Darius Rucker - from Hootie to bonafide country star?! (1 Viewer)

Any updates on the Blowfish?
when the country thing goes bust he'll call them up for a hootie reunion tour... :mansion:
If you're smart and can pull it off well, country music is definitely the way to go. Ask Kelly Clarkson and others. Most genres of music wane in popularity at some point. Country never does. There will always be tons of country music fans.
While I agree with the sentiment, I wouldn't say Kelly Clarkson is a country artist. She has had a song or two of hers that get played on country stations, and has had a couple of duets with country stars, but that's about it. No different than country singers crossing over into the pop charts every once in a while. Rappers Nelly and Ludacris have also had some appearances in hits in the country world.

I didn't necessarily mean she was a country singer, but crossing over into country music is a smart thing. Country has changed drastically over the past few years. People of all backgrounds like it now, not just your local redneck. I wouldn't equate Nelly and Ludacris to Clarkson but I understand what you're saying. Even Cheryl Crow is considered a country artist now. It's nothing like it once was.

That's because it isn't country anymore. It's pop with a steel guitar.

Saw him at the San Antonio rodeo this past February. Was a mix of his country hits, 4-5 Hootie songs, and 3-4 covers including a Prince song, Little Pink Houses, and Family Tradition. Big fan.

When I worked in minor league hockey in the late 90's, Hootie & the Blowfish came to our arena for a concert. We were loading the bus for a road trip when they did their sound check. We got a chance to talk to the entire band for about ten minutes. All they were interested in was finding the nearest Cracker Barrell for lunch and then hitting a decent golf course in the afternoon. We made arrangements for them at a local course and got Darius to wear one of our jerseys to take pictures with us. He wore it for the sound check too. They were completely dull, boring normal people. Liked them ever since.

Happy for my Charleston homey, but I'm pretty sure any two-bit hack can make it in country
Only thing easier is Christian Pop. Take a country love song and change the name of the targeted love to Jesus. Profit.
Kenny Rogers made the switch from pop to country first, but nobody noticed because he wasn't as black.
Coulda fooled me. Have you tasted his chicken?
lol

He's great doing covers. Most known for Purple Rain from Prince, but even saw him do Surrender by Cheap Trick. Talented dude.

Not many of those out there. Most are in love with fame and have over inflated egos.
