Dear John Fox and John Elway (1 Viewer)

I think if Denver does release him, Jacksonville, Washington or Miami are likely landing spots.

I also think that unless he loses 4 of the next 5 games, the fans will lynch Elway for it.

From ESPN:

The Jets held the Broncos' rushing attack in check for the first 54:06 by countering with their base 3-4 defense and large substitute packages (32 of Denver's first 44 snaps came against a 3-4). The Broncos averaged 2.4 yards per carry (58 yards on 24 attempts) against the Jets' base defense during their first 11 drives. But the Jets strayed from that formula by putting an extra DB on the field for 11 of the Broncos' final 12 plays.

If this is true, then your OP appears to be completely off base, MOP.
why?the jets knew the power of Tebow, they feared it, they switched things up to try and stop it, it failed
His point was, what the Jets were doing was working. Putting an extra DB on the field against Tebow is insane - what, he's going to throw the ball to beat you? No, he's going to run that last play if he can. If Ryan had been paying attention he would have had a DE or OLB on the outside to contain. He didn't.Not saying Broncos spread can or can't survive but that drive was as much about the Jets ineptness as it was Tebow winning.

Also elway doesn't want tebow to fail. It's a marathon not a sprint. What if the rest of the season is Tebow playing badly? What if the offense falls apart? What if the defense (a HUGE reason Tebow is even IN a position to pull off miracle wins) collapses?

Elways not making a decision now. I think he could phrase it better but he's doing what a GM does-watching and compiling.

If tebow wins the rest of the way and Elway throws him under a bus the day after the season ends, then come talk to me. Otherwise you're making a tempest in a teapot.

I don't see him being released, he's the only QB under contract for next year on the roster. Depending on where they pick and who is available they might draft a QB they are going to have to find a couple of QBs from somewhere.

I think it would hard to release him also. But I can see a scenario where Elway brings in a veteran for next year and drafts two QBs round 3 or later to develop in the "Elway" model of a QB. If they plan on starting anyone else at QB, having Tebow on the roster will become a distraction to the team. It that sense, they will have to cut ties. Just look at what happened while Orton was QB. People are nuts for him.

Or they could just trade him to the Niners for pennies on the dollar. I think Harbaugh would love a QB with Tebow's work ethic, toughness, drive, and versatility.
Uh the niner just drafted Kaepernick who is very similar to Tebow in character, mechanics issues, quirky college offense... why would they want 2 of the same kinda guys?
Because drafting Kap shows the desire for that kind of player and Tebow is extra strength Kap.

I agree my hairy friend. No matter how tepid his support of Tebow is, there is no way Elway can get rid of him unless the rest of the season looks like that Detroit game.Elway would never live it down and be the next one out the door after death threats and showers of boos. He'd go from hero to persona-non-grata in Denver and all of his car dealerships would be firebombed. Not to mention the treatment his replacement would get. Can you imagine?Elway is all in on Tebow whether he likes it or not. That is assuming, of course, that the Broncos win 2 or more games over the rest of the season (which I think is more likely than not). The only way Elway can get his chips out of the pot is with losses. But any move that can be perceived as unsupportive of Tebow will be met with vociferous criticism so Elway can't sabotage the team even if he wanted to.In short, Elway is in a unenviable no-win situation...unless he wins with Tebow.I don't know if I've ever seen anything like this TeBohemoth.
I think he is actually buying in though. Tickets are being sold. The team is winning. Elway has extra draft picks for next year. He can wait until Tebow messes up and the other side of the aisle starts screaming for blood and about how bad Tebow is. Then he can be justified. Its all good for him if he just waits and plays his cards out.

I think you're right. When it comes down to it, the bottom line is money. It helps that Tebow is so marketable.

You know what is going to happen. Tebow is the new Roger Staubach, you never believe you are out of the game. This is like a snowball rolling down a hill, it's to big to stop now, just get out of the way.
