Depth chart accuracy (1 Viewer)

I'm in a deep IDP league where pretty much all starting players are rostered. I've used OurLads' depth charts for a long time now, though I can't say I know how accurate their info is. They have a "last updated" timestamp that's always recent and changes frequently. Anyway, looking at their Raiders depth chart today, a couple names I'd never heard of jumped out at me as starters -- Kyu Blu Kelly at CB and Chris Smith at S. So I researched further and came across official depth charts from the team:
Aug 19
Aug 12

These depth charts have Kelly at 3rd string and Smith 2nd string. They're a lot more in line with what I was expecting.

Does anyone have any insight on these Raiders and/or the accuracy of OurLads' depth charts in general?

I have found that most depth charts in the pre-season (especially for defense) are not to be relied on. They usually have pretty bad information. I also think I remember reading at some point that the NFL depth charts are put out by marketing people in the front office and sometimes have no basis in reality as it's just someone putting something out there because they have to do it.

I always take them with a grain of salt and really try and get a few sources of corroboration to have any sort of reliance on them.

Yeah, the NFL and ESPN depth charts are usually pretty sketchy. I have had better luck with OurLads but even they aren't perfect...but better than most.

You’ve gotta do your own work and follow the pressers and the tea leaves. That should give you the lay of the land.

The problem is that you are almost assuredly looking at LBs, and you’re just not going to get many good answers aside from the subscription services or the more difficult-to-find YouTube channels that only deal with what you need in an ancillary way.

It’s become a sort of drain on the fantasy football fan’s time, much like running back has been for offense. The decisions seem more arbitrary and less predictable than other positions because so many decisions are being made based upon things not easily measured or observed.

RBs are judged a lot on their vision, durability, and hole recognition while LBs are about coverage, shedding blocks, and intangibles like anticipation that only coaches can tell from Adam when those skills are good. Coaches are looking at those things and they form those opinions in practices we are not privy to.

Hard to get stud linebackers these days.

Kelly has recently gotten run with the 1st team, but Stokes and Porter were the 1st team all camp. I can understand how that happened at Ourlads, but that feels like someone jumped the gun. I will say, Ourlads is showing they are paying attention, because this Kelly move up the depth chart is new news for sure.

The Chris Smith thing is bizarre. He was 4th S before Lonnie Johnson injury. Pola Mao and Chinn are locked in as starters. I'm not 100% certain he makes the team. He should, but not a lock

So... the FBG Week 3 preseason update had this to say: "In the secondary, Eric Stokes has one cornerback spot secured, and Kyu Blu Kelly has surged ahead of Darien Porter for the other starting role, with Darnay Holmes holding down the slot and Decamerion Richardson providing depth." 👀

Raiders Week 3 Preseason Update
The position is in flux, TBD who the nickel is or starter is opposite Stokes.

I would look elsewhere for a CB. too many locked in starters to be futzing around with this group

Its got to the point the only Raiders I will roster are Maxx or Chinn.
I think Devin White is worth a shot. Should be cheap to acquire and if he keeps the dot he could be great for IDP
I thought the same about Roberts 3 weeks ago. I just see a lot of fluidity here and I don't want to roster both. Thing is we all paid 0 for these guys but that is what they will score certain weeks when they aren't green dot. Im think I am going to avoid.

But we all know Roberts didn't have the skills to be a 3-down guy. Just not good in coverage. White, on the other hand, had the skills at some point. If he somehow got his mojo back it will be worth it. Best part is we should know in 2-3 weeks.

Man, like I said in another thread, my cupboard was bare so I held White through the offseason. I guess I have a hard time (I shouldn’t) imagining how you can be such a chucklehead you pee it all away. I’m really not an optimist about humans prone to violence (please punish them appropriately) but I am about guys with egos or with general clownishness. I generally think amiable souls who march to a different beat can turn it around. I don’t expect a full season from him, but he’s enough of an athlete where a roster spot won’t kill you. His upside is large,
