Dallas trades 3rd rounder for '08 1st rounder (1 Viewer)

WOW Dallas is really working it.

With their trades to the Browns and Eagles the Cowboys essentially moved down 4 spots late in the 1st + gave up a 3rd+5th pick for a 2008 1st rounder.... WOW!

Jerry owns dumb owners. He may be a sanctimonius #####, but he has an excellent understanding of the draft and the game. One of the better owners in the draft year in and year out.

They also gave Philly their 2nd rounder (36th from CLE trade)....but I agree, great move for the Cowboys. That 2008 1st rounder could be a top 10 pick.

you conveniently left out the Quincy debacle . . .

I love the moves, and while I was hoping for a Safety or WR in the 1st...I am happy with Spencer also. He is a nice DE/OLB in the 3-4 and will add some pressure to our defense. IMO this isnt a sign of "giving up" on Canty or Spears, but to me its a sign that Greg Ellis will either be traded soon or that his rehab is going worse than expected.

I expect Spencer to be a starting OLB in our defense, with the ability to play DE if Spears or Canty go down. With Ayodele, Bradie James, Ware, Carpenter, and Burnett I see a nice and young LB corps. Ellis will surely go soon...

I think we will still have "one too many" LB's, but it will be nice depth. Don't know where Ayodele fits in though, since I see Ware and Burnett as the OLB's with James and Carpenter the MLB's. Maybe Ayodele and Burnett are the "backup" MLB and OLB's respectfully.

One too many LB's on our team, but I will be really happy when we get a nice trade for one of these guys...I'm sure it is bound to happen.

I see Spencer had 26.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. That's an incredible number it seems. I think he will be a key defender, but probably not a starter. I think he rotates in and plays 50-70% of the downs, to stay fresh and effective.

Well, it wasn't quite a 3rd for the '08 1st straight up.

It was actually a 3rd, 5th, and moving down 4 spots in the 1st this year for an '08 1st.

Still an amazing exchange, and when you consider that it was the Browns' pick they got (likely top 10) it was just a total steal.

Top 5. Atleast I hope so. :lmao:

Clearly the trade with Clev was a true win win for both. Clev is in great shape with a top lineman and franchise QB. Now way does that happen unless someone feels they benefit in the trade. Dallas doesn't need the QB so they take an opportunity to get another 1st next year. It was worht it for both clubs to do this.

At the end of the day I would give a slight edge to Clev for pulling this off. They now have one of the best drafts they've ever had.

I love to see htis type of trade. Very nice for both clubs. :goodposting:

Well, as the Browns just picked with the #53 pick from Dallas, it's looking more and more like Dallas traded their 1 & 2 this year to Cleveland for Cleveland's #2 this year & Cleveland's #1 next year.

This is contrary to every news report I've seen, though.

I wish the Cowboys would have stayed at pick 53 and taken Eric Wright for themselves. I think if he keeps his nose clean he could be a really good one.

Cowboys | Move out of the second

The Cleveland Browns have traded three picks - No. 67, 103 and 178 overall - to the Dallas Cowboys for the No. 53 overall selection in the NFL Draft. The Cowboys also traded their No. 195 overall pick to the Browns.

What can I say, I guess we like giving picks to Dallas?

In any case, I think both trades worked out very well for both teams. Dallas gets a ton of picks (including what I'm sure will be a high 1st rounder next year), and Cleveland picks up arguably the best LT, QB, and CB in the draft!

It's a good day to be either a Browns or Cowboys fan...

The funny thing is that no one thinks about the $$$$. So what if Cleveland's pick next year is top 10 or top 5. They freed up a ton of space, say to sign Michael Turner as a FA next year. Imagine if they took a QB next year at #5. The difference in salary for Quinn at #22 this year and ??? at #5 next year is probably equivalent to a good FA like Turner next year. If they think Quinn is better than any QB next year (with a year of NFL experience to boot), then people may say they lost out draft pick wise, but they could easily be a better team.
