David Givens - a great pickup or ? (1 Viewer)

Wasn't he supposedly signed to be the #1 WR in Tennessee with Bennett being the #2 and together with the young WR"s they have their for some kind of passing game ?

Tennessee is a bad team. They're going to be behind and pass a lot. I know Givens has had a hamstring issure through camp but how many top WR's have too ?

Will he be ready ? For game 1 ? Will he be a 70-80 catch WR this year ?

Anybody know anything ?

David Givens, out the last three games with a hamstring problem, is expected to practice and play in the opener. He and Bennett are slated to start with Bobby Wade as No. 3.

I just found that.

Reason I'm really interested is that I drafted a 16 team league and players aren't readily available as you might imagine and I just picked Givens up today. If he's the #1 in Tennessee thats a helluva pickup in free agency, even a #2 WR is hard to snatch at this point.

Givens is just a guy I will never draft. There's nothing desirable about him or his situation.

I'd take Bennett as a WR3. Troupe as a backup TE (with potential to be much better than that). Givens as a WR4 or 5.

I actually think he's in a good situation, with a team that will likely be forced to throw the ball a lot. Unfortunately, the QB situation is definitely in flux, so it's hard to say how good the passing game will be, or who will be the preferred targets.Givens also looked good when healthy with the Pats. If he can somehow stay healthy, he could surprise on the upside.

I drafted him to be my WR#3. I think we should be taking a wait and see approach for week 1, and see how he comes back from his injury.920 yards, 6 td's reasonable? I see Dodd's has him quite a bit lower than that :sadbanana:

As a Patriots homer, and former Givens fantasy owner, I can tell you this: David Givens is a very, very average wide receiver on a very, very bad team. Think Frank Sanders. 600/3. Tennesee grossly overpaid.

What Givens has done in the NFL PLAYOFFS is a different story. He came through for the Pats in big playoff games with big catches. Don't suspect we'll see the Titans in the playoffs for a little bit though...

And I don't buy the "the Titans will be behind so they will throw the ball alot, giving Givens good numbers" argument. By that logic, Antonio Bryant, Laverneus Coles and Andre Johnson should be atop the WR rankings! Bad teams (albeit true they may throw more than run when behind) have to have the POSSESSIONS in order to get said passing plays off. If the Titans D can't get off the field, and the Titans O can't sustain drives and string together first downs, the Titans passing game suffers and dwells near the bottom of the league.

Now you're telling me you want an average-at-best, never-put-up-good-numbers #2 WR from one of the worst passing offenses in the league?

He's a bye-week fill-in, nothing more. Dime a dozen. There are plenty of 600/3 TDs wideouts to be had.

And BTW... Brandon Jones is the guy from Tennesee to grab, if any.

Cut Givens yesterday to pick up Ben Watson, and I'm not in a TE mandatory league. Tells you how I feel about Givens. He was my last round pick. WR on new team, very unsettled, hurt all preseason - just doesn't add up to a good season..

hmmmmm

Nobody loves Givens, that much is obvious.

If he goes for 1,000 yards , 65-70 catches and 6-8 TD's I'll look brilliant here.

But then, for a free agent pickup if he gets half the above thats not bad either.

I like Brandon Jones .... just not this year

NE seemed to share the ball so much that no one's stats would be that great. That said, he did not surpass Deion Branch and should therefore be limited on upside to something below what you might expect from Deion. As a positive factor, he has a lot to prove on a new team and most likely will get many more targets.

I like his upside - Certainly a very good free agent pickup! So is Ben Watson, but neither guy would have been on my 12-team league's waiver wire anyway. Not sure how big your rosters are...!?

just drafted ....... 16 teams, 2 required WR start, salary based league, 16 man rosters

Tough to find ANYHING on the Free Agent list, not to mention a potential #1 WR for a team. Even if he's a solid #2 thats going to look really good IMO

Agree - in a 16-teamer, this is a NO brainer.

I would think Bennett is the clear #1 in Tennessee....and a guy I see alot of value in.I don't know a great deal about Givens, but he doesn't appear to have the makings of a #1 wr.

A lot of Brandon Jones love on this board. With Roydell WIlliams and Wade, im not sure who to pick up.

Ive heard great things about Williams and Jones. Who do you guys think will be the better WR down the road? For instance, in a dynasty situation. And also, if Givens is hobbled by his injury.

What you have to remember is Givens was in a offense that never focused on a single receiver. You also have to remember his post season production, which was very good and shows he can be counted on when needed. I think if Tennessee builds the passing game around his play he will produce good numbers. I"ve been saying this for the last couple of years and that is he is very similar to Hines Ward physically and metally and given the chance he can produce the same type of numbers.
