Crayton said the team let Dez Bryant get away with a lot of stuff (1 Viewer)

Speaking on the radio on Friday afternoon, former Cowboys, and current Chargers, receiver Patrick Crayton said the team let rookie receiver Dez Bryant "get away with a lot of stuff" in 2010.

"Hopefully whoever they bring in as receivers coach, and they say (Jason) Garrett is a disciplinarian, won't let him get away with so much stuff," Crayton said. "He'll get locked down and hopefully be the next Michael Irvin." Braynt did appear to be coddled at times by former head coach Wade Phillips, like many Cowboys were, but it never sounded like a true concern. More than likely, Crayton is just expressing some of the bitterness he routinely displayed at losing his spot in the Cowboys' receiver rotation last summer. He's got better things than Bryant to worry about this offseason, namely sticking in San Diego.

Just sounds like sour grapes to me, but there probably is some truth to it.

The world isn't a fair place.

The better players will always get a longer leash and dime a dozen players like Crayton will always resent it.

Don't think this is news. Wasn't Crayton cut before the season? If so, he wouldn't know anything beyond that point in time, and we already know that Dez refused to carry pads and had that whole fiasco during training camp.

 Even Parcells let LT get away with stuff he wouldn't put up with from a less talented player.

Everyone only remembers bit and pieces of the story.

Dez sat a year because he lied about practicing with Deion. (Seriously most people think it's because he played w/ Deion. That wasn't what the suspension read) Pacman had a tryout and a slew of NFL WRs were brought in along with Dez. Dez was far and away the best and the only NFL WR that wasn't shut down by Pacman. (Pacman's career began again because he showed he had his act together) Dez worked out with Gresham and Bradford and just a whole slew of players in the state of Oklahoma. Scouts drooled and well we now know why they did. All up to the draft everyone is saying Dez is trouble like Moss or T.O. or somesuch and ummm when did that happen? When did he do any of that type stuff?

Shortly before the draft. Dez and his mother were sooo insulted by some Dolphin idiot.

Dez almost completely shut his mouth. Every other kid in the NFL draft got to be celebrated in their hometown and here's one of the best players in OkSU history and he doesn't get to because all of his advisors have told him to keep quiet and that he is falling so super fast in the draft it's costing him millions.

Cowboys get one of the steals in the draft.

Dez shows up in jaw dropping shape-feel free to google for quotes.

Roy Williams gets grumpy that someone says Dez is the hardest working wide receiver maybe even cowboy. An awesome sorta pride thing goes on where many of them are working out moreso than they ever did.

Dez had done some janitorial things. He had fetched water. He did something with the chairs in the film room.

He stayed late, came in early.

The guy was trying so hard to be the perfect NFL player.

All the work is paying off and it's clear that someone (Roy or Austin) is likely going to lose their starting spot and never get it back. As many of us expected, it seemed to be Roy. After Dez was impressive in yet another practice THEN it's "carry my shoulder pads".

And Dez is like umm hold on there. He can't say because I did better than you? But instead says how he did X did Y did Z and nonono enough's enough I'm putting my rookie grudge work in, go pick on another rook. I mean one radio guy (Galloway?) said they asked him to make beds and he did.

The Cowboys problem was Dez trying oh so hard to change this all of a sudden bad reputation and them having to police the vets from taking advantage of him. Crayton can go suck an egg or whatever is a phrase that's OK here. That is exactly what Dez has had to deal with.

Dez is a totally normal good guy. He was never this bad person people made him out to be. He's no "angel" like Bradford is, but who really is? Cmon now.

Dez was enlightening for me. As Galloway pointed out, some of these guys don't come into the NFL as divas but the NFL actually makes them divas or whiners etc.

Feel free to go get me some bad teammate quotes on google or some times that one of the coaches complained about his work ethic or his attendance or how about a "throw me the darn ball" quote.

This is soooo a normal guy getting a bad rep and working his tail off to try and prove it not true. I doubt there is even one Cowboy that thinks poorly of Dez as a few bad apples in the press would have you believe.

And if you don't remember likely NFL HOFer Deion Sanders told this young pup not to admit to anything, they'll never be able to prove it. He was a college kid, of course he's going to listen to Deion.
