Curtis Martin to officially retire (1 Viewer)

echoing others, while not a surprise,

i still feel bad about the way everything unfolded last year and he ssuddenly disappeared without any opportunity for fan appreciation.

Here, here Mr. Martin. Absolutely my favorite player in the history of the NFL. Class act, incredible running style...hard not to love the guy.

 HOF career for sure....
:goodposting: -Went over 1,200 yards (which is much more of an accomplishment nowadays than 1,000 yards) in 7 of his 11 seasons-Three top 2 finishes in rushing yards, including leading the league in rushing once-Eight top 10 finishes in yards from scrimmage-100 total touchdowns-Was a productive postseason performerYep, he is a definite HoFer.

One of the good guys of the game. Many of these thugs playing today could have stood to learn a thing or two from CMart.

To be fair, he wasn't ready to play, so it's not like he was totally muscled aside. He'll certainly get his due at one of the home games this year.

Perhaps the most under appreciated RB in history. Totally classy. Always played hurt. Top Notch character guy. He will be missed.

I don't think he was underappreciated as much as he was genuinely neither here nor there about the limelight. Since he was adored in Pittsburgh, New England, NY, and NJ we're talking about a higher population considerring him "their boy" than really anyone I can think of previously. I think his demeanor was reciprocated by the press and have always found that fascinating.Walter Payton's soft voice, demeanor, work ethic, style of play etc was something Curtis idolized and while I knew neither, somehow I think Sweetness would have appreciated Curtis' career; it's a shame Sweetness passed away because hearing something like that would have surely made Curtis the happiest person even if just for a day.

Oh, I don't think he was muscled aside at all. It's just that after the previous season there was an expectation that he would be ready and be back. And then he was never seen or heard from. At the opposite end of the spectrum from "the other NY RB", where the talk of his retirement started only a few weeks into his last season.

Agreed. Obviously, that seemed to be his style - staying out of the limelight. Still, it was clear from comments by Leon Washington that Curtis was ever-present in terms of Leon's development.
