Playing at home on prime-time TV.

On Monday night, Troy Williamson, Travis Taylor, and co. combined for five (5) receiptions of 20 yards or more, including a 20-yard TD where MRob outran CB Carlos Rogers. The Vikings receivers aren't in the same league as Owens and Glenn.

Not only will the Redskins be without injured safety Pierson Prioleau, but Shawn Springs is also unlikely to play:

REDSKINS NOTEBOOK

Injuries Leave Holes in Secondary

Safety Pierson Prioleau hobbled out of Redskins Park on crutches yesterday afternoon, his season ended by a freakish knee injury on the opening kickoff of the season Monday night. Cornerback Shawn Springs left the facility walking well, but is still recovering from abdominal surgery last month and said he does not believe he will be able to play Sunday night in Dallas.

The Washington Redskins stand to be short two of their top defensive backs against the Dallas Cowboys, and the secondary struggled in a 19-16 loss to Minnesota without them. Prioleau left the game after the opening kickoff with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee; he was not touched on the play but turned awkwardly to avoid a Viking. Prioleau plays a key role as the fifth defensive back in many passing situations, and with him out, Mike Rumph, who was acquired a few weeks ago, was thrust into that position. The Redskins will put Prioleau on injured reserve, Coach Joe Gibbs said, opening a roster spot to add depth to the secondary.

"When you put in a year's worth of hard work -- all the offseason and training camp work -- you feel like part of the family," said Prioleau, in his second year with the Redskins. "And you feel almost like you let the guys down when you're not out there trying to get a win with them."

Springs, a former Pro Bowler, underwent surgery about four weeks ago and said he is encouraged by his progress, but did not believe it would be possible for him to play this weekend. Gibbs said he was hopeful Springs might return.

"I'm not nearly where I want to be," Springs said. "Hopefully, relatively soon I will be. When we opted to have the surgery, we knew I wouldn't be here for the first couple of games, so we've got to just keep working on it."

Washington will likely look to add depth to the secondary this week. Without its premier talent back there, the Redskins rarely blitzed, while the Vikings had great success downfield. Besides starting safeties Adam Archuleta and Sean Taylor, the team has only undrafted rookie Reed Doughty and journeyman Vernon Fox, signed late in the preseason, on the roster.
I'm actually considering benching Randy Moss so that I can start Glenn alongside Owens. I'm guessing at least a couple hundred yards and 2 TDs between them. Anyone else share my optimism?

Prioleau was NOT one of the Redskins top two defensive backs. Not on this planet. Nice special teams player, in Nickel packages sometimes, and Safety depth, thats about it...

The Redskins tend to over blitz and bring Taylor too close to the LOS. I would expect 1 long play to TO or Glenn.

Just my $0.02.

I also expect a tight and ugly game.

Skins secondary is weak right now. As long as Springs is out, I'd start top wr's against the Skins with confidence. TO is going to torch them sunday night. Might end up being a close game but I see the Cowboy wr's as must starts. Skins have no pass rush and Rumph and Wright coulnd't cover my 74 year old mother.

Losing Prioleau was big. He was going to get quite a bit of playing time in various packages with Springs out. Secondary was one of the areas they needed to remain healthy and so far it's not looking good.

Of course Bledsoe is just terrible and that could be the equalizer in this game.

Well, that was the case last year. With Springs out, they rarely blitzed the other night. What they usually do is have the corners playing man and then bring the house with everybody else. You won't see as much of that with Springs out. btfw-most teams with good d's "over blitz". Take a look at Pittsburgh and Baltimore. It's not a bad thing if you have guys who can cover 1 on 1.

Springs being out hurts them, no doubt, and restricts what they can do on blitzes because they tend to like to free up blitzers by putting the CB's in single coverage. (Taylor, BTW, rarely blitzes and is more often used up top as a rangy FS closing on balls in the air; when he overcommits its because he reads run too strongly, not because he's blitzing.) They scaled back the blitz against Minny, although that was against a WCO with an experienced QB taking short drops for the most part . . . and behind what appears to be a good to very good o-line. The word on Bledsoe is that if you hit him early he'll start becoming aware of the rush and will make bad decisions with the ball. This is particularly inviting given that the o-line is the weakness of that offense. Also, the 'Skins defense under Williams has been more physical against TO than any other team I know of. I don't think that this is going to be a cakewalk, but I do think that the WR's are going to be the guys on the Cowboys offense to start.

Talk to Joe Gibbs and Gregg Williams and they will not agree with you about all of this. With Springs out, he damn well might be one of their top 2 dbs'. THey are extremely weak back there and couldn't afford this loss. Take a look at what' s back there. THe kid from Auburn doesn't know the position and is not a very good tackler. Rumph and Wright are bums. Archuletta can't cover.

First off relax.Secondly, even the commentators on Monday noticed that Taylor was "up" alot. Taylor can be "play actioned" from time to time and get beat deep. With quality WR's like Glenn and TO, it's not unreasonable to think that they won't give up at least 1 deep ball. That's all I'm saying, did I cross a line???

What on earth are you talking about? Rogers looked out of sorts on Monday and had a bad game, but he was finishing last year before his injury in the AZ game as an excellent corner and has always been willing to hit and able to wrap up. I think he's on his way to being a top CB. The problem in he secondary isn't Rogers or Taylor, it's Archuleta and Rumph, Wright and Jimoh at the other CB spot. I don't like those guys matched up against Glenn.

you some kind of last place expert, my bird-brained pal?
Yeah. I know a last place team when I see one. Looking at the Eagles last year I saw a last place team.Looking at the Redskins this year I see a last place team.

 :bag: show me your post after game one where you said the Eagles would be a last place team coming off a super bowl loss.

Hard to predict the Cowboys success by looking at the Vikes. Dallas WR are WAY better than Minn., but BJohnson is WAY better than Bledsoe. The passes BJ was making were thrown quickly and accurately, something Bledsoe hasn't been able to do in years. While the Dallas WRs will be open it is hard to say whether Bledsoe will still be standing or, if he is, throwing the ball to guys in red instead of white.
