Cutler sending Broncos a signal? (1 Viewer)

madd futher

Footballguy
I see a strong signal being sent here. Per Denver Post headline: "On the move? Cutler puts his house up for sale"

With off-season workouts scheduled next week at Dove Valley and uncertainty about whether Jay Cutler will show up, the quarterback on Thursday put his multi-million dollar Parker house up for sale.

According to records found by The Denver Post, Cutler's 7,516-square-foot house on nearly 1-1/2 acres is advertised for sale at $2 million, the real estate listing says. Cutler bought the house in 2006 for $1.34 million.

EDIT: UPDATED FOR A PRIOR STORY (from ESPN's Bill Williamson):

After a contentious conference call between quarterback Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos' brass on Monday, the situation has gone "from bad to worse," according to a source close to the situation.

The call was supposed to be a meeting of the minds between Cutler and the Broncos' brass, in particular new head coach Josh McDaniels. The two got sideways Feb. 28 when word broke that McDaniels, the former New England offensive coordinator who replaced Mike Shanahan after 14 seasons, engaged in discussions about acquiring Matt Cassel from the Patriots in a three-way trade. Cutler had maintained the Broncos initiated the talks. McDaniels [had] publicly said he was approached about a deal.

The conference call was anything but genial and the two sides are now further apart than prior to it, the source said. The source added that the Broncos' tone of the conference call was as if Cutler created the situation by asking for the trade and not the other way around.

A Broncos source with knowledge of the discussions said that the two sides did not grow further apart in Monday's conference call and that issues were discussed openly and it was re-emphasized to Cutler he will not be traded.

The first source said McDaniels wouldn't confirm or deny whether the Broncos initiated the trade talks. The Broncos did, though, tell Cutler that every player on the team could be traded and he could be traded at any time. Still, Denver owner Pat Bowlen also stated in the conversation that Cutler will not be traded. The Broncos publicly said Cutler will not be traded last week as the Cutler trade frenzy was in full force.

After the phone call, the first source said Cutler would rather be traded now if Denver isn't going to commit to him long term. The first source maintains Cutler was totally on board with McDaniels until the trade talks story broke and that trust is Cutler's biggest problem with McDaniels and the organization. The first source said Cutler is still mulling over whether he will show up for the team's offseason conditioning program, which begins Monday.

My personal observation - I doubt he will show up at Dove Valley for "voluntary off-season conditioning".

My god Jay, grow a sack. I'm hoping he is just selling because he wants/needs to, and not because of this petty BS.

First of all, no way that house is worth 75% more than it was 2 years ago....

Second, this is the first thing that I have seen that makes me look at Cutler in a negative light.

The water feature he put in cost $300,000.00. I'm certain there were other substantial upgrades as well. He may actually have 2 million into it. Not saying its worth that, but the figure posted is misleading.

Theory: Deal is already in place, won't be completed or announced until draft day. This is what was discussed in the conference call.

McDaniels is so arrogant yet no a single Belichick assistant has been successful in the NFL. Amazing.

making sure player X is available at pick Y?this is total :tinfoilhat: stuff though
Doubtful (IMO) there's a "deal in place" considering how many leaks of info and *inside sources* flush this kind of news out. x2 organizations w/ something juicy like this.Local Denver radio is having a good time w/ this all afternoon.

Put me down on the side of Cutler here. Cutler feels very disrespected by McDaniels. I read somewhere that before the Cassel situation came up, Cutler had spent a few days holed-up with McDaniel learning the new offense and that they had gotten along well. Then the 'trade' situation came up and Cutler felt betrayed. The key line in the story to me is: The first source said McDaniels wouldn't confirm or deny [during the phone conversation] whether the Broncos initiated the trade talks.

Cutler is well respected in the Bronco's locker room. Josh McDaniels may THINK he's Bill Belichek, but he hasn't earned his stripes yet. His approach to this situation has been all wrong so far, if the above source is anywhere near correct. It sounds like McDaniels is 'tone deaf' to the reality of the situation. IMO, if McDaniels took a hard-line Bill Belichek approach to his franchise player, it was at minimum a rookie coaching mistake. Fix the defense, Josh, rather than make an authority statement to your star player and team leader. Now McDaniels could be in danger of 'losing the locker room', and effectively may have 'bought' himself a much bigger challenge: having to rebuild both the offense and the defense.

I'm thinking this was so mishandled by both McDaniels & Cutler that the Broncos have to deal Cutler for McDaniels to have any chance of success

The trade deal in place is an interesting theory but I would lean more with the kid here. In today's market with so many reporters vying for the scoop, I don't see how they could ever hope to keep that a secret that long.J

cool we need another cutler thread in the sp
It's the most interesting NFL story around now. I know it seriously affects my fantasy teams. As far as the house goes, anyone that's tried to sell one lately knows Cutler won't be moving that thing anytime soon. Especially asking that much more than he paid 2 years ago in a much better market. I'm guessing Cutler's agent knows that as well and this is just a ploy.

Okay, it looks like Cutler actually owns 3 properties in Denver and that he wanted to sell this house before this all went down and that this particular house IS NOT his primary residence. His other house is in Dove Valley closer to the Bronco's facility.

Is this the one near a country club? Because if it is, it makes perfect sense to leave the area...when you can no longer play golf there because you got kicked out.

I have been reading the responses by fans in Denver Post forums and multiple posts on there are reporting he has 2-3 houses in the Denver area and that the ones that are for sale are not his primarily residence but the one near Denver Facility in Dove valley is and that is one that he is keeping. The Denver Post has really been milking this thing for all they can.

I will keep looking for the actual link listing his total properties

here you go link

It soesn't really matter if the house he has for sale is his primary house. The timing of the listing was meant to send a signal IMO.

I agree. In addition to that, a lot of things can change between now and then. Any trade agreed upon now could easily fall apart if they wait that long to finalize it simply because one of the teams is no longer interested.

Is that Cherry Hills? If so, I don't think it was Cherry Hills. I do know it was near his home (didn't know he had more than one). Here's the (short) story, which I heard last fall and I have on good account. I guess I should preface it by saying I'm a Denver fan...Cutler joined a CC. He was not following some rules, and thought he could continue to act as he pleased. One day, he's hanging around with his hat backward and a T, which wasn't allowed, and he obviously knew as much. I don't know the specifics of the confrontation and/or issue(s) therein, but here's what happened. The President went and got a $100,000 check (his membership) and told him he was gone.Obviously, it took more than just the one incident to reach that point, which is telling. And I'm also sure that the franchise QB of the Denver Broncos had a longer leash than most to begin with. All of which tells me he indeed has an attitude problem.Since hearing that, I've looked at him a little differently, and these recent events only make sense to me. He is reminding me a bit of [gasp] Jeff George. The Broncos aren't going to come out and say it, but their actions speak volumes. He is a problem at the moment. Although, he is still young enough to get over it though, I hope.

Oh the horror. If thats all he did I give him a pass on that. Not very classy on his part but he's still young . If thats his major crime there the CC president comes off like Judge Smails

I agree helltoupee, but it's not about a "crime" as you say (lol), or getting shown the door at some cc. It's about character. He's kind of a doosh, the way he's acting. Or do you condone the crying game? I'm just wondering why the Denver brass are down on him. hes definitely cocky and has a big attitude ("I've got a better arm than John Elway"). but guess what? He has no reason or results for it. Let's be honest, Cutler thinks his #### don't stink. The attitude is over the top.. Do something first. again, Jeff George comes to mind, and i HATe saying thatl...Okay kid, youve got a gun... you get a free pass no matter what. And you're bigger than the coach of this team.I'm curious, what would you do, HT? what do you think Bowlen should do?

First of all, no way that house is worth 75% more than it was 2 years ago....

Second, this is the first thing that I have seen that makes me look at Cutler in a negative light.
The water feature he put in cost $300,000.00. I'm certain there were other substantial upgrades as well. He may actually have 2 million into it. Not saying its worth that, but the figure posted is misleading.
I've got a Brother-In-Law in the high-end Landscape business in Parker.The proposal was a design build....Cutler wanted lot'sa grass.

The water feature leaks....Cutler won't sell it based on that particular detailing.

My guess is that he's focusing on things other than his team-mates....those he deemed the "reason he plays the game."

What a DUD. :goodposting:

So the bigger question IMO is how should this effect his redraft ranking this year? At this point in time I have to think he gets dropped a few notches based on unknowns with his situation. If he ends up on a team like CHI it would kill his fantasy value even though it makes CHI a much better team.

The water feature does leak. Interesting.

Didn't the Broncos get Elway because he refused to play for the Colts? Obviously differing circumstances behind the demands, but interesting to me that they now may be on the other side of this with the player many viewed as their "next Elway,"

Has a head coach ever been fired before his first game? I ask in jest, but I'm actually curious if this has ever happened. If this is a sign of things to come from McDaniels, why should the Broncos wait?

To me, these types of situations illustrate the difference between a good head coach and a good coordinator. I have no idea why any coach would take over a decent team and turn it upside down that quickly.

In my judgement, these situations illustrate the difference between a professional football player, and someone you build your franchise around, and a PUNK. The guy's been behaving like an immature buffoon during this entire drama.

:pics: "resigned" before he coached for the Jets I believe.

Yes. After leaving the Redskins in 1977, George Allen was hired by Carroll Rosenbloom to coach the Rams (this was Allen's second stint with the organization). After veteran player complaints about his excessive conditioning drills and overlong practices, Allen was let go during the preseason and was replaced by DC Ray Malavasi.

:X From Sports Illustrated:

Cutler is known within the league for bouts of immaturity, cockiness and stubbornness, so the incident doesn't figure to be forgotten quickly.

Yes, it is too bad Cutler can't be more like Philip Rivers.Seriously, Cutler may be an immature buffoon, but he is in the driver's seat. He has been led to believe by the new HC and Denver ownership that he is no important than any other player - that his position as QB is just another little cog in the big wheel and he can be traded like any other player on the roster.

He believes he is an NFL franchise QB. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen, but Cutler is aware that there are other NFL franchises who believe that and would be willing to make him the face of their franchise.

The listing on his non-primary residence for sale is pure theater, but it makes the point that if McDaniels and Co. want to play hardball with him, he is up to the challenge.

What has Bowlen been doing throughout this whole episode?
Anyone?
I've caught wind of this in more than one place....so, it's in an official rumor stage.Belichek, being pissed at DEN raiding his team for FA's, intentionally upsets the McJay apple cart. He knows that the economics of a three way won't work and he knows that he doesn't want the salary freight that accompanies a low first round pick....BUT, he intentionally includes DEN in a three way in order to give McDaniel a taste of the behind the scenes mechanics of what it takes to be an NFL Coach.

McDaniel is naive and Xander is a newbie and they follow along, even though the up-front $'s paid out to Cutler never allow a trade of the type proposed.

The Owner....where's Bowlen? He follows along, too; knowing his neophyte has been screwed....new coach, NEW GM....he's been outfoxed before he even get's started.
