Decision Confirmed: University of South Florida (1 Viewer)

I am glad Em has thought this thru thoroughly and ignored every piece of sound advice. And the part about not having a gambling problem but an alcohol and drug problem is great. I would feel bad for the up coming train wreck, but he has been warned by dozens of people, so now it is not ignorance but stupidity taking over.

 
I'm a big fan of FGCU (close to where I live) but you really should go to whichever school is cheaper when you factor tuition, housing, cost of transportation to school, etc.

Capella is spot on. USF St. Pete likely won't have 20% of the course offerings you want, even if you had a 100% flexible schedule. The commute from St. Pete to USF could be anywhere from 45 min - 2 hrs depending on time of day.

I went to USF, and even the Tampa campus lacks the college campus feel. The Tampa campus was designed post Kent State massacre, when they wanted to spread out the buildings. They have made incremental changes, but the campus is huge. Everyone drives and parking is like $130+ a semester & its difficult to find a spot within a half mile of a building (odds are not the one you have to go to).

It's pretty much the worst college experience you can have. There aren't really any "college bars" around USF. I just saw they are putting a World of Beer, but good luck to them succeeding on Fowler Ave. The mall is a crap hole & has mass vacancy. There used to be a bar north of campus called the Greenery, but I'm not sure if it's still there. Most of the college kids live a little north of Campus near Bearass & New Tampa. Peabody's was a popping bar a decade ago, but it's straight strip mall suburbia. Not quite "college town".

The football games are absolutely depressing. Depressing to watch on TV, go to, hell even driving by the tailgating students is depressing.

Bail now. I'd rather be a general wart on a college guys **** at FSU & UF than a USF Bull.

I went to USF 2001-2002 then went to FSU. I did some post grad at USF and it still sucked (2006ish). I drive by the Tampa campus almost everyday & it still looks the same. A commuter University sandwiched between hospitals, cancer centers, the ghetto, Busch Gardens, and Suburbia.

A couple of thoughts about option #3. First.. if you throw a lot of crazy ### parties, you're going to draw a lot of attention from the neighbors, who will direct police attention your way. Too much police attention will eventually draw the city's attention. If that place gets too run down and you make too much of a nuisance out of yourselves... and perhaps don't keep up with the property taxes... the city might just condemn that palace, throw your butts out on the street, then come in with a bulldozer to help you along with demolition before you rebuild something suitable. Then they probably send you a bill for the demo. In the end, your property goes up for auction for some developer. Or maybe the city auctions it before the demo... to some other dumb-### college kid who thinks it's a great idea to buy a place to throw crazy ### parties. Sold with real estate liens still attached, of course.... watch out for that too.

Yea my experience at fsu was a million times better than usf. The usf games were fun for a few years when they were relevant and playing WVU etc, but now they have home games against Rice or whomever and there are 5000 fans there and the logo is spray painted over the bucs logo at midfield. It's the worst. There might not even be 5000 fans there some games. Horrid.

 
I've been offered club seats to usf games at least a dozen times the last 5 years and haven't gone. I would never give up a CFB Saturday to watch them get pounded by Temple.

It's cool if you don't like sports or love crappy mid-major sports and pretty much want to live in a metro area with literally none of the charm of a college town? I guess? I don't hate that I went there but I was young and I did it out of convenience. Probably one of my biggest regrets was only spending 4 years of my life in a college town instead of 7.

And I went to Tampa which is WAY BETTER than the St. Pete campus.

At this point the only way to save this thread is to shift the focus from Em's University choice to Capella's Amazing Adventures with A Redhead Russian Accountant. If Capella has pics, this thread becomes an all time favorite.

Yeah, my son and I toured a bunch of different campuses and I was surprised he liked USF over Tallahassee(which I thought was damn impressive). I think he wanted to be in a big city over a college town.

Unless you're local, every freshman is required to live on campus now. We had looked at FGCU and FAU but he wanted the bigger school because he still is unsure of his major.

He's only been there a couple of weeks but seems happy. Maybe that's just getting away from the parents though.

 
BTW, what's the percentage of white people at USF? This could be decisive.

Oh and of those white people, how many of them like to be fingerblasted? (Men, women, makes no difference.)

Honestly kid, you need to completely rethink everything. Debt is the devil. I know this firsthand, unfortunately.

If I were you I'd move back in with your parents (it's not like you get laid anyways) and work your butt off for 2-3 years. I'm talking overtime if you can manage it, heck even add a 2nd/night job. Deliver pizza or chicken wings if you must. I did.

Stop wasting money at bars.

You need to completely eliminate your existing debt and have a nice bit of savings before you do anything else.

Otherwise you're just going to spin out of control and you'll be filing for bankruptcy within 5 years. Going to party at some random school is only going to make things worse.

I can't imagine this is some alias/schtick. If it is, it has to be the internet's biggest fishing trip.

Get your ish together, jack.

You clearly have never been to "crazy ### parties". You don't want to be the guy who owns the house that these are thrown at. When in college, my fraternity would always have a few guys at various rental houses, that never actually lived there, and we would use these as our party sites. 6-7 kegs floated was a common Friday night.

Those houses always got trashed. People grabbing kitchen knives and using the wall as dart boards. Fights breaking out with people thrown up against the wall, crashing through the dry wall. Couches always ended up getting covered in puke from some guy passing out and puking on himself. These couches always got burned, and we always had new couches. Seriously, no clue where all the couches came from but they had a knack for finding free, ####ty couches. Some guy decided to see how far he could throw an empty keg.. inside.. knocking out a lamp through a window.

You want to attend the crazy ### parties, and leave. Not live in the house they're at.. trust me on that..
