David Wilson to enter 2012 NFL Draft (1 Viewer)

Tremendous upside, but very raw at running back. Poor vision, fumble problems, doesn't cut sharply. I expect him to blow up the combine though. Probably will be mostly a kick returner his rookie year.

VT guy here, I said this in the other thread but the thing that has impressed me the most about Wilson besides his speed is his balance, he keeps his feet under him no matter what. It seems impossible to knock this guy down with a hit, you have to actually clamp on and drag him to the ground.

The 2 biggest knocks I can see with Wilson are his blocking and ball security. Both of these can be worked on as long as he's willing to listen and learn and from all reports he seems to be a team guy.

What really stands out to me are his burst and explosiveness. He also is a good receiver is the passing game but his blocking could hinder that to start his career. He was timed at 4.29 at VT but they are notorious for speeding things up for it's players so I would not be shocked to see him run in the 4.37-4.45 range. He also is a very hard runner and doesn't mind lower his pads to deliver a blow.

Overall I think he has the skillset to be a 3 down back in the league.

Wilson = Joe McKnight with more power; both carry over their return mentality to RB and run with reckless abandon.

Apparently he's dumb as a post, as evidenced by that sweet run in the bowl game where he lost 25 yards.
Nobody that saw that game walked away very impressed with him. I saw nothing NFL worthy there and based on how soft VaTech's schedule was, I have real concerns about what kind of RB he will be at the next level.

ACC adademic honor roll... top NCAA triple-jumper... probably does run a ~4.40 forty (guy took Tech's spring tape and used the video to estimate times...claims that last year was verified accurate by the combine, and that Wilson was timed at 4.37 this year)... holds RB weightlifting records at Tech... insanely gifted athlete (standing backflip with no hands, catches rabbits, climbed the main columns at Tech all the way to the top)... high energy, fun-loving guy... never been in trouble... had a very good first year as a bellcow back and averaged 20+ touches a game... doesn't turn 21 until next June...

If height/weight and sub-4.4 forty are verified at the combine he's my favorite O-skill position prospect after Richardson and Luck.

So you'd take him over Blackmon? That seems a little overboard. I have Wilson as the #3 RB in this class right now. He is definitely a good athlete. Fluid and quick. Not a lot of wasted motion. At his best, I see a little bit of a young Tomlinson in him. On the other hand, I've never seen him make the really deadly LT-style cuts and he looks small. With his build and running style, he almost looks more like a cornerback/slot receiver/return specialist than a bell cow RB. Another thing working against him is the perennial success of Virginia Tech runners. I'm not one to pigeonhole players based on where they played, but it bears mentioning that virtually every Tech RB dating back to Lee Suggs has put up big stats in college. Suggs, Kevin Jones, Darren Evans, Ryan Williams, Wilson. It's a bit like Wisconsin where you can't quite take the production at face value because the system is so friendly. Doesn't mean he can't be a great player, but maybe the numbers are a bit inflated.

All tore an ACL in college or NFL, probably limited their outcomes.

So what you're saying is Al Davis would take him in based on those stats?
