D-Day Then, and now (1 Viewer)

Nice, still a handful of vets heading over there for ceremonies this week. Sad that in the next 5 years or so we won't have many (if any) left. Hug a vet and tell em thanks!

I thought this was outstanding and enjoyed it very much,so much so I created another thread not being able to find this one but the search feature here is terrible so it was worth sharing twice!

Toured the uss North Carolina battleship last week in Wilmington nc. Met a vet who served on the ship as a gunner from 43-46. Amazing experience. They had a reunion. Only 19 left. His daughter was there and he showed her his exact bunk. So cool. She choked up telling us how much that meant. He flew in from Utah. Amazing guy. He was on the ships baseball team. They got 2 cases of beer for the games. He gave his away as he didn't drink. He had a lot of friends. :-)

Nice page, thanks for sharing.

Don't mean to hijack but thought this was cool to share here as well. D-Day vet Jim Martin parachutes again, 70 years later at age 93.

"It didn't (compare)," Martin said, "because there wasn't anybody shooting at me today."

Was just coming to post that. Jim is a great follow on Facebook if you are into that. Dude does more at 93 than I do at 50

Helicopters drop one million rose petals on the Statue of Liberty today at 10:30. It is a gesture of gratitude in honor of D-Day from an organization called the French Will Never Forget.
