DeAngelo Williams (1 Viewer)

Start him with confidence this week. After the first quarter of the season, DeAngelo always turns it around and starts to produce big numbers.

He already had a good week 4 game, and while his numbers in week 5 were disappointing, they will find a way to make sure he gets his numbers this week.

I rarely make predictions when it comes to Panthers players, but I feel strongly that DeAngelo is going to have a big game. Matt Moore runs a ball control offense much better than Clausen was able to (partly because he can handle the snap, which Clausen can't seem to do).

I predict a huge game of 120 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns.
Please PM me your home address so that if you're wrong, I can crap in a box and mail it to you.
And what will you send me when I'm right? I've been watching DeAngelo for years, and for some reason, I just have a feeling when he's going to have a big game. This is going to be one of them.
I hope to God you're right. What will I send you if you are? My undying respect and propers in this thread.
Pretty weak considering he gets a turd in a box if wrong.
Incorrect. I'm a very important person around here.

Stewart & Williams combined for the following the last two years:

2008

457 Carries

2351 Rushing Yards

28 Rushing TDs

2009

437 Carries

2250 Rushing Yards

17 Rushing TDs

This year, they are on pace for:

2010 (Pace)

338 Carries

1395 Rushing Yards

6.5 TDs

IMO, the biggest problem is that the 08 and 09 Panthers offense was able to support two statistically significant fantasy RBs. Even with a 60/40 spilt, we were looking at two RBs that could get you ~1100 yards and 8-10 TDs.

This year, the Panthers O is barely on pace to support a single significant fantasy RB. Most of us would probably take that projected 1400 yards and 6.5 TDs from a starter, but the workload split hasn't changed.

One of two things has to happen for either Stewart or Williams to be significant fantasy contributors this season.

1. The Panthers run game needs to start producing more; carries, yards and TDs. I don't expect this to happen based on what we have seen through week 5.

2. The workload split will need to change to significantly favor one player over the other. Without injury, I don't see this happening either.

Well, welcome me to your clique dynasty Deangelo owners! Just traded for the guy and waiting for the trade to go through. Had to give up LT and Bowe in a keeper format where we keep 6 at no cost. The former 2 weren't going to make the cut as keepers, so i think i did pretty well. Most of the people i talked to don't like the trade, but that's the whole point in buying incredible talent on the cheap. When they are cheap no one wants them!

Right now is the time to get Deangelo in dynasty formats. He can be had pretty cheap. And for all those assuming that he has done a horrible job, remember, this guy just turned 27 and barely has any mileage on those legs! Just a couple years of 200+ carries. Not to mention that in his "horrible" year so far, the guy is averaging almost 5 yards per carry. Not so bad is it? As long as a back is averaging 5 yards he is still elite in my book. The problem is with coaching, Deangelo should be getting 25 touches per game while JStew gets 20+ per game.

You can only buy low if someone's value is low. Deangelo's value is very low right now. He is the perfect buy low candidate, especially in dynasty formats but even in redraft.
The Panthers can't be averaging 60 plays a game with how bad they have been. That is 45+ carries you are wanting to send their way out of no more than 60 plays per game. There's a pretty decent chance, that even with you coaching the panthers, you would be playing from behind more times than not. It's just not a winning equation running more than 75% when you are getting blasted. I'm also pretty sure the opposition has a pretty good handle of the game plan when they see those two RB's and no Steve Smith either ... just stack the box and force you to throw to win. Although your way might appeal to the Deangelo and Stewart fantasy fans, you wouldn't last too long as the head coach.
The first problem is that you're assuming that there is no cause and effect relationship. The reason these RBs should be getting 45 touches per game (realize that i said TOUCHES not RUSHES, yet you assume all 45 touches are runs?? Wierd) is because it would be BETTER for their offense, thus allowing them to get more plays, extend drives, score, etc. You see, if you run plays which will generate better results, in the game of football, you get more plays to run. Secondly, you have a horrible QB with non-existent WRs. You also have 2 of the elite talents in the league at RB. It doesn't take a genious to figure out what your gameplan should be. The reason they are stacking the box is so you change your gameplan, what sense does it make to fall into their trap and do what they want you to do? Deangelo is averaging 4.7 yards per carry! That is a very good number. Over his career, his number is over 5 yards per carry, and with enough carries it should get back above that mark. But even if you assume it stays at 4.7, why wouldn't you run as much as possible? You say that they stack the box and don't allow them to run --then why isn't it showing up in the numbers? He is AVERAGING 4.7 yards per carry. If they are stacking the box and eliminating the run, then why is his average so high?

It is very simple, they should do what works. Running the ball works judging by the average they get per carry. Passing the ball on the other hand, hasn't worked. It is not about fantasy, it is about facts, it is about strength vs weakness, it is about having a game plan and sticking to it, instead of allowing your opponent to control what you do. That's how you win, and it really has nothing to do with fantasy football.

Ok, let's assume you are right. You, by definition then, would be taking no cause and affect relationship into your suggested scenario. You think just by giving them more carries, they will continue at the same pace or better? So if they ran more (and passed) to the extent you want their RB's to get (around 75% of all touches), and they continue to rip them off at 4.7 clip ... you don't think the effect in this scenario would be the defense adjusting at all? If so, why not give them 80%-90%, 100% of all touches? Obviously I'm exaggerating to prove a point. More does not always equal BETTER. There is going to be an adjustment, and it will happen sometime well before the 45th touch out of the backfield. And yes, Deangelo's career is 5.1 ypc, but those were on different teams with different supporting casts. FYI, Stewarts is 3.3 ypc this year, and he's a career 4.7 guy. The success this year you're highlighting just isn't translating into many 1st downs or TD's for this year with this cast. They are only averaging 3 rushing 1st downs a week (mix in a few screen passes to up that number a little), and it's still not good enough. Despite AVERAGING 4.7 ypc, Deangelo's only got 1 rush TD and 0 rec TD's.

It's not as simple as you think and by just increasing the number of touches, you've all the sudden got a winner. I don't want to take this on a tangent, and I'm not saying they don't deserve more touches. I just think I differ a little on the percentage of touches they should get, and the affect we think it will have.

No, he only gets one, either the respect turd or the you suck turd.
This. (The respect turd has corn in it. That's how you tell the difference.)EG, you should totally change the name of one of your fantasy teams to "The Respect Turds." That would get you mad, mad props from me(turd-in-a-box included).

I think I'm the only guy around here that is still starting DeAngelo over guys like Hillis. I just the upside is too great to ignore, plus he's known for slow starts.

Bust, stick a fork in him. Sell for whatever you can get. Seriously regretting not getting Braylon for him when I had the chance two weeks ago.
