Denver TE - is Dreessen or Tamme the play (1 Viewer)

Again, i'm still waiting for your actual "input" and "analysis". You keep advocating well thought-out conversations but all I'm seeing from you is a bunch of "HAHA...nuh-uh, I'm right and you're wrong" one-liners. I can get that from the pre-schoolers.
Click on the link to the original discussion in my first post of this thread. There is a nice article I pasted in there which details Dreessen's ability in pass blocking (7th best TE in the NFL), run blocking (3rd best TE in the NFL), and pass catching (<3% drops, 12.4 ypr). Despite the stats, the author thought at the time that Tamme would still be the primary TE. But the point I got out of the article was that Dreessen was a superior talent to Tamme in every phase of the game, so I'm not the least bit surprised Dreessen is listed as the week 1 starter. Articles are a good source of information, but independent thinking is always a good idea.
Its real nice that you wondered into town here sheriff and volunteered to clean up the joint but there is a real danger in attention-seeking individuals that wonder into places trying to make the forums what they want it to be instead of just coming in and being a part of what it is. If you want to make a change, do it constructively; if you have something to offer, people will eventually see it and respond to it. And if you like what the forums are or becomes, then stay. And if you don't like it, then leave.

Unless you have another agenda, why WOULD a person join something that they basically use every post they post to state all its faults.

That type of behavior doesn't work in most relationships, real or virtual and I don't think it will work well here because I doubt most of us here are girls with daddy issues seeking an abusive relationship of some guy with a superiority complex.
I think you mean "wander".The value in the SP is in finding contrarian opinions. I prefer the spotlights. They are usually the most information dense threads. I like to read other people's takes on players as well as post mine - both to share my analysis and conclusions and to hear people possibly take another side and show me an angle I had not yet considered.

I think Reggie Wayne and Torrey Smith are two guys I wouldn't have drafted if not for reading some SP discussion on. We've all got guys in our blind spots and I use the SP as my parabolic mirror to see those blind spots. Unfortunately, the mirror is clouded with lots and lots of dust.
Nope..meant it exactly as written. Wonder-as a verb: Desire or be curious to know something. Thought it was fitting in this instance.
Hahahahaha! This is perfect. Everything makes so much sense now. If you are too stubborn to admit you screwed up when the error is obvious and impossible to deny, then OF COURSE no one can have a reasonable debate with you.Btw, you do you realize you used "wonder" instead of "wander" twice in that paragraph, right? It is an easily forgivable error, but stubbornly sticking to it and trying to pretend like you meant to do it... not making yourself look any smarter. You strike me as a fellow who really cares what people think about you on message boards so you might want to handle that differently in the future.

Next time you wonder about a player and wander onto one piece of information, please remember there might be some other information that might swing your opinion if you are willing to be open minded. That information might even come from a rude, elitist fantasy football ninja, but it's still good info.
Two things: I'm a writer. I don't spell everything correctly here all the time but that's because I'm usually working on something that I'm actually getting paid for when I post during the day so it's not that important to me. But, in this case, that word was as intended, as I explained it to you and gave definition. I can't help it if I explain something and you reason in your mind that because it is not your opinion that there is something else to it. But that kind of illustrates this whole "discussion", huh?

Speaking of illustrations: catch the game tonight? Kinda exactly how I said it would be, huh? Enjoy your season. Hope you learned something.

I found this article from 9/8/2012 in the Denver Post.

Broncos' Joel Dreessen preparing to serve as multi-tasker on offense

Today's question about the Broncos comes from Craig Levin in Overland Park, Kan. To submit a question for consideration, send an e-mail to The Denver Post's Jeff Legwold.

Q: What is Joel Dreessen's situation with the team? Is he the No. 1 tight end, or No. 2 tight end? How was he in preseason with Peyton Manning? Good chemistry?

A: Craig, Dreessen was one of the first players, after Peyton Manning, who the Broncos pursued on the offensive side of the ball in free agency. After signing Manning, they quickly moved to continue the makeover on offense with the idea they needed a two-tight end set that could threaten defenses all over the field.

So, they signed Dreessen and Jacob Tamme, and the two were immediately moved to the top of the depth chart at the position. They are essentially co-No. 1s, with each of them having a slightly different job description.

Most two-tight end schemes — and it figures to be the Broncos' primary offensive formation — feature a receiver type to go with a player who is more comfortable in an on-the-line position, a blocker/receiver hybrid.

In Tamme, the Broncos have a player they see primarily as a receiver. He will line up both in tight alongside the offensive tackles and line up wide or in the slot at others.

The blocker/receiver hybrid is Dreessen's position in the offense. Given Virgil Green's four-game suspension to open the season, it makes Dreessen one of the more important players in the offense.

Dreessen will have to be at his best in the non-catching part of his job for the Broncos to have the kind of running game they want. The Broncos coaches have been impressed with Green's progress as a blocker, especially down the stretch last season, which is why he got so much playing time.

But because of the suspension for violating the

league's policy on steroids and other performance enhancing substances, Green will not be available to the team until early October.

So, the Broncos will need a consistent player at the position in the run game. They will use tackle Chris Clark as an extra tight end at times when they want to beef up the front.

But Dreessen has to be the multi-task guy. He has consistently improved as a receiver as his career has progressed. So much so, he went from a guy out of football in 2006 to 26, 36 and 28 catches in his last three seasons with the Texans. Those totals included 10 touchdown catches combined in the last two seasons.

As a blocker, most personnel people in the league consider him more proficient on the move, in sort of a crack-back look where he comes down the line to pick off a defender in the middle of the field. The Broncos will certainly use him in that way.

Head up on a defender, he is certainly willing and is a tough player. But at 245 pounds, he's still undersized for that on-the-line role when compared to some of the 260- and 270-pounders who have it for other teams.

It's not as big an issue when the Broncos run out of a zone-run look, with the linemen all firing out in the same direction to wash the defenders out of the play. In that look, Dreessen can use his movement skills, and he has help to his inside shoulder as the blockers all move out together.

It's in the traditional one-on-one pass protections where Dreessen can sometimes can get pushed off his spot. But again, he's giving away 40 or 50 pounds to the defensive end or outside linebacker.

But as far as chemistry with Manning in the passing, Dreessen and Tamme both were among the first to click with the veteran quarterback, both on the field and off the field.

Because of that, both of them could have their best seasons in the months to come. They'll certainly have plenty of opportunities.
