Deion Branch (1 Viewer)

I think Holmgren is playing a little cat and mouse with the media here...he got a comfortable lead against a team that was having trouble moving the ball...especially after Caddy and Garcia exited the game.

There was no need to pass.
The thing is, though, that Holmgren LOVES to pass. He wants to have a big-time passing attack. It's a source of pride for him. And having traded Darrell Jackson away, he wants to prove that bringing in Branch and making him the No. 1 WR were both the right moves to make. Holmgren is a very good head coach in my opinion but he also has a tremendously huge ego. It will become a pride thing with him to make sure Branch puts up good numbers this season so he will start coming up with ways to get him the ball. Count on it.
sadly.... i am...based on much of the logic you present in the well thought out post above.

September 11, 2007, 12:30Seahawks :: WRHC Holmgren Take Blame For Branch's Goose EggClare Farnsworth, Seattle Post Intelligencer - [Full Article]Seattle HC Mike Holmgren sounded like a man breaking up with his significant other. "It's not him. It's me." Holmgren, however, was referring to the fact that WR Deion Branch has zero receptions last Sunday. "That can't happen. It shouldn't happen. It's our job to get him the ball," Holmgren said. "I must get him the ball. I don't want him to have games where he doesn't have a catch." QB Matt Hasselbeck said that Tampa Bay's coverage was rolling to Branch's side of the field, but Branch didn't seem to overly concerned. ""We can go a whole season and you'll never see me try to break down our team about getting a reception versus winning the game," Branch said.

As I posted a couple of times in this thread, I felt VERY confident Holmgren was going to make sure Branch was targeted early and often. He got his first target on the Seahawks' second offensive play and was targeted heavily throughout the game. Big game from Branch and I think we'll see a number of these as the season goes on. The No. 1 WR in a Holmgren offense will put up very nice numbers.

What did you expect from a WR that does not have a single year of 1000+ yards or 10 + TDs....and this was depsite having one of the best Qbs in the game (Brady) throwing to him
:football: :goodposting: :goodposting: Simply put, in 68 NFL games, Branch has a total of 18 TDs and averages 51 receiving yards a game. Averaged out over an entire 16-game season, that would give him 4 TDs and 816 yards. In other words, if you drafted this guy to be your number 1 or number 2 WR, you are in big trouble.
Deion Branch getting any looks? Any Branch news at all?
Yeah, he still isn't that good.
Every Patriots fans should be ecstatic over that trade. Branch has never been that good
Yeah, you're right. How dare I point out how overrated a guy is, who has never gone for 1,000 yards and never scored more than 5 TDs in a season, despite playing with two of the best QBs in the NFL his entire career. Silly me. As for having something better to do, it is the first Sunday of football, genius. Excuse the hell out of me for wanting to talk football in the game threads. :P
I have to agree with you, Branch is nothing more then an above average WR. Not even in the top 20 IMO. Pats got a steal here.... in comparison look what Welker did today and he was worth a 2nd round pick... key phrase is.. HE WAS WORTH IT, at least it looks that way right now.
Update? Haven't heard from you lately in the Seahawks game threads since Branch is a focal point of the offense. Amazing really. Looks like a nice first round pick.

I posted before and I'll post it again - the No. 1 WR in a Mike Holmgren offense is going to put up good and possibly great numbers as long as he's healthy. Branch is in a great spot to succeed this season and it's clear Week 1 was just a fluke. He looked great again today and is definitely on the same page with Hasselbeck.

You guys think he keeps it up or would he be a good "sell high" before hackett comes back?

He'll continue to put up good numbers. He's a talented WR in a great situation. I see no reason to worry about him as long as he's healthy.

Hackett won't cut in anymore than Burleson does.

Looking back, this game wasn't a reflection of Branch as much as it was a sign of things to come for the Tampa D.

Still worthy of that first round draft pick? :PI think it is time for you to fess up and admit that Branch isn't that good and that the Seahawks overpaid big time for him.
