David Cassidy on his deathbed (1 Viewer)

:(

I may or may not have been a big Partridge Family fan when I was a kid.

Okay, I was.

Especially Laurie.

His kidneys are failing and if he doesn't get a liver transplant,  he's dead. Years of heavy drinking is catching up with him, just like it did to my bff's bro a month ago when he died of liver and kidney failure at 59..

my god you have a lot of disease and death stories.

Another heavy drinker dies of liver and kidney failure . First my bff's bro, ac/dc dude and now him. I used to have posters of him and Shawn Cassidy on my wall. Also used to watch Partridge Family.

Didn't  Danny forget his last name from that show turn himself around after years of addictions?

Rip DC. :(

Strange and sad end. Cassidy really embraced what was a sort of kitschy early career, rather than run away from it. RIP.
Actually it was the opposite for quite some time...his goal was to be a legit Rock Star which was never gonna happen after being a Teen Superstar...

A lot of the same things that were said about Adam West upon his passing a few months back, apply to David Cassidy. They were both talented guys who got pigeonholed to the extent that it thwarted any advancement in their careers.

read excerpts from the collected memoirs of Bonaduce, and he recounted how he absolutely was bonkers for Dey ... at one point she went on an all carrot diet - said she took on a most hideous shade of orange as a result, effectively putting the kibosh on all that   :X

as far as Cassidy, wow ... guy was huger than huge, it seemed every female under 20 was infatuated with him back in those days - oh, and "I Think I Love You" is prototypical EMO as all #### - a groundbreaking ditty, that

I was 11 when the Partridge Family TV show aired.  I was way too cool to admit to my friends that I watched the show but I did.

I couldn't stand the music and the little kids pretending to play instruments but the show was really good.  Aside from the two youngest that didn't say much the chemistry between the actors was great.  And to an 11 year old Laurie was smoking hot.

RIP David.

I'm a couple of years younger than you, but the TV show was right in my wheelhouse too. I reckon Laurie was a first-crush for a lot of people our age.

I thought then - and still do - that their songs were fine. They were well-written, -performed, and -produced. They were whitebread as hell, sure (though Cassidy seemed to try and sneak some soul into them). And they had ringers playing, but so did the Byrds, Beach Boys, and Doors records - all critical faves. Stuff like "I Woke Up In Love This Morning" and "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted" - to me - hold up better today than almost anything by the Airplane or ELP.

In any case, Cassidy had a good voice and seemed like an intelligent dude. It would have been interesting to see where he might have gone had he not been hamstrung by the weight of being a teen idol.
