Dallas has themselves a HC.... finally (1 Viewer)

Looking forward to this thread at the end of the season.
makes you wonder , was he sandbagging his playcalling before Phillips got fired? seemed to me like that is what was going on..he was, afterall, guaranteed to be next Cowboys HC, whenever Phillips leaves. The plays that he called yesterday, could've been called any time over the past few weeks, even going back to late last season, but never were.. :wall:
Why do you think they weren't called? Which stood out to you as being so different? Does Kitna vs Romo have anything to do with it instead of Wade vs Garrett?

Garrett can't do any worse next year than what Wade was doing this year so JJ will probably keep him if they finish decently
If he had any cursory talks with Cowher, then Cowher's actions will decide this IMO. A new stadium plus a uniquely high quality coach like Cowher is too smart an investment. Jones literally mortgaged and bartered all he had for the stadium. There's gotta be reminders "every other day" hitting him. And don't forget he lost his marquee coach so he could go dramatically increase the value of the Fins-not to necessarily turn them into a winner. That Fins owner made that clear.

Penalties were way down too. :lmao:
Yeah... they looked like a well coached football team.
do you guys really think 1 week of garrett is the reason their penalties are down? like all it took was 7 days and a few practices to undo all the bad habits, laziness, and get everyone on the same page.that, or mebbe it was luck.
Well I think anyone that follows the Cowboys knows that the players had quit on WP. Garrett got the boys on the same page. I hope it is a sign of things to come. That wasn't luck. The talent showed up today and played inspired for the first time since the Romo injury.

Listening to the description of "big changes" under Garrett this week - no cell phones at meetings, bringing notebooks to meetings, etc. - really pointes out the fact that Phillips was no HC.

Mike Ditka, "It all starts with discipline."
The guy who traded his whole draft for one player is an authority on discipline?

It's one game, guys. One game.
Anyone watching the game could see a HUGE difference in that team. Everyone on that field was giving it everything they had.
That's what upsets me the most about this. I completely give credit to a new HC if he can do the attention to detail things that cut down penalties and such because that can and does win/lose games. But then you have to look at this and say "this is the same group of players that have been here all along" so, at a minimum, I am disappointed that these professionals could not self-check themselves enough to be professional. I know Cowboys fans are looking at this as the light at then end of the tunnel; a glimmer of salvage in their dismal season, and something to be optimistic about. But as an unbiased guy that has no real or fantasy interest in this team, I look at it and say "what a shame". Big waste of talent. Terrific opportunity squandered. Could have been playing a SB in the own stadium perhaps. And after seeign the same guys come out and be so different just 6 days after being that terrible, its evident that it wasn't all Wade Phillips. If a team can do that 6 days into having a new coach, they could have done that to some degree before. If anyone saw the Patriots last night and watched Tom Brady, you KNEW (KNEW) that this guy was in to that game and was leading his team and was wanting to atone for the bad game last week. Its a shame the professional players on the Cowboys couldn't have found that kind of "want to" in them this season. On a side note, I know you never have to apologize for winning but the Giants kind of showed that ugly side that they can show sometimes. They look like world beaters for a while, then they stick their head in the sand for a while. It ALMOST reminded me of that game last year when the Giants were hot and went to New Orleans and got drubbed (and were never the same afterwards). It wasn't that bad yesterday but they DID do a lot to themselves yesterday that wasn't the same as what they had been. They just appeared a little undisciplined yesterday and I would say that is apparent in how they allowed as many big plays yesterday as they had all season combined to that point.

Does the result show the players had no guts or pride previously? Were they looking for an excuse to quit under Wade? If so that is a reflection on them.

And if Eli doesn't throw that 101 YD pick 6/The Giants don't make so many stupid penalties/The Giants overall Sloppy Play things would have turned out differently for the Cowgirls

Yes the Cowgirls have some talent but IMHO the Giants were thinking that they would have a cakewalk again and they got burned because of it.
Did you miss the Giants first game this year against Dallas? It wasn't even close to a cakewalk for the Giants who squeezed out a 41-35 win after being down 20-7 midway through the second quarter.

lol at the guys saying Garrett did nothing and Wade wasn't the reason they stunk. Let's see, Wade allowed the players to run the asylum. He gets canned. Garrett closes his fist and the players respond.

It isn't as if they weren't competitive for all the games. Only the Jacksonville game was a blowout. The difference between winning and losing in the NFL is so small.

I'm a huge Dallas Cowboys Fan.

This had the makings of another humiliation. I wasn't sure what to expect. Even after Jimmy Johnson and others prior to the game lauding Jason's preperation, organizational skills, and professionalism. Then I read that Marion "I'm no longer the Barbarian" Barber violated the new teams dress rules. Was he reprimanded at all or did Jason say something like Oh since you don't have any dress cloths I'll buy your first set next week? :pics:

Dallas really needs to give up on Barber and Roy Error Williams. There paying to much money to this overated 3rd receiver and this Broke Back. Once Roy gets down on himself which he will he will become an even bigger non-factor. The O line looked really good. Dez Bryant thank you for breaking out the past few few weeks. Yesterday you looked like a BEAST.

Barber didn't start - it was ceremonial at best, but he only had 4 carries until the last 2 minutes of the game. I'm sure if Barber violates the dress code again, it will be more than simply not getting the first carry. And I won't go into how stupid it was to put Barber in for the second carry after Jones had just ripped off a ten yarder...

I agree on Barber, but not Roy. Williams has been great this season. He's one of the few players that was really trying hard back when they didn't seem accountable for anything they did. Yeah, he's overpaid, and yeah he sucked the first could seasons in Dallas, but why get rid of him at this point when you are finally starting to recoup on the investment?BTW, the OL still looked awful.

Switz Error Williams needs to be cut after this year. Now that Dez has emerged look at Error Williams last 4 games. In my fantasy league his points have been 0, 2.5, .5 and 4. Prior that he's only had 3 good weeks. It looks like his salary for this year is 13.6 million. That money needs to be spent on a more productive player(s). If there's one thing he is good at would be talking a good game. But you would to if you've underperformed and wanted to keep your money flowing. There's nothing more iritating to me than this trainwreck. This is a good example of Dallas needing a GM.

Ya I should of said the offensive line played alot better and allowed Kitna to shred the Giants secondary. :fishing:

`Not to mention one Backup Olineman screwup from having that winning coach smile wiped off his face.TD called back and turned into a pick 6 (14 point swing) Plus 2nd TD called back for Backup Olineman screwup ... Neither had anything to do with the play.

I think the "hey, it's just one game" people are saying that the Cowboys were going to play better this week regardless of who the new head coach was. Knowing that the coach had been fired and that they now have some pressure on them to perform or possibly be cut in the off-season under a potential new regime, was going to make the majority of players play with more urgency.

If the Cowboys continue to play well the rest of the season, then you can start to give credit to Garrett. One game does not prove anything yet about him as a head coach.

I'm going to have to say that the Packer game was also a blowout. Now it may well be that the score is not indicative of the relative talents of the teams, but that was a blow out.

They could simply restructure Williams for less money. You should judge his play by FF points, that doesn't say anything about how he's been playing at all.The OL was better, but that just indicates how awful they were previously. There were still a ton of mess-ups by the OL, but fewer penalties, and movement in the right direction.

I was referring to the Giants Thinking that they would have an easy time beating the Cowboys this time without Romo And coming the week after they ran Seattle off of their home field. As for the first Cowboys game IMHO it really was an easier win than the score would indicate (Manning threw THREE INT's in that game and they totally outplayed Dallas just like yesterday EXCEPT every time they shot themselves in the foot yesterday Dallas made them pay unlike the game in Dallas)

You think the Giants totally outplayed the Cowboys yesterday? Ummm ok.

I think we can all agree this was premature. Has there been a more talented team in the last 5 years that has under performed as much as the Cowboys?

That is the subjective part (bolded). Just like the Eagles a year ago, everyone keeps talking about how talented they are, but at some point you are what you are. Thus, if they are not performing...then just maybe, they are not as talented as everyone thinks they are. What is on paper compared to what is on the field are two total opposite things and after awhile, what is done on the field overrides anything that is on paper. Not saying they are a terrible team, but the word OVERRATED seems to apply for the Cowboys and the Eagles. Media just loves to hype these franchises these past few years...
