Well, considering no matter what trash they put in at RB, they still have a top-10 rushing attack...Why would they pass up on a first or second round pick to get rid of a guy that's going to be on the bench in 3 weeks?so Carolina will go into battle this year with an untested rookie (Williams), a mediocre sub (Goings) and a couple of scrubs (Robertson, Shelton) . . . the comedy board is back . . .Local sports news is reporting that rumors are swirling that Carolina has initiated trade talks with the NY Jets regarding Deshaun Foster. Deangelo Williams is the most talented RB on the Carolina roster. Untested? Yes. Able to be a #1 back as a rookie. Yes.so Carolina will go into battle this year with an untested rookie (Williams)
I suggest you take a look back at what Goings was able to do when he had a chance to start as Carolina's #1 back two seasons ago. Goings is a solid backup, far from being a mediocre scrub.a mediocre sub (Goings)
He is a mediocre scrub. It's much more a testament to what Carolina was able to do with a 3rd-string fullback than what a 3rd-string fullback was able to do in Carolina.Even Brad Hoover almost had a 100 yd game.I suggest you take a look back at what Goings was able to do when he had a cjance to start as Carolina's #1 back two seasons ago. Sounds like the same argument that was made about Reuben Droughns' success in Denver. He is a mediocre scrub. It's much more a testament to what Carolina was able to do with a 3rd-string fullback than what a 3rd-string fullback was able to do in Carolina.
I agree w/ this- although Foster is very talanted. But the question should really be: Why NOT trade an injury prone back when you have an electric rookie and a solid backup? Also, why NOT trade him when you may get a good player in return to help with your SB push? I don't know who- but there must be a weakness that the Jets could help them with, regardless of their inferior roster.Deangelo Williams is the most talented RB on the Carolina roster. Untested? Yes. I dunno that it makes sense for the Panthers either. IMO they're capable of winning it all this year. I can't see them moving a likely starter for a pick. The future is now.Makes some sense for the Panthers, but not as much for the Jets. In their situation, I can't see them trading a valuable pick for a back who has proven to be so injury prone.
If Foster is traded (unlikely), it means the Williams shoots up 3 rounds in ADP.I hope every name from Tomlinson to Tonny Hollings gets mentioned ASAP so they run out of names and I don't have to keep seeing new ones surface every day.Whoever runs the ball for the Jets will end up with below average numbers in that offense, and it'll likely be some sort of RBBC. There is much more interest in this situation than it is worth.
Goings has been in Carolina since 2001. In that time, they threw big bucks at Stephen Davis, drafted two RBs in the second round (Foster and Shelton) and now another in the first. He's put up decent numbers when given the chance, but at some point I think we need to assume that the Panthers just don't view him as an NFL-calibre starter. There's probably a reason for that.Sounds like the same argument that was made about Reuben Droughns' success in Denver.Guppies are always behind the curve...and there's a lot of guppies on this board.
and, unlike Droughns, Goings is STILL a sub . . .what does that tell you??Sounds like the same argument that was made about Reuben Droughns' success in Denver. He is a mediocre scrub. It's much more a testament to what Carolina was able to do with a 3rd-string fullback than what a 3rd-string fullback was able to do in Carolina.Guppies are always behind the curve...and there's a lot of guppies on this board.
Which is why it's perfectly relevant to defend a half-season-wonder who vanished back to the abyss of RB purgatory after a decent '04 campaign?Because that makes a lot of sense.Sounds like the same argument that was made about Reuben Droughns' success in Denver. He is a mediocre scrub.

that's why they are funny . . .I laugh when I see all these Jones/Porter/Lelie/Brown/Foster/etc/etc trade rumors when there are very, very few NFL trades made involving these types of players after almost a month of training camps. Before somebody runs out and posts a list, yes, I know there are a few... McCardell, etc... but come on, this isn't MLB or the NBA. Trades like these just don't happen at this point.

This would cost the Panthers $4.5M towards the cap next season. Not really big enough to prevent a trade.
the deal included a $4.5M bonus which is gauranteed, and the panthers would be stuck paying. This would cost the Panthers $4.5M towards the cap next season. Not really big enough to prevent a trade. He signed what, a 3yr, $13M?He's making like $9M in the latter 2yrs, and he's making $1M base salary? That gives him about $3M bonuses....They'd save $500K according to my ballpark guesstimates. They certainly don't lose $4.5M....Actually, since he hasn't been paid yet for this season, it would only be the $1M minus whatever bonuses he's got, half of which would count next season.Unless there's a $10M signing bonus I missed somewhere...
