Darren Fells - TE - Houston (1 Viewer)

The guy deserves his own thread and has for a while. Currently saving weeks. I’d have figured Akins would be the guy to emerge but nope, so far it’s Fells. Went to UC Irvine. Houston is his fourth team since coming into the league, he’s never had more than 21 catches, 3 TDs in a season. Currently at 28/23/244/5 in half a season and he just got a 6th TD.

Thoughts?

He’s starting to emerge and good TEs are rare.

But a little too TD depended at this point IMO. I’d like to see consistently high targets before I say he’s arrived.

Darren Fells caught a one-yard touchdown in Week 9 against the Jaguars.

He was targeted just three times. Fells has been one of the biggest surprises of the season, leading all tight ends with six touchdowns. He'll get a matchup with the Ravens after a Week 10 bye.

Darren Fells caught 2-of-3 targets for 23 yards and a touchdown in Week 13 against the Patriots.

Fells lined up in the backfield and beat Dont'a Hightower off a play-action pass from 13 yards out. He wasn’t much of a factor outside of his score, finishing behind both DeAndre Hopkins and Duke Johnson in targets. It’s a nice rebound for Fells, who had been touchdown-less in his last two games. In the midst of a career year, Fells is on pace for a 38/414/10 line.

Darren Fells caught both of his targets for 19 yards in the Texans' Week 1 loss to the Chiefs.

He and Jordan Akins were each targeted two times as they split tight-end duties, and Akins did more with his by catching a 20-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Fells was a red-zone machine last season, but that always seemed kinda fluky. He's a bottom-barrel TE2/3.

Darren Fells played 60 percent of Houston's offensive snaps in Week 10 against the Browns, the highest rate among Houston tight ends.

Jordan Akins played just 42 percent of the snaps in a favorable matchup against a Cleveland defense allowing plenty of targets and receptions to tight ends. Both tight end ran 12 routes. Akins and Fells each saw one target against the Browns, and Akins came half a yard from turning his sole chance into a touchdown. Little-used Pharaoh Brown, meanwhile, caught two balls for 21 yards and a score. Fantasy managers shouldn't write off Akins after a disappointing Week 10 -- no one in Houston's offense did much of anything against the Browns.
