DeAndre Levy (1 Viewer)

I think Julian Peterson is someone to watch for increased production with Levy out. He has played well in preseason and showed a good amount still left in the tank. He seems to be energized by the strength of the front four. Someone in the back 7 is going to have a lot of tackle opptys and there may be a lot of short passes / checkdowns if the front 4 can have anything like the pressure they had in the Broncos game. Peterson could be the guy, at least until Levy fully recovers.

Here is a recent interview.

there is a lot of speculation about levy's injury. i'm taking it for face value. he's not playing in the final preseason game and will have almost 2 weeks to rest, get treatment and recuperate. that's all we know at this point.

Levy was in for six plays after he was injured. In fact, the local announcers did not know he was hurt until later in the game. My guess is that it isn't too serious, but there has been nothing official about the severity.

They released boiman. Does this point to confidence Levy will start?
I'm not sure it means Levy will start in week one, but my guess is his injury isn't serious. Of course, Boiman may not have shown them enough to keep him regardless of Levy's situation.

From the Detroit News Today:

Allen Park -- Lions middle linebacker DeAndre Levy remains questionable for Sunday's season opener in Chicago because of a groin injury.

Levy was non-committal Monday when asked about his availability for the opener. He was injured Sept. 2 against Buffalo in the Lions' final preseason game.

"Hopefully (I can play)," Levy said. "It's hard to say right now. Right now I feel pretty good but it's a big difference between feeling good now and feeling good out there (on the field.)," he said. "I'm just trying to see by the end of the week. I don't know exactly what the cutoff would be."

Levy missed the first two weeks of training camp because of a back injury and his recent setback just adds to the second-year player's frustration this season.

"It's part of the game," Levy said. "You've just got to deal with it," he said. "It kind of tests your patience a little bit, that's all."

Veteran Landon Johnson will probably get the start if Levy can't play. The Lions are also using newly-acquired Spencer Havner at linebacker. Havner can also play tight end and fullback.

"(Coaches) always tell us that you're one play away from playing a different position or one play away from being a starter, so you always have to prepare that way," Johnson said.

Havner played linebacker, tight end, fullback and on special teams for the Packers this preseason.

"(The Lions) kind of said to get ready to help out at the middle linebacker position depending on how that goes (with Levy's injury)," Havner said.

"But after that, they said I'd get some multiple (snaps) on either side of the ball."
