DAY TWO DRAFT TALK (1 Viewer)

Mangini has been terrible since the Clemens pick, in my opinion the J-E-T-S have been playing it cute, thinking they are smarter than they are. they have too many holes to be taking pie in the sky and special teams types like Reed Schlegal and Pociask, the Brad Smith pick who they think can be a good receiver in time I can see, but these are all Backups and short term roster filler at best

What started as a great draft has turned into a view of Eric's Infatuation with his own Intelligence...there are too many holes to waste the opportunity, these picks offered

I don't know if you guys read this before but I thought it was pretty funny.

According to the Sporting News (from UM Insider) Gabe Watson (4th round to Arizona) who was suppose to be a first day, if not first round pick by most accounts didn't help himself at the combine.

Watson apparently arrived in the morning just after all the scouts and officials had had their breakfast in his brand new "decked out" SUV. Watson then proceeded to drive around the parking lot "several times" with the stereo blasting.

:lmao:

I sat next to Watson's Uncle for two games in 2005 and his uncle said he had a good head on his shoulders. Maybe not so much.

Leon Washington may be very useful. I wouldn't gripe too much about that pick. Schlegel is tough. Smith is the closest to a QB prospect of the 3 QB/WR combos, and he's just a solid individual. The SS and TE both made me...

But, we cannot be familiar with every player in this thing, so who knows?

Who does he think he is? David Terrell?

Wali Lundy still undrafted :hot:
there you go, 6.1 to HOU...personally, I'd rather draft anything other than a RB. What do you know about the guy, other than someone saying he can't take a hit?
I made the "can't take a hit" comment earlier. Was viewed as a good prospect after his sophomore year. Has had injuries. Goes down on first contact. Runs too tenatively. He'll be a solid #4 back for the Texans.

Mike Hass to the Saints... was waiting for someone to pick him. Definite Wayne Chrebet type. Doesn't have the measurables, but finds a way to create space and catches everything thrown at him.

I like that pick.

ESPN.com, NFL.com are behind on updates and ESPN not anouncing any of the picks while they're talking about crap that doesn't pertain to this season (Ricky Williams). Could someone let me know who the Bills take please?

Nevermind, OLB Keith Ellison

What do you guys know about Domenik Hixon, the second WR that Denver took in the fourth? Seems like a bit of a reach to me.

I'm real happy with Chris Kuper, the OG that they took in the fifth. Seems like a great fit for their system. With Nalen getting up there, I assume in a few years Hamilton will be able to slide to center and Kuper will be far enough along in his development to take Hamilton's position.

Gabe Watson and Jonathan Lewis at DT on day 2. Hate to say it, but AZ is kicking butt in this draft.
Arizona always seems to draft the "name" players that fall... Eric Green, Elton Brown, Darnell Dockett, Daryl Blackstock, Watson, Pope

I love Marshall and Hixon. They're both converted safeties. They're both extraordinary athletes. They're both extremely tough. Marshall has been hyped here a lot, by me. Hixon is a stud. He's raw, but he's a phenomenal athlete with great measureables. I love Denver's draft. Hixon has a size and speed speed speed, but it's his toughness and athleticism that translate well to the NFL. Like Marshall, but the end of a full season at WR, it seemed to click and he was excellent. He's had two full years at WR, whereas Marshall only one. The worst you get from these guys is great special teamers. The upside is very high. Hixon is supposedly a great character guy, super hard worker, and all that. I think Shanny is rockin' the draft. But I could be wrong.

Dallas draft Montavious Stanley, DT, Louisville, interesting, hyped by Kiper, me no likey. We'll see, but Fafita is the NT bargain right now.

Thanks for the insight CC. Making me feel a lot better about those two picks. I think this is a pretty clear indication that Denver is preparing to move on without Lelie, or in the least, they're lighting a fire under his ###.

The one need I really wish Denver had addressed is safety. With Lynch getting really really old, his heir apparent doesn't seem anywhere to be found. On Denver radio, there was speculation of BVP moving to safety. Any thoughts?

That sounds a bit like a fishing expedition...

I've had Hixon on my fantasy team the past two seasons so followed him pretty closely. Great athlete, still learning the position. Still needs to develop more after-the-catch skills. His sliding TD catch to win the MAC Championship game this year, after being forced to sit most of the second half due to injury, was phenomenal. Has the upside to have a productive career. If I were a Bronco fan, I'd be happy about the selection.

Possibly. I assume it started with the Cutler pick--Denver rarely carries more than 2 QBs, so this leaves BVP as the odd man out. However, Shanny is in love with his athleticism so if he wants to keep him around, safety is about the only place he fits.

so glad the Browns got a huge D lineman.

the kid from stanford, don't feel like writing all six of his names, is going to be a good prospect for big Ted Washington and Roye to mentor

Neither Setterstom nor Eslinger have been drafted?

WTF?

Martin Nance, Reggie McNeal, Fred Matua, Hank Baskett, DonTrelle Moore,,and Spencer Havner?

Gradkowski finally goes off the board to Tampa Bay. A little surprised he fell this far, thought he could go in the 5th.

At first glance, these are the teams that I think have drafted well:

Arizona

Baltimore

Buffalo (You can laugh, but they arguably got first round talent from their first four picks)

Denver

Detroit

Green Bay

Houston

Oakland

St. Louis

Tampa

Tennessee

With the two best teams being probably Arizona and Philadelphia.

:goodposting: Buffalo fans and haters have been overreacting to the start of this draft. I think Whitner is a baller and a half. I don't know that they could have traded down. McCargo plays almost identical to Bunkley, and we talked about him being a first rounder. Two needs filled and the fans are jumping off cliffs.

These are the teams that I think drafted poorly:

Chicago

Cincinnati

Dallas (Although they got a steal with Watkins late)

Indianapolis (That sound you heard was the window of opportunity slamming shut)

Kansas City (huh?)

New Orleans (Other than Bush. Where’s the linebacker help?)

Washington

Chicago and KC did the worst.

I think Chicago's first six picks are solid.eta: I have already defended Hester. Wait and see on him, but he's very explosive. I think they know what they're doing with that pick. They must have a plan.

Indy's drafts always look ugly because they take guys that fit their system and don't care what people think. They never take the "name" players. But I agree that it looks bad

People (Bears fans and the like) weren't impressed with Brown, Vasher, Briggs, Ian Scott, etc when they were drafted. I have faith that the Bears know what they are doing when it comes to drafting defensive players. Because they may have "reached" or did not take "name" players does not necessarily mean they had the worst draft. All of these guys seem to be system picks to me with flexibility (Hester). I LOVE the Hester pick... I would pick Pro-Bowler possibilities as a returner but he may not get enough chances because the defense is so good (lack of kickoffs).
