Desperation Play Thread (for Week 13) (1 Viewer)

QB - Kerry Collins (vs Jac)Collins is healthy enough to start, and maybe Moss will actually suit up this week. Add to that the fact that the Jags have given up 261 passing yards per week, and you have a decent desperation play . . .

RB - Maurice Morris (vs Chi)Picking up a decent desperation RB off the wire is tough, so we will go with Maurice Morris, who figures to get the workload over a hurt Best and Aaron Brown. Chicago is a tough run D (7th in DVOA at footballoutsiders.com) , but the key in getting a RB off the wire is to get one that will get carries. Morris fits the bill.

WR - Jordy Nelson (vs. SF)

It's tough to get a starting wide receiver off the wire, so grab a reserve that plays with an excellent quarterback. ESPN noted that GB used five wide sets several times last week - so those give Jordy the opportunity to see the field more. He has only scored once this season (last week), so hope for red zone looks again this week (he is a good target at 6-3, 217). Also, San Francisco is 27th in the league at giving up yardage to third and fourth receivers.

TE Billy Bajema (vs Ari)

the Rams reserve TE Bajema was a fantasy non factor until last week when he scored twice. Usually chasing last week's box score is a bad move, but with fellow TE Hoomanawanui out, look for Billy to keep getting looks. Also, rookie QB Bradford has been razor sharp lately, and Arizona's defense is on life support. Billy should have a decent game on Sunday.

Defense - Colts (vs Dal)

The Colts fantasy D has been disappointing this year to say the least, but they play better at home, and the DL figures to get past a shaky Cowboys OL and get to Kitna. We know that Kitna can throw interceptions with the best of them, and I see him throwing a couple tomorrow. The key to the Colts defense is if Manning, who has struggled as of late, can get the Colts on top early. That should be easy against a horrible Cowboys pass defense (29th in DVOA). Then, with a big lead, the Colts opponent goes to pass mode, and Mathis and Freeney go to work. Powers is a good corner, and he will look to get a pick off the pressure. Start the Colts defense with confidence.

Going with Derek Hagan. Desperation has set in with injuries plaguing some of my teams. 6 catches 75 yards, touchdown.

I went with players available in my league (20 roster spots and 12 teams) - Hagan was scooped up awhile ago after he was signed after Nicks and Smith went down . . .

Toby Gerhardt, depending on what the word is on Peterson? Buffalo's run D sure makes it so if AD is either limited or out. Anyone have an up to date word on Peterson's status?

Thanks to Harvin, VJ & Marshall being hurt I am rolling with Hartline & Obomanu @ WR today

Is Blair White playing today?

Jacoby Ford against a tough SD defense, in a league that rewards return yardage. I imagine he'll be returning a lot of kickoffs.

Collie is supposedly out, wo White is a good play - still it's not a desperation play, as I assume that most competent leagues have a team where White is rostered . . .

Depends on how deep the benches are. I just picked him up and will start him if Collie doesn't go. Conflicting reports on that though.

true, and this is partly my fault - most waiver wire threads center on small leagues with shallow leagues - I am doing my best to have a thread based on free agents in larger, deeper leagues . . .

The only RB mentioned in this thread (MoMo) had been rostered for weeks in one league, been scouring news reports and inactives tryining to find a "RB2" opportunity situation better than Beanie or Hart. YAY INJURIES!!! Would love to hear some options if anybody has identified them.

Bernard Berrian. Buffalo has the #10 pass defense but that's only because it's so easy to run on them. With Adrian Peterson banged up, look for Favre to take advantage with a bunch of garbage yards to Berrian and Rice.

edit: they play Buffalo this week and New York next week. I still think Berrian is a good play, though.

Bernard Berrian. Only owned in 19% of leagues. Yes he is playing the Giants but that just means that the Vikings will be down early and Favre will have to chuck it up a lot. I figure he'll get at least 60 yards just in 4th quarter garbage time.
Percy inactive too this week

Percy Harvin : Rice could fill Z-receiver role 12/5/2010 11:42 AM

THE NEWS

Since returning from his hip injury, WR Sidney Rice has been playing out of position at the X slot. Now that Percy Harvin's out, Rice may be utilized in the at Z slot more today against Buffalo, according to Tom Pelissero's twitter page.

OUR VIEW

This is a significant development, as Rice posted 83 receptions for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns last year, while filling the Z-receiver role. Of course, QB Brett Favre will have to cut down the turnovers that have plagued him this season, for Rice to make an impact.

For those that are really, really, desperate and still can make the playoffs, I offer up James Starks. As an owner of Gore and Javid Bust, I am stashing him in the hopes of him producing something within the next 2 weeks.

I don't think Gerhart/Woodhead/Mo Morris is going to cut it for me.

Picking him up shortly, as I still have one of the better records in the league, and he is supposed to see some action today. If he does anything, he could supplant B Jackson and I would be near last in waivers.

:loadsgunpointstohead:

ETA: Sorry, this ISN'T for week 13.
