Deion Branch (1 Viewer)

I am not talking in terms or WR 1 value.... But is he in a situatioin to catch 70 balls for 900 yards and 5 td's?

All the talk is on BMW, but Branch is the only proven WR on the roster and the staff likes him and are being loyal to him even through his up and downs due to the injury bug.

Branch is 31 (not old for a WR), he seems to have his quickness from what I watched in preseason and was targetted by Hass enough that it appears he will have a descent role in this offense.

What do you guys figure?

I suspect that he'll have some weeks where he'll be startable but I don't see him being too consistent this year. I view BMW as the major TD hog in the red zone because of his size and I don't think Deion will break many long ones so his TD potential is limited. I also suspect that by the second half of the season he'll start to get pushed for playing time by Deon Butler and Golden Tate who represent the future of the Seahawk passing game and the team will want to get them more involved when it's obvious that the season is a lost cause. I'm saying he'll get around 40-50 receptions with about 600-800 yards and 4-5 TDs.

he's a fading talent who was overrated at the height of his career, and has been slowed down by constant injuries. the 'hawks would love to see Butler mature and step into his role, and Golden Tate is going to get worked in as quickly as he can pick up the playbook (reports are that he's pretty slow on the uptake). Carlson is turning into a great alternative to a possession receiver. I don't see numbers like that out of Branch with that much competition for the ball.

Carlson's pre-season was pretty disappointing, he didn't seem that involved in the offence and wasn't targeted nearly as much as I thought he would have been. I've even heard reports in practice where he's not being targeted much. I love his talent but I'm starting to become worried that this will be another year like last year where he stayed back to block on the line too much and it hurt his receiving numbers. The loss of Okung only raises that fear. I don't think Branch has to worry too much about Carlson stealing from him. But I agree that Tate and Butler will be his main vultures. I don't see Branch as somebody people should be looking for in drafts, but as a WW pickup he could have some value.

haven't heard anything about Okung this week, but local radio said he was either going to be back for the opener or week 2. not seeing anything to the contrary. Carlson got 55 catches his rookie year and 51 last year. I'd expect a slight increase this year with a better line.

can someone tell me who the starters are with housh gone? who is likely to lead this team in stats. i have neglected the situation for the very same reasons I didnt draft any. Now, that housh is gone though, i am interested. thanks.

As it stands right now:1. Branch2. BMW3. Butler4. TateBMW is your best option, he's a good bet to lead the team in targets and red zone looks.

i dont think so.

although, in pinch, (bye week filler, injury, etc..) he might be barely startable.

he'll prolly get a hammy in week 2 and be a non-factor the rest of the year.

Probably not. In eight NFL seasons, he has only hit all three of those numbers once (all in 2005), so the odds of him hitting one of those plateaus again, much less in the same season, are not good. I am not saying he can't or he won't do it; I am just saying, he more than likely will not.

If the Seahawks get buried early, I would think we would see a lot of Butler and Tate and less of Branch in the second half.

Oh I agree, but he is now the number 1 WR entering week 1 on a team with a veteran QB that made Burlesson and Houhsy startable last year at time. The coaches seem to believe in him. If he gets off to a good start this season he could perhaps surprise.

What he said. Plus, odds are high imo that Branch will miss several games this season due to injury. If later in the season, he may not get his starting gig back.
