defensive scoring (1 Viewer)

Our league would like to incorporate scoring based on yardage allowed by a defense. We are not sure at what levels should be rewarded with points and at what level should be minus points.

I guess I need to find the average yards allowed and reward points at the average and below and minus points for yardage allowed above the average.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

This is what we use in one of my leagues

YDS - Yards Allowed

0 - 199 YDSs = 7 points

200 - 224 YDSs = 5 points

225 - 249 YDSs = 3 points

250 - 274 YDSs = 2 points

275 - 299 YDSs = 1 point

300 - 330 YDSs = 0 points

331 - 370 YDSs = -1 point

371 - 400 YDSs = -2 points

401+ YDSs = -3 points

Start an MFL league and play around with the scoring settings - then look at how teams would have finished with those rules / scoring system.

An alternative could be to add individual defensive players instead of team defense. In my opinion, it's fun to have to learn the other side of the ball.

Like I am not consumed by this hobby enough already................

IDP adds so much depth, will completely change your drafts. I love it.

My league scores defenses in the following way

-.02 PER PASSING YARD ALLOWED

-.05 PER RUSHING YARD ALLOWED

.01 PER YARD ON TD RETURNS (kickoffs)

.02 PER YARD ON INTERCEPTION, FUMBLE & PUNT RETURNS

.10 PER OPPONENT PUNT

.50 POINTS PER SACK

1 POINT PER TURNOVER FORCED

1 POINT PER BLOCKED PUNT OR EXTRA POINT

2 POINTS PER BLOCKED FIELD GOAL

2 POINTS PER SAFETY

8 POINTS FOR A SHUTOUT

4 POINTS FOR GIVING UP 1 to 3 POINTS

3 POINTS FOR GIVING UP 4 to 10 POINTS

1 POINT FOR GIVING UP 11 to 13 POINTS

0 POINTS FOR GIVING UP 14 POINTS OR MORE

6 POINTS FOR TD's (include kickoff and punt returns)

idp adds another aspect and i like more than team defense . it is still fun to have a few team defense leagues each year though imo .

if you want team defense i find it really lame how "standard" setups are . make it a valuable thing . imo team defense leagues are more fun when sacks and turnovers are scored 5 or 7 points each . points allowed make it valuable 5 - 30 . if your going to not go idp and go team def make it around 1/4 of the starter scorring .

And see where the D's rank amongst the RBs, QBs etc. Sometimes you'll find an oops and the top D will be scoring more than "a name" like Tomlinson. Do you want that? Adjust to fit

This is what we use in one of my leagues YDS - Yards Allowed0 - 199 YDSs = 7 points 200 - 224 YDSs = 5 points 225 - 249 YDSs = 3 points 250 - 274 YDSs = 2 points 275 - 299 YDSs = 1 point 300 - 330 YDSs = 0 points 331 - 370 YDSs = -1 point 371 - 400 YDSs = -2 points 401+ YDSs = -3 points
Not so uncommon here.I prefer a bigger window of no points and more reward for the 0-199 window. I do because if you're scoring sacks and INTs, some of those yards are just "eh" and I feel like if you watched the game and thought the D was nothing special, it should be scored as nothing special. The 0-199 window is the impressive one. I once had a team hold the other to 40-50 yards for the game. Can't recall who, been doing this a long time. Anyhow that's phenomenal and a dominating performance. The scoring should at least try to replicate your feelings watching the game. 10? 15? 20? points. It should be significant and it should also include a caveat "that won't happen again anytime soon" so we can give alot of points for that.I believe these feelings are what eventually made alot of leagues switch to more points for INTs returned for TDs and negative points for INTs. Not that long ago, most leagues did not have each of those scoring categories.
