Davenport hungry (1 Viewer)

I know the write up on this site said Willie took himself out of the game at the goal line in the Dolphin game but I'm not buying it. What RB, especially one who has made it clear he wants the goal line job, would remove himself at the one yard line? I think Davenport is going to be the goal line back and it was never Willies job. The good news is Willie is such a gamebreaker I still think he will be good for about 8-10 TD's.
Parker definitely took himself out of the game. Saw it me-self...
Please elaborate on what you saw. I watched the game but have not seen a replay and all I saw was he left the game.
Parker was heading for the huddle, then he turned towards the sidelines and started to wave as in to say "I'm coming out". I remember this because I was surprised that he was pulling himself out after being such a big part of bringing them down the field.
Maybe but maybe not. Maybe he raised his hand as if to say "me" when Verron came in. I'm a huge Steeler fan so I've followed this closely and not for fantasy football. I know Willie is dying to prove he can get the tough yards and has stated he thinks he is suited to be the goal line back. I find it difficult to believe he would pull himself on the one yard line in light of this. I'm not saying it's not possible but I am saying we don't know for sure.I wanted to add I was out of town at my WCOFF draft and forgot to TIVO the game. I did pose this question on the Steelerslive.com page and they honestly don't know if FWP pulled himself or got pulled but here is what the last guy wrote. These are not my words but the words of someone who just re-watched the game after I asked the question:

I just watched it. After Willie Ran it down to the half yard line he got up and walked back to the huddle. On his way to the huddle someone got his attention and he looked over and then put his hand up. He had every intention of staying in the game. If he wanted out he would have put his hand up immediately and jogged to the sideline. He saw Haynes coming in and probably just put his hand up out of habit.
 Have you taken your meds today ???? He looked to the sideline and asked for a blow, I know you badly want him to get EVERY goal line carry but you're being delusional if you think he didn't take himself out of the game. Davenport will get his shot at the sort yardage/goalline carries on Monday night, if he looks good, he'll keep them. If Dookie fumbles, gets hurt or doesn't look good, then Willie might get another crack at the goal line.
No, he was pulled from the game and if you think a player who has been lamenting all off season he can be the goal line back would pull himself at the one than it's you who is delusional.I have no horse in this race either as I don't own FWP in any league. I'm just a Steeler fan.

 OK, you're right... :violin: :tinfoilhat:

will cowher be more likely to use davenport after tonight's debacle versus jacksonville?

though he didn't get in the game, is it possible davenport's value increased thanks to parker and hayes inability to do anything?

i could see cowher longing for a bus-type runner after this terrible effort (not that davenport would have done any better...)

I don't think Cowher will blame FWP for tonight's perfomance. That was just Jax defense with a virtuoso performance. If anything, the O-line is to blame for allowing so much penetration. Cowher is smart enough to know this.

nopeThis effects willie none. Jax dominated.

He much be starving. I am going to start a "Feed Nagil Foundation". The acronym FNF may be interpretted anyway you want.

Agreed. The Jags shut out the entire Steelers offense.

I think Davenport will get some work next game. The Chin loves pounding the big backs when the weather gets cold.

It may be smart to stash Davenport away if you have roster room.

Gerry Dulac is conjecturing more at this point, as I see no attributable quotes.

It might not be a repeat of last season, when the Steelers used three running backs to rush for 221 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals.

But the Steelers likely will try to use more than just Willie Parker in their 1 p.m. game tomorrow against the Bengals at Heinz Field, and that includes getting some carries for new running back Najeh Davenport.

Davenport, who once rushed for 178 yards in a game against the St. Louis Rams, dressed but did not play the 9-0 loss Monday night in Jacksonville. But Parker has carried on 40 of the team's 44 designed running plays in two games -- 90.9 percent -- a workload the Steelers would not like to continue.

"I just practice hard and let the cards fall where they may," said Davenport, who spent four seasons in Green Bay before he was released by the Packers two weeks ago. "You do the best you can in practice, but you feel like a rookie all over again. It's not the same as doing it in a game."

In a 27-13 victory in Paul Brown Stadium in October, Parker had 18 carries for 131 yards against the Bengals, but Jerome Bettis carried 13 times for 56 yards and Verron Haynes added 35 yards on 11 carries.
