playoffs has got to have these teams start to re-evaluate how they play the final weeks of the regular season.

No, they out played dallas for sure. Whats disappointing to me is how bad dallas played. If they even have an "average" game i think they win. They looked like junk defensively, special teams and with all those penalties they deserved the loss.

Dallas made some crucial mistakes (key penalties and those drops were killers), but I dont think they played that bad - and where they played bad I think the Giants had something to do with it... late int he game. For 2.5 quarters the Giants could NOT stop third down, but Eli really looked good when he needed to deliver... at the end they got a bit conservative for my taste, but had Dallas made a couple less mistakes, the Giants still would have had a very good chance to win considering how Eli looked when they were looking to pass. Once again, I believe Dallas is the slightly better team, but it is a lot closer than many give credit for - and if the Giants pass rush gets going, that alone is a huge difference maker.

Over-rated!clap clap clap-clap-clap

The 800 pound gorilla that nobody is talking about is replacing the disciplinarian Parcells with the "players coach" Wade, resulting in the number 1 seed in the NFC losing due to poor tackling, sloppy routes, communication breakdowns, temper tantrums, side-arm throws, etc.

NYG is a very good football team, and I'm not trying to take anything away from them but the Boys did not show up today.

Skip Bayless calls TO "Team Obliterator". Maybe Clayface Jones is playing into the obliteration by institutionalizing the players coach mentality into the organization.

Odds that TO is on ESPN tomorrow talking about how Romo missed him on the wide open cross?

TO has been all over TV just now and has been very conciliatory toward and supportive of Romo.

Ok, today, they didn't look it. Dallas managed to mess up enough times to cloud the picture somewhat. But me thinks they should enjoy the feeling they have right now, it should last less than a week. Also, the fact that NE "gets" the privilege of playing SD instead of IND is sickening. SD beat IND today but IND is a better team and would have given NE a better game. I don't think either SD or NYG have what it takes to play consistently at the "top tier". The fact that they are considered "hot" right now helps their longshot cause....BUT.....just like we saw today, once the ball is snapped it's still anyone's game. :fishing:

I hope he sticks with that story, as it will be a good sign that he is maturing...

He pretty much needs to, Dallas will likley be his last stop, I give him about 2 more years of top 10 productivity.

He was even weeping. Apparently even TO understands that he's run out of "throw my QB under the bus" passes . . .

Oh, I will enjoy it for this week. Don't expect to win next week especially because of the weather. Giants match up with Dallas better imo because the familiarity and mild weather. But winning last week was necessary for a "decent-good" season. With this win, its a very good-great season for the Giants and if SOMEhow they can win this week, would be unreal. But beating Dallas and getting two wins int he playoffs is a fantastic year no matter what.

I don't remember the exact quotes but best part of TO interview: "Do you feel closer to Tony than your other quarterbacks?"TO: "I have always stood by my quarterbacks. I have always had their backs." :towelwave:

Certainly the Cowboys did NOT outplay them today. The Cowboys just didn't play like they did the first 2/3rd's of the season. The Giants played a good game and the Cowboys simply underperformed.

Tonight hurt, and after I sober up, I will reflect and look towards next season.

It is good to be a Cowboy fan again, I would have killed for this feeling during the 5-11 seasons.

Agreed.

That really, really sucked. I've made it a point to go to bars that only served beer for Cowboys playoff games the last several years and it paid off yet again. Now that I'm home and drinking whiskey, it's going to be an ugly night. And probably a worse day for my staff tomorrow.

Hey buddy. Jessica may not survive the night.

If TO had decided to not hold the team hostage and force Parcells out of town last year, they'd be looking at an NFC championship game this year.
