Derrek Lee (1B) v. Chris B. Young (OF) (1 Viewer)

Buckfast

I just took over the worst team in 5x5 10-player keeper league and have the first pick of the draft. The team I inherited is pretty terrible, and it looks like it might take a few years before I contend for a title. Both 1B and OF are positions of need.

Given those circumstances, I'm leaning towards taking Chris B. Young, (OF, ARI) over Derrek Lee (1B, CHC) with the first pick in the draft. Do you guys think that Young's upside and long-term potential justify taking him over Lee, who is is universally ranked higher but seems to be in the decline of his career?

i dont think he ever hit for avg in the minors. but still, young is the easy choice here.

If I remember correctly Young was about 270-80 hitter in the minors. I wouldn't expect more than that from him in the majors at his peak.

If you're a few years away from completing take Young, hands down. Lee is 33 now, you need somebody who is good now and coming into his prime in a couple years, not someone who was in his prime a few years ago, good now, and will be who knows where in a fews years when you're ready to compete.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the insight. I was pretty sure that I was going to go with Young, but it definitely helped to hear the same thoughts coming from you guys.
