Iron Chef FBG - Interest Check and Rules Discussion (1 Viewer)

@Scoresman
i would suggest doing this as a series.... do a category at a time. need to do this apples to apples.

Edit: and I can sample @Eephus dish :D

You mean everyone making the same dish?
Week 1: soup
Week 2: apps
Week 3: sandwich
Week 4: chicken entre

etc

I like this. I just worry we'll end up with less participants with that level of involvement. I'm thinking we do a general one first, then if we really want to nerd out, this is how I see this expanding.

In terms of apple to apples, if someone submits scrambled eggs up against someone's Tibetan 60 day aged mountain goat foie gras with a side of duck egg and leek souffle, then they probably know how they will fare. I think from the recipes that have been posted on the forum in various threads, we kind of know the general quality of what will be submitted.

That brings up a good question. Should we all announce what we are making ahead of time or surprise up until the submission is posted?
I vote announce ahead of time
/announce

Bumping to gauge additional interest. I think we definitely have enough for this to be a go, but there's no limit to number of entries.

Again, deadlines will not be until after the new year, but if anyone wants to document and use any of their holiday recipes for this, want to give people time.

Can first ingredient be guinea pig? Love to see what you real cooks can do with that especially the dessert angle.

i have an ecuadorian in the family, so i am on board. cuey ahoy!
Found this place on the web

Guinea pig meat is high in protein and low in fat and cholesterol, and is described as being similar to rabbit and the dark meat of chicken. The animal may be served fried, broiled or roasted, and in urban restaurants may also be served in a casserole or a fricassee. Guinea pig Testicles, Guinea pig Testicles online, Buy Guinea pig Testicles, Purchase Guinea pig Testicles, where can I buy Guinea pig Testicles, cooking Guinea pig testicles slow cooker, Guinea pig testicles recipes, smoking Guinea pig testicles, grilling Guinea pig testicles, Guinea pig testicles tacos, cooking Guinea pig testicles in a pressure cooker, cooking Guinea pig testicles Mexican style, cooking Guinea pig testicles sous vide

Seriously, would like to try it but will never make it myself for fear of doing something wrong an not having a good experience.

Keep. It. Simple.

Don't turn this into a music draft. Or a DotM movie thread. Simple. I cannot overstate this.

I think it's pretty simple as it is now? :oldunsure:

1) Think of a main dish you cook really well.
2) Cook this dish with a few photos of at least the final product.
3) Post the recipe and link to photos in the upcoming submission thread.
4) Profit

Perfect! One round of this first. No "themes", no multiple entries, no categories, just have the participants do one dish and then take a giant pause on this to see how it worked out.

I'm telling you from experience that if it gets too complex or requires multiple entries you'll lose momentum. Some of the suggestions on page 1 are pulling you away from the original focus. Keep it simple buddy and you got this.

Love you buddy, but if it goes this route it'll fall apart. The ability of this group to stick with something past 1 round will be the demise of a great idea.

GM is on a TEAR this week of strong opinions and a willingness to share them directly lol

I happen to agree int his case - keep it simple for the first go round for sure - but thought the observation was funny

We can always morph this into something like that one round at a time. If this ends up working well and is fun, I imagine maybe it could take off to do stuff like this.

Agree 100%. Let the first iteration breathe and fine life before commitment is made for season 2 and beyond. This is a "pilot".

You guys do it as you see fit.

Focusing on a category actually levels and simplifies the activity.

I think scores suggested entrees. Perfect. Up to you all how specific you get (ie, poultry, seafood, beef, etc…. Or not).

Creating a soup can be much more complex than grilling a steak.

In 25 years of posting here, one thing I've learned about these things is commitment wanes and it wanes in a hurry.

Do with that information what you will.

I still wish I could peruse the "Villians, Antagonist" type draft we had several years ago. It was intense to the very end, and page after page of good posts and funny stuff.

this will never happen, but talking about it and reading shtick is fun.

I'm in no matter what.

I do think we need a master ingredient though. How do you vote for 10-12 absolutely different dishes without some thought on how they used the master ingredient? It can be something simple. Chicken. Beans. Pasta.

You look at all the recipes and vote for the one that looks the best to you or the one you would most want to cook and eat yourself?

Since we cant taste these, voting will come down to the photography (grainy flip phone photos will probably not look very appetizing), cooking techniques, ingenuity, and the ingredients used. I would probably ask people to vote on the latter criteria. While I think the photography is important, this is not a photography contest.

Sorry folks. I'm out on this one.

I'm not feeling particularly culinary at the moment. Maybe Thanksgiving will snap me out of it but right now I'm at a loss over what do with a pork shoulder tonight.

You have almost two full months to snap out of it, guy. Don’t give up now

I might be in. There are a few things I make that I really like, but I'm not doing anything special, just following a recipe.

Bumping this in case anyone might want to use thanksgiving week main dishes and wants to photo document it for this.

Although I guess the turkey is the main dish for Thanksgiving, and not sure if anyone would do that. But anyway I know there's lots of cooking happening this week.

I will be starting the main signup thread sometime in December.
