Boo-birds let Broncos know how they feel

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -New Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton didn't get the warm welcome he anticipated when he made his unofficial debut at Invesco Field on Thursday night.

Orton was booed by the crowd of 13,402 - the largest crowd ever to watch a Broncos practice - when he was picked off twice by free agent cornerback Andre' Goodman, the second of which was returned for a long touchdown.

Orton, who also was jeered when he threw behind wide receiver Chad Jackson, said afterward it was the crowd's prerogative to let the Broncos know how they felt.

Orton was acquired from Chicago in the offseason for Pro Bowl passer Jay Cutler.

The crowd also booed punter Brett Kern for a pair of poor punts and also let kicker Matt Prater have it for missing consecutive 43-yard field goal attempts at the end of the scrimmage.

MOP: I love the Denver fans for getting out there and letting this guy have it. Unfortunately, Kyle orton is in a very bad situation and will pay the brundt of ehis during the season.

:goodposting: I don't understand this. He might be the team's best option to win this year and he gets booed. Give the guy a chance to learn the plays/players first.

:goodposting: And if he was throwing behind Chad Jackson, there's at least as good a chance that Jackson ran the wrong route than there is that Orton made a poor throw.

He's not the best option when they're going to be playing from behind all year. He can't drive the team up and down the field like Cutler did, keeping them in games.

The defense last year is the worst unit I've seen in the last 10-15 years.

There once was a QB named Orton

Known for the neckbeard he's sportin'

Can't throw a deep pass, they get picked or hit grass

Soon the starting job may be abortin'

Sincerely,

Chris Simms

My apologies, I meant McDaniels which is why I said Orton will have to endure the worst part of it.Can FBG take Orton out of their top15 QBs? Enough already with this pipedream that Orton will be a startable QB this year.

the secondary should be much better though.

Orton is going to be a middle of the pack QB2 fantasy wise. denver will be in the top half of the NFL in offensive stats. 1 scrimmage 1 week into training camp doesn't a season make.

But weren't they booing Orton? Either way, I still don't think they should be jumping all over their new head coach.

Really? They look more like a rebuilding team day by day. They ran their franchise QB out of town, they had their WR1 kiss the owner and say good bye, yet he still is on the field when he isn't hurt. You really think Eddie Royal is as good with Orton under Center? The defense is a mess and while Goodman looked like a Pro Bowler tonight and terrorized Denver last year...Miami which is still rebuilding didn't even try to keep him. If you're a Denver fan, bst of luck to you, but I think we need to be realistic and Denver is nowhere close to good right now.

looks like lots of mop up duty to me, he could benefit from facing prevent defenses

Yes really, they have a top 5 offensive line, a really strong running game and 2 good wide receivers. Who is the WR who said goodbye mto the owner? Last I checked they still have Marshall and Royal on the roster, not to mention Brandon Stokely. Jabar Gafney and LaMont Jordan coming over from New England should help these guys learn Mickey D's system. I agree with you, they are rebuilding and won't have a very good record, but they are going to put up offensive stats. They will be trailing a lot, and last I checked, yards and scores in garbage time count just the same as any other time in my fantasy league. I'm not saying they are going to be tops in the league, but I stand by my original statement that they will be in the top half of the league in offensive stats. You as a Dolphin fan should know this better than anyone, look what Miami did after the 1-15 year. If Denver's defense can just improve a little bit, then they have a good chance of surprising a lot of downer debbies who are projecting doom and gloom for them. I don't expect a turnaround to the proportions of the Dolphins, but I could see them being a better overall team than they were last year, but it won't show in their record, because of the brutal schedule. All I am hoping for this season is for them to at least be competetive. If they go 4-12 and lose all 12 games by say 10 points or less, I will be happier than last season's 8-8 with all the blowouts.Edit: I just realized that you may not be a Dolphin fan, I just remember south Florida being mentioned in some of your posts, so Phins fan or not, you are at least in a position to follow the team..

Especially when that new head coach just came from your favorite team, right?
I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything... divisions and conferences aside, McDaniels's success (or lack thereof) no longer has any more bearing on the Patriots' fortunes than that of any of the other opposing 30 head coaches in the league. In fact, the Broncos have more or less gotten the better of the Pats over the past 10 years or so, so if anything, I'd be hoping he fails.Even before the whole Cutler fiasco, I was saying that I thought McDaniels should have stuck around in New England for another year or two before taking a head coaching job. I just think he had a lot going against him almost immediately in terms of not necessarily commanding the respect that a head coach needs to have from his players - being about the same age as his players, not having a whole lot of coaching experience, coming from a system where he worked with Belichick/Brady/Moss (and the possible perception that "anyone" could have succeeded in the role he had in New England), and of course, replacing Mike Shanahan.I wish McDaniels all the best, but I've maintained from the beginning that I've thought he left an ideal situation in New England a bit too early. All that being said, the Cutler situation happened... he's not coming back, and what's happened can't be "undone." McDaniels has not even coached one single game yet. If I'm a Bronco fan, I can either support the guy and hope for the best, or jump on his back immediately and makes things even more difficult for him. Agree or disagree with what he's done up to this point, it's certainly not going to help matters to get on his case before the season has even started.

Holy tangent, Batman! :lmao: I was just messing with ya, hence the  .

And regardless of how much leeway the fans should give the new head coach, many are not going to, and Orton is gonna take a lot of abuse, too, simply because he is the QB who replaced Jay Cutler. The Broncos schedule is a ##### this year, and I think they are going to have a tough time winning more than four or five games, so McDaniels and Orton had better get used to the idea of getting booed a lot at home. Like it or not, a lot of Broncos fans are pissed off.

They are looking at a high first round pick. Seattle thanks you for that!

Donkey fans are going to get what they deserve. Rebuilding without a franchise QB is not easy, and your bright coach just ran your best QB since John Elway out of town because he is stupid and egoistical. At least you will get a high draft pick next year to pick one of the young QBs coming out....oh wait never mind.

I hate the Boncos and live in CO....grew up a KC fan living in MO before moving to CO and will be a KC fan till I die....I loved seeing them let Shanny go...thought it was a terrible move....he was a great coach as much as I hated his ###...he always had our number...so that was awesome....then I thought he might go to the Chiefs....I loved the thought, even tho he was an ex Bronco.....then they got rid of Cutler....thank you , thank you, thank you.....when they drafted Cutler I was pissed because I thought KC was going to have to face him and Shanny for the next 10+ years......now it's like Christmas....I don't care what anybody says.....bad move by Bowlen letting this mess happen...now one of the top WR's in the league wants out of town....yeah boy!....and then the Broncos dont go defense with their first pick and trade up to get a TE in the 3rd that caught like 12 passes his senior year.......this is a trainwreck waiting to happen and I am sitting in my lawnchair on top of my rv like a redneck at NASCAR just waiting for it to happen....

seriously....I don't care who you are, but you lose a great coach...a franchise QB...your stud WR is just going through the motions...and your defense front 7 sucks balls.....have fun with that.....

Denver fans out here are just looking for an excuse to go nuts.....and the schedule this year for them is brutal.......

McDaniels is kind of a bad ### tho....he may noy let these guys settle for .500

The fans have no influence on the front office decisions. That is like saying that Bears fan deserved Cedric Benson.

Not true in some cities. I think the fans have a lot to do with certain moves. Bucs fans turned on Chucky and he is out of a job. I wouldn't say that fans have no influence on owners. Do the fans have a say in Cinci, Cle, Det...I would say no. Do fans have a say in places like Dallas, Pitt, and NY, I would say they do.

yeah way to get behind your new QB at his first practice because he threw a pic or 2. ;) Philly would be proud.

I would be pissed if I were a Bronco fan. I think most, if not all NFL fans would be pissed if there team traded Jay Cutler for Kyle Orton. One of the dumbest moves made by a NFL team that I can remember.

So what you are saying is that he is better than Jake Plummer. I think there could be an argument made that Cutler didn't accomplish any more than Plummer.

The point is he didn't need to be the teams best option. They had a much better option under contract but they decided to trade him.

not a :o , but a GREAT ONE!Orton will see 8-man fronts, he'll get the snot knocked out of him...Simms at least has an arm to throw the deep ball..

For all of those who think Moreno is going to be a top 7 RB ( a ridiculous pipe dream), get used to seeing the 8-man fronts and other run-stuffing defenses.. :lmao:

the McDaniels Experiment is goign to be the #1 rated comedy show this Fall.. :lmao:

Its worth it for a 26 year old pro bowl quarterback...after years of watching bears football, trust me, you do not take a quality qb for granted anymore.

I am not knocking the trade at all, just correcting a misconception. Being a Packer fan I hope this doesn't work out but I am not knocking the trade on either side.

In his first three seasons in the NFL, Cutler went 17-20 as a starter, with 54 TD passes and 37 INTs. In his first three seasons in the NFL, Plummer went 15-21 as a starter, with 41 TD passes and 59 INTs. He did win a playoff game in his second season, so he's got Cutler there.

Now, if someone wants to use the argument that Plummer is better, because Cutler was unable to do in his first three seasons what Plummer did in his 9th, make it to the AFC title game, well, then okay. ;)

So what you are saying is that he is better than Jake Plummer. I think there could be an argument made that Cutler didn't accomplish any more than Plummer.

:bag:
but we are talking about Plummer in Denver not Arizona. Cutler did not accomplish more in Denver than Plummer did, he accomplished less. HTHGo back and read the tread so you can catch up.

Uh, I read the thread. You are missing the point here, chief. The point is that it is unfair to expect a new NFL QB to immediately accomplish as much as a veteran QB. I mean, Joe Flacco already looks better than Trent Dilfer ever did in Baltimore, but do we have to say that Flacco needs to win a Super Bowl before we can say he is as good or better than Dilfer was in Baltimore?I think just about anyone who watches football knows that Cutler is the best QB the Broncos have had since Elway retired.

:goodposting: Yeah, they were great with Plummer and there is no way they could have been better with Cutler. You sure showed everyone in this thread with your well thought out and intelligent argument. :lmao:

you guys crack me up... Plummer was a bum
Not really. He was as close to a winner Denver has had at QB since Elway left. He didn't have an arm like Cutler but he was successful and made a Pro Bowl while in Denver. He helped beat the Pats when they were seemingly unbeatable in the playoffs and led the team to the AFC Championship game only to have his team reward him by trading up in the 1st to draft his successor a few months later. When Cutler set the Broncos' record for most passing yards in a season last year, it was Plummer's record he broke. Cutler may be the better QB, but that doesn't make Plummer a "bum" by any stretch. That aside, the news on Orton doesn't look great so far but we should probably keep in mind that it is still training camp and the defense is typically a little further along than the offense at this point. I'm hoping he pulls it together because just about everything I have read says Simms has been even worse this training camp.

I hate the Boncos and live in CO....grew up a KC fan living in MO before moving to CO and will be a KC fan till I die....I loved seeing them let Shanny go...thought it was a terrible move....he was a great coach as much as I hated his ###...he always had our number...so that was awesome....then I thought he might go to the Chiefs....I loved the thought, even tho he was an ex Bronco.....then they got rid of Cutler....thank you , thank you, thank you.....when they drafted Cutler I was pissed because I thought KC was going to have to face him and Shanny for the next 10+ years......now it's like Christmas....I don't care what anybody says.....bad move by Bowlen letting this mess happen...now one of the top WR's in the league wants out of town....yeah boy!....and then the Broncos dont go defense with their first pick and trade up to get a TE in the 3rd that caught like 12 passes his senior year.......this is a trainwreck waiting to happen and I am sitting in my lawnchair on top of my rv like a redneck at NASCAR just waiting for it to happen....seriously....I don't care who you are, but you lose a great coach...a franchise QB...your stud WR is just going through the motions...and your defense front 7 sucks balls.....have fun with that.....Denver fans out here are just looking for an excuse to go nuts.....and the schedule this year for them is brutal.......McDaniels is kind of a bad ### tho....he may noy let these guys settle for .500
You used ....... 26 times in that post. I'm just sayin.

Bum might have been too much, but Plummer was nothing special. I just understand the line of thinking where a QB who has a great running game and solid D is somehow better than a guy with more talent because the team won more games.

WOW, how many QB have there been? All I said is Plummer accomplished more than Culter. I never said who was better or who was a rookie. You can try to change the arguement all you want but I am not playing. Please try to keep up!

I am doing this from memory but I think Cutlers record is sub .500 and he never made the playoffs. I like the way you knock my arguement but present no arguement yourself.
