ACC adademic honor roll... top NCAA triple-jumper... probably does run a ~4.40 forty (guy with access to Tech's spring tape claims his video analysis last year was verified accurate by the combine and that Wilson was timed at 4.37 this year)... holds RB weightlifting records at Tech... insanely gifted athlete (standing backflip with no hands, catches rabbits, climbed the main columns at Tech all the way to the top)... high energy, fun-loving guy... never been in trouble... had a very good first year as a bellcow back and averaged 20+ touches a game... doesn't turn 21 until next June...
If height/weight and sub-4.4 forty are verified at the combine he's my favorite O-skill position prospect after Richardson and Luck.
So you'd take him over Blackmon? That seems a little overboard. I have Wilson as the #3 RB in this class right now. He is definitely a good athlete. Fluid and quick. Not a lot of wasted motion. At his best, I see a little bit of a young Tomlinson in him. On the other hand, I've never seen him make the really deadly LT-style cuts and he looks small. With his build and running style, he almost looks more like a cornerback/slot receiver/return specialist than a bell cow RB.
Another thing working against him is the perennial success of Virginia Tech runners. I'm not one to pigeonhole players based on where they played, but it bears mentioning that virtually every Tech RB dating back to Lee Suggs has put up big stats in college. Suggs,
Kevin Jones, Darren Evans, Ryan Williams, Wilson. It's a bit like Wisconsin where you can't quite take the production at face value because the system is so friendly. Doesn't mean he can't be a great player, but maybe the numbers are a bit inflated.
