Touchdown There

From CBSsports after today's games:_________________________________________________________Yes, if you want to walk normally, this is the recovery time. Not if you want to play NFL football at the running back position. From your article: “All too frequently, return to athletics is rushed, the injury is not completely healed, and the athlete suffers with a chronic condition as a result,” says Dr. Ramin Modabber, MD, Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group.I have decided this will be my last warning post on Best. The Lions are 0-3. They have been one of the worst franchises in NFL history the last three years. Jahvid Best will lose his burst with this injury. If he does not heal it properly, it will stay with him the whole year or even get worse. I see the Lions regressing and Best getting hammered without his speed.Turf Toe

Best struggles with toe injury
Jahvid Best, RB DET
News: Lions RB Jahvid Best did not play well in Week 11 at Dallas, and he continues to struggle with his toe injury. Best was limited in practice all week prior to Sunday's game, and he had less work than reserve RB Maurice Morris against the Cowboys. Best finished the game with three carries for 2 yards and four catches for 15 yards. He had five targets. Morris, meanwhile, had 10 carries for 31 yards and four catches for 40 yards on six targets. Kevin Smith, the primary No. 2 RB for the Lions, is on injured reserve with a thumb injury. "Jahvid's been struggling with his toe since the Minnesota game, and it's been something that has, rather than progressively get better, it's progressively hampered him more and more," coach Jim Schwartz told mlive.com. Best started the season by scoring five touchdowns in his first two games but got injured in the third game and hasn't been in the end zone since. "It was definitely bothering me a little bit more this week. My role was definitely reduced,'' Best said of his turf toe injuries. "The left one and the right one, they take turns. Some days, I feel good. And some days, I just have a bad day.''
Analysis: Best could be in trouble heading into Week 12 against New England because of the short week with the game on Thanksgiving Day. Best is not worth starting in the majority of leagues, and you might consider adding Morris in case the Lions decide to limit Best's workload even further. Best should only be used as a potential starting option in PPR leagues, but he's not worth starting in the majority of standard formats.

I like Jahvid Best and think he is going to be really good next year. However, turf toe (aka Death Toe) absolutely destroys fantasy stats. Using Jahvid Best as an example, in a 1 ppr league he averaged 36 points over his first two games. He injured his toe in week 3. From week 3 to week 11 he averaged 9.5 points per game. It is pretty clear that turf toe is an injury NFL players are expected to play through. IMO, players who sustain death toe become unstartable for the rest of the year.
How much does turf toe reduce fantasy stats?
