From the article in link:
The Seahawks have been considering their options at receiver while Jackson recovered from his second surgery in the past year. Coach Mike Holmgren said the team has plenty of depth at the position as long as Jackson remains available.
“We kind of brought him along in an intelligent way medically,” Holmgren said. “If he can come back and play, then we have no depth problems at all.
“If he can’t, then someone else has to step up – (D.J.) Hackett has to step up, someone else has to step up. That’s what we have to wait and see.”
Ok, they cut Warrick, an experienced vet, a week ago.
They cut Maurice Mann about 5 days ago. (he was the guy turning heads in camp)
That leaves, according to our depth chart, this;
WR Darrell Jackson (inj), Nate Burleson, Bobby Engram, D.J. Hackett (inj), Willie Ponder (KR)
So, if they just signed Ponder for p/k returns, that seems right. That's what he's good at.
Plus he just got his copy of the playbook.
Burleson in the WR2 spot, where he's practiced the whole camp.
Bobby Engram who lines up in the slot and is the second possession rec in Holgren's offense. Remember, when Jackson went down last year it was J'Vicous who prospered, not Engram. Or at least not nearly as much.
This gets down to Darrell Jackson's knees. Because everyone is accounted for here except Hackett.
And I'm shocked that Holmgren is going with so little depth. He knows this team is poised to win now. Doesn't seem like enough options.
Unless he's sure that Hackett can carry the load should Jackson need another stint on the injury list. Not an unlikely wager.
Can a guy have two knee surgeries in one year, miss camp and preseason, and be counted on to give you the value of his ADP?
And that's the rub for me. This has a "perfect storm" feel to it that I rarely see in FF.
If you play in a ppr like me, this kinda find can put you over the top. Can someone talk me outta this so I don't waste a roster spot on this deeeep sleeper?
Am I out of my mind or am I the only one who is connecting the dots here?
